Who thinks there should be a wrestling channel? I feel that they should set up a channel where wrestling is on 24/7. This idea has sprung up many times without that much discussion (maybe I'm wrong)... but I think there should seriously be one.
It's the 21st century, do you think by now that they would have a channel like that? Uh... yeah.... I think they should have it.
It will be a channel for all wrestling fans and can you imagine the ratings?? It would be through the roof... think about it! There's millions of wrestling fans worldwide and millions would tune in.
Then... they should have a classic wrestling channel. They got ESPN classic, don't they? Yeah... they should have a classic wrestling channel too.
I really think this should be addressed to whoever makes channels possible.

Whoa, whoa. Let's start with ONE wrestling channel before we put two on. I think they have one in the United Kingdom. I think it would pretty much have to be owned or run by WWE, considering they own a great deal of footage that would probably be used.
To say the ratings would be "through the roof" may be a bit of a stretch, too. At first, you can bet alot of cable companies would hesitate at putting it on their lineup.
Considering WWE has all the footage of WWF, WWE, ECW, SMW, AWA, NWA, and WCW, I dont why there couldnt be a channel for it. I mean, I'd love to see classic WWF Superstars or ECW shows. They could even air classic PPVs every week. I just dont think they would get enough sponsors and viewers for it. Although, if they can have a GOLF channel, I dont see why a wrestling channel cant be out there, esp on DirecTV or digital cable.
One problem is copyrights and restrictions on certain footage (i.e. songs, commentators, etc...) A minor thing, but something that needs to be addressed.
Secondly, I don't think a channel based around past wrestling will really help fix the problems of today's wrestling...meaning, let WWF fix the ratings problem and attendance woes (storylines & wrestling itself), and then look to branch onto further things...
Third, isn't that a bit too much wrestling on air weekly? It can be filled with various things but still...
It would be great if they had it, but let them fix the current problems, then go to the past...
Besides, I feel depressed everytime I see something great from past and compare it to today...what a difference...

When you watch the Golf channel, it becomes obvious how the channel stays afloat. 90% of the non-golf advertising (and most of the golf advertising as well) is targetted at people with tens of thousands of dollars to blow.

Does Classic Sports have to pay these royalties? No really, I'm asking. Despite our wrestling bias I am sure we could all name about 20 "ALL WHATEVER" channels that would seem less profitable. As far as being depressed over thje state of things today vs. the past, I have to again make the Classic Sports comparision. I mean, watching the Celtics and the Lakers today sure ain't what it used to be either. In fact, Classic Sports used to show really old wrestling shows probably for the sole reason that they didn't have the rights to anything more recent.
Once in a while I might want to OD on wrestling, and then I'd watch the All Wrestling channel. Other weeks I might watch the All Classic Literature channel or the All Faux Painted Wall Finishes channel. But I don't think my cable provider would put any of those on the basic plan, and I wouldn't pay extra for them.
Really, the problem with a wrestling network is that putting it up would be prohibitively expensive. It takes a lot of money to get a new network going, and I don't think they could raise the capital, especially the way business is right now. If they had a classic wrestling show, I think it would do pretty good numbers, but I can't see a network pulling in high enough numbers for each show.

Yeah... unfortunately, you're right! :(

It makes more sense for WWE to just deliver the classic footage piecemeal on DVD where they can make more money without the overheads of a whole channel.
