I'm surprised that Chuck Knoblauch didn't land on someone's bargain basement/free agent/scrap heap list last year. The guy can still run, and hit sort of. I don't think he called it a career, but then again I didn't see him on any minor league or off shoot league rosters either.

John Burkett, Raul Mondesi, Greg Maddux, Ugie Urbina, Fred McGriff, Pedro Astacio, and Andres Galarraga are the "name" players still out there.

Who would have ever thought the day would come when Jose 0-4man (or Offerman, take your pick) would be signed before Greg Maddux. And ever scarier, by a team that plays on turf.

Every day that Maddux goes unsigned is one step closer to delusion for me. I don't want to think we could get him (because no one says we will) but man, if we could get him.

This must be how drug addicts think.

Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.

When John Burkett is one of the "name" free agents left, something has gone horribly wrong.

Oh, and McGriff's signed a minor-league deal with the Devil Rays, according to Lee Sinins.

Eh, he's gotten double-digit wins the past four years, that's gotta count for something.

I think Maddux is going to REMAIN unsigned for a long time until Boras lowers the salary demand.

Facing facts, Maddux is 38. The type of contract Boras is seeking is completely irrational for someone of Maddux's age, ESPECIALLY considering the freefall Maddux has suffered the past couple of years. I remember wanting his head on a stick after he gave up about 8 runs for the 5th time last season, speaking as a non-objective Braves fan.

He doesn't seem to be the type of guys to make his salary count in other ways... He doesn't strike me as a leader, which is a real shame considering the type of player he is.

Boras should bite the bullet, and go 2 years for aprox. 6-7 mil per season, which is all Maddux can REALLY ask for anyway.

Cross Mulholland and Owens off the list, as they were signed to minor-league contracts today by the M's.

I was hoping the Marlins would maybe get Mulholland or another lefty to strengthen the pen.

From what I have heard, the Pirates were interested in Mondesi

If Travis Lee got into the right ballpark and got the right hitting coach, he could be a good 1st basemen

Is it just me, or is Mullholland going to be a modern day Orosco?

I though that Burkett had retired.

Cross him off the list, too; Yanks signed him. Minor league deal, I believe.

Edit: And John Burkett has announced his retirement, presumably to join the world of competitive bowling.

It's Travis Lee who went to the Yankees, right? Pirates are expected to announce Mondesi's signing this week. Along with the return of "Mr. Sausage" Randal Simon. I'd say the over/under on a Pittsbrugh sportswriter penning a Mondesi/Clemente comparison column is 2 weeks.

Travis Lee is still a Devil Ray. The Yanks signed Tony Clark to back-up Giambi

Tony Clark may get the loudest CHEERS of any Yankee at Fenway, just because he's not playing for the Sox anymore.
