I would've agreed with you until tonight. He got no reaction during his promo (smattering of boos, actually) and then the crowd just didn't give a shit post the superkick.

Oh COME ON. The reaction during HBK's promo was mixed becuase they audience likes HBK, but they don't like what he was trying to do. They then booed the shit out of HBK after he kicked Benoit, meaning two things:

a) They care about HBK - not caring=no crowd reaction. When you get booed out of the building you are still over, just in a different way.

b) Benoit is OVER. (The boos before the kick where because the audience knew HBK was gonna try to steal Benoit's spot at WM.) If you can turn HBK heel you are OVER as a face.

I swear some people must watch these shows with cotton jammed in their ears.

And to Asteroid - dude, if you couldn't find one single thing to enjoy about this show, then I agree - you should just pack it in.

This was one of the greatest Raws ever, and a defining moment in the career of Chris Benoit.

I liked RAW. Benoit/Flair did a good job. And the IC Title match gets the main event again, Good Job! Too bad for Matt Hardy having to lose again but I am happy Y2J picks up a win. But I have a few things I did not like.

*When Kane could not get his pyro to go off, J.R. kept talking about his "pyro" not working instead of trying to pass it off a "Taker-phenom" stuff.

*Maybe its just me but whenever Austin comes it to me it kills what is going on already. Sure it started a Goldy/Austin feud, but I just tend to walk away.

*I found it funny when Jim Ross was talking about Randy Orton, after he beat down Foley, Ross said "I know I am supposed to be biased.." since when? You tend to cheer for faces for than the fans do.

*I was hoping Orton would lose the IC Title (not that I don't like it on him) but it looks like it might be Orton vs Foley at WMXX, and that really makes the title go to waste cause Foley won't win it, I think.

Asteroidboy's smarky temper tantrum is just hilarious, considering that one lost smark is two gained marks. You see, two friends of mine who'd stopped watching wrestling in the 90s I got to see the Rumble. You know their reaction?

"Goldberg's a ****'n monster, if it wasn't for Brock that Rumble was his."

"Orton's such a slick bad-ass, no wonder he's got the IC belt."

It's funny that these two wrestlers that smarks seem to state have no "work rate" and no "personality", got two older fans re-interested in watching again. Each and every RAW since the Rumble, my cell phone's been rung during the show and it's been nothing but "Dude!!! Did you see (insert RAW moment here) just now??!?" Odd how the WWE is satisfying non-Internet fans, isn't it?

You guys have to get past your mindsets and actually sit back to relax and enjoy the show. Orton's facial expressions are priceless, his selling is almost on Mr. Perfect levels, and he had a better moveset tonight than Benoit did. The guy has talent, you just block it from your mind, you think he is worthless because he's "Triple H's boy". How sad and close-minded of you supposedly enlightened people.

RAW was fantastic tonight, in fact the RAWs since the Rumble have been the best in a while. That said, HBK has no business in the main event. I'm a supporter of the guy, hell the Emagine theatre I saw the Rumble at loved him. But he did get Boo's for that superkick, when he was getting popped like a madman just last week. This is a bad move on the WWE's part if they go through with it.

BoromirMark I agree with you 100 percent. I know a lot of old fans just getting back into RAW again. Notice I said RAW, they are fans of RAW but not Smackdown. And everyone of them loves Orton, Goldberg, and HBK. They like Benoit but wont shell out money on him. Im sorry but I still dont feel Benoit would make a good world champ, Gurrero on the other hand is ready for the world title.

There are too many bitchy smarks on this board, they should call it "The Whinerboard".

I don't see any reason for Orton to have any gold if he's working this big angle with Foley that already has huge PPV potential. Orton's got so much heat right now, and Foley is God in the crowd's eyes. Orton/Foley in anything right now is a sure bet. The angle is working and the audience wants more of it. The gold on Orton is totally extraneous. Meanwhile, that IC title could be a great ticket for RVD or Booker T, or any of the other under-used talents.

So sayeth Randy Stilton.

I read your post and your reaction to the show was exactly what was designed. For you to be so pissed off at the heels that you want to see them get theirs in the end. Isn't that what wrestling is all about?

Good show. But one thing puzzles me, Foley brought up Orton's AWOL thing and acted like it was a shock for everyone, but didn't they talk about it on WWE Confidental? Maybe WWE doesn't watch other WWE programs. I am thinking next week with HBK vs Benoit, we will also see Foley/Booker/RVD vs Batistia/Orton/Flair.

I wonder why no one has brought up that Benoit has had a couple world title shots in the past against The Rock.

It was a great show, IMO. Other than Booker getting jobbed yet again (props to him for being a team playa though) and no payoff on the Jackie/Stacey bit.

All the Smarks are talking about how evil HHH and HBK are for having inserted HBK into the main, but what if Benoit goes over them both? THEN what are you all going to say?

Well...

I know I was vehement about this in an earlier post, but if Benoit wins the WrestleMania XX main event and takes home the World Title (with or without Michaels in the match) then I'm cool. But inserting Michaels into the main event (and theoretically, that's what they're doing) seems to me like a contrived excuse to screw Benoit... again. Hell, they might even have a #1 contender's match on some future RAW between Michaels and Benoit, in which Michaels gets the win, and Benoit's gone from being in the main event at WrestleMania XX to being on the outside looking in. If they do that, then I repeat my earlier comment... Fuck them with a capital F.

I'd like to see Michaels get his comeuppance, and then have Benoit defeat Triple H at WrestleMania. WWE wants to prove they're serious about pushing Benoit, fine. But they've dicked around with Benoit fans for so long that you have to admit, it's hard not to get a little cynical.

Remember the two times Benoit won the WWF Title, only to have it immediately stripped from him? Remember Benoit's last feud for the WWF Title against Austin, in which he got hurt? (I'm not blaming the Fed for that, but man... I seriously thought that was Benoit's best chance right there). Or how about the aborted feud with Brock Lesnar on SmackDown? I know Brock wouldn't have any problem putting Benoit over, judging by how he tapped out the Crippler Crossface. And remember when Benoit won the WCW Title on his last appearance on WCW television? Benoit had finally done the unthinkable, but we never got to see him wear the belt.

Now Benoit's reward is a feud with a guy (two guys, now) who are famous for not putting people over. How the hell long did Triple H's second title reign last, anyway? And how many times, back in the day, did Shawn Michaels go AWOL on the WWF because he didn't want to job his Intercontinental Title to someone?

And don't forget the WrestleMania X-8 main event between Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Oh, yeah, some guy named Chris Jericho also played a minor role in that match, too.

With history like that, can you blame a Benoit fan for being a little uneasy?

I'm sticking with watching, though, hoping WWE gives Benoit the title. If they do, I'll more than likely buy the DVD (I've already pre-ordered the Royal Rumble). But right now I'm kinda leaning towards not ordering WrestleMania, even though I was going to before.

Coming from a person who first saw Chris Benoit wrestle in 1989 in Dawson Creek, BC against Johnny Smith (ohhh namedropping), JUST BE GLAD HE'S IN THE MATCH! He could easily be wrestling A-Train knowing Vince.

If you expect Vince McMahon to give Chris Benoit the ball, especially on Triple H's show, you've lost your ever loving mind.

If Chris Benoit gets a token run on top, I'm all for it. He'll mean that much more when he's prepping Randy Orton or whoever they want to get to the next level in the Summer.

All I want for Chris Benoit is all he's ever really wanted, ring time and quality opponents. A WrestleMania Main Event and a possible token title run including a PPV Main Event in his hometown is just icing on the cake for a career well done...

Now excuse me while I go wet my smark bed in anticipation of Chris Benoit versus Shawn Michaels next Monday.

Don't get me wrong, pretty much all of RAW worked for me. The way the Shawn thing was booked at least makes the situation intriguing. I was just pointing out that although HBK was the top face for a while now, the crowd went wildly apathetic for him the entire time he was in the ring. Overall good show, Foley/Orton is getting a great buildup and saving UT's return for Wrestlemania is a masterstroke for crowd pops.

But that was because of the confusion of the situation and his status in the angle, not because of HBK himself.

I get so tired of these empty threats from people "fed up w/ the fed" who continually piss and moan about new guys not getting pushed, put into the title picture etc., and finally when they start to show sighns of growing some new stars (Orton, Bautista) the same people cry cause "there guys arent pushed.Well plain and simple, to the average joe tuning in, Benoit is BOOOOOORRRING. Its always "oh poor Chris Benoit, fuck HHH and HBK and Austin NOONE LIKES THEM!!! I mean obviously these guys have absolutely NO charisma or talent, or heat for that matter, right? They must have all the "stroke" in the back, cause WE all know what goes on behind the scenes right? I mean why should Benoit, someone w/ zero cred w/ marks (the bulk of the wrestling audience) and zero charisma be pushed as Champ. Because he's a really good "technical" wrestler? Personalities put asses in the seats my friend and they get people to tune in, not 25-30 minute matches w/ 1,000 knife edge chops and at least a dozen Germans, it gets tired after awhile. I appreciate the job that the Benoit's and Gurerro's of the world do, but they are always gonna take backseat to guys who can string a decent sentence together....A good example of what Benoit could be if he had a personality: Kurt Angle

oh and before I forget, cause this one REALLY gets me....

*Maybe its just me but whenever Austin comes it to me it kills what is going on already. Sure it started a Goldy/Austin feud, but I just tend to walk away.

-WOW, you are SO right, the crowd absolutely sat on its hands when Austin came out, sure killed that whole thing for Goldberg there "DAMN YOU STEVE AUSTIN!!!!". Don't you get it? Austin is GOLD. Whether he's a freaking non- wrestler getting over other guys is absolutely irrelivent, the man gets the crowd to RESPOND, and because Goldberg isnt exactly gifted w/ mic skills, Austin gave him a way to do his whole snort/spit/snort/yournext routine without having to look like a total dumbass on the mic, plus, whether its widely accepted by the IWC or not, this may have been the begining of a matchup between Vince and Austin at WMXX, and I could give a crap about whether theyre active or not,or if we've been there, done that, they are the two most signifigant figures in WWF/E history (save for Rocky and The Hulksta') and they should have one last go, because this is Wrestlemania 20 and it ain't gonna happen again. If you walked away Xpac, you missed a HUGE pop for a man that is, in any capacity the single most over guy on either roster, and from an entertainment aspect and a business aspect, thats what's best for the fed, so I really feel for you if you leave when the glass shatters.

anyways, "I" loved RAW, and thought it had that road to Wrestlemania vibe to it, continued storylines well, and added a few twists, and anytime I get to see Trish Stratus on my TV I'm good to go.. so, that being said and all.....
I CAN"T WAIT TILL RAW NEXT WEEK, I HOPE HHH SQUASHES BENOIT AT WRESTLEMANIA AND I HOPE TO BE "ENTERTAINED" LIKE NEVER BEFORE WHILE I WATCH WRESTLEMANIA 20, hopefully I can find a few marks to ENJOY it w/.

I'll say this, this is the most interested I've EVER been in Chris Benoit. You have Triple H, the heel champion, looking to squirm his way out of any sort of match that has him at the disadvantage, you have Chris Benoit, the straight face that just once wants to taste WWE World Title gold, and you have Shawn Michaels, the tweener whose actions you can respect because he wants the title and he wants to fight Triple H, but you hate him because he's trying to do it at the expense of Chris Benoit who "got there first" as it were. The Triple Threat is to Hunter's advantage in this case because two strong opponents (HBK and Benoit) cancel each other out because they're fighting over who should be the rightful #1 Contender (Benoit who is in via being the winner of the Royal Rumble or Michaels who was the #1 Contender before Benoit arrived due to two consecutive draws v. Triple H, and who has resorted to trickery to put his bid above Benoit's).

All in all, I'd say this was an extremely well booked few weeks to run at at a three way match. One I'm looking forward to far more than I ever would have if it were just Benoit/Hunter because both guys are so bland. At least having Shawn in the mix makes the dynamic a bit more fluid (and makes potential post Mania feuds much more open and interesting).

No offense King Slender, but you come across as if everything you've expressed is an original concept. If you've read around the boards you should see that 'anti-smarking' is about as done to death as 'smarking'(in other words, there are plenty who agree with your sentiments), this thread included. Since you're a bit new though I'll cut you slack.

There's nothing wrong with not being entertained by someone who might be popular with mark crowds.

"oh poor Chris Benoit, fuck HHH and HBK and Austin NOONE LIKES THEM!!! I mean obviously these guys have absolutely NO charisma or talent, or heat for that matter, right?"

I don't think ANYONE has or would conclude that HBK and Austin or even HHH possess no charisma or talent. That's just bordering on delusion.

"I appreciate the job that the Benoit's and Gurerro's of the world do, but they are always gonna take backseat to guys who can string a decent sentence together"

You seem to have implied that Eddie Guerrero isn't capable of cutting a promo. That IS delusion.

I would have to say this RAW was one of the better showings in the last 2 years. Having Top tier guys mixed with a good crop of future stars, seems to be finally working.

RAW was very good tonight, they are really building nicely to Wrestlemania. I think they are doing a real good job with Benoit too, letting everyone else talk around him while he just stands there looking tough and focused, getting a few meaningful words in at the end. It hides his lack of mic skills without making him look weak. And it's working! I was in KB Toys this weekend, and there was a kid with two different Chris Benoit action figures, going back and forth, back and forth, debating which one he was going to buy. Hell, if you can get someone to buy a wrestling doll, you must be doing something right.
