I don't get PWI as much as I used to but I still get it once a year atleast to see who wins their year end awards. (* equals My comments)
Rookie of the Year Winner: Zach Gowen 32% 2nd--Sylvian Grenier 17%... 3rd--Trinity 14%... 4th--Matt Morgan 9%
*Grenier gets it over Dupree?
Inspirational Wrestler of the Year Winner: Zach Gowen 33% 2nd--Kurt Angle 30%... 3rd--AJ Styles 15%... 4th--Rey Mysterio Jr. 12%
*Zach is cleaning up. Hard to vote against a one legged kid.
Most Improved Wrestler of the Year Winner: John Cena 32% 2nd--Matt Hardy 19%... 3rd--Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas 16%... 4th--Victoria 11%
*This one is actually pretty much right on the money. Cena made himself a real star. Worlds Greatest Tagteam came into their own identity and Victoria developed herself into a very cool female superstar. And yes even though Matt's not my favorite his Mattitude took off in 2003 in Smackdown.
Comeback of the Year Winner: Kurt Angle 22% 2nd--Goldberg 16%... 3rd--Raven 13%... 4th--Ultimo Dragon 11%
*First three I can see the point, Ultimo hmmm dont' know about that unless you talk about coming back from a horrible surgary.
Woman of the Year Winner: Trish Stratus 36% 2nd--Stephanie McMahon 29%... 3rd--Victoria 11%... 4th--Torrie Wilson 10%
*For me one and two has to be Trish and Victoria. I'd give Trish the slight edge simply for a bit more star power and storyline overness. Molly late 2003 should put her up there. Don't know how any Smackdown women gets on the list.
Feud of the Year Winner: Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar 36% 2nd--Hulk Hogan vs. Vince McMahon 19%... 3rd--Steve Austin vs. Eric Bischoff 12%... 4th--Jeff Jarrett vs. Raven 10%
*The winner is a good choice but 2nd and 3rd is crappy non wrestlers feud which might show the problem with the WWE as that's their most famous feud.
Most Popular Wrestler of the Year Winner: Kurt Angle 24% 2nd--Steve Austin 18%... 3rd--Rob Van Dam 16%... 4th--Rey Mysterio Jr. 8%
*Seems like people still love RVD no matter what
Most Hated Wrestler of the Year Winner: Triple H 41% 2nd--Kane 19%... 3rd--Vince McMahon 17%... 4th--Test 8%
*Test? I thought everyone was indifferent to him
Match of the Year Winner: Lesnar vs. Angle (Smackdown Iron Man Match) 26% 2nd--Benoit vs. Angle (Royal Rumble) 23%... 3rd--Lesnar vs. Angle (WrestleMania X9) 17%... 4th--Michaels vs. Jericho (WrestleMania X9) 12%
*Kurt Angle taking the top three spots. Yup he's the one who's that damn good. I like HBK/Y2J, glad it made it. That's my personal favorite match of the year.
Tag Team of the Year Winner: Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin 31% 2nd--America's Most Wanted 19%... 3rd--The Dudley Boyz 16%...4th--Los Guerreros 13%
*How bad is WWE tag division when a non-WWE team gets second place. Guerreros should be higher but I think Chavo injury had a effect in their placing.
Wrestler of the Year Winner: Kurt Angle 34% 2nd--Brock Lesnar 30%... 3rd--Triple H 18%... 4th-AJ Styles 9%
*Of course Angle is PWI wrestler of the year, he won a total of 5 awards. He's the man.

I think the Raven-Jarrett/ Jarrett-Styles fueds belong in fueds of the year. Dupree isnt a rook either, hes been around for like 6 yrs. I'd have to give tag team to AMW then Triple X and then WGTT.

Okay, I know people like Piper and (I believe) Flair started wrestling in their mid-teens, but Rene Dupree has been wrestling professionally since he was 13 or 14?
Yes, I bought this magazine too, for some reason. However, it's hard to take seriously (esp. after reading the Observer awards three days earlier).
I was at the IronMan match, and the unedited version definitley deserves to win (or at least a 1st runner-up spot). However, the version that aired on TV could take a back-seat to about three or four other matches this year.
The fact that Raven v. CM Punk didn't make the Feud of the Year list is a crying shame. It was the only feud throughout the whole year that actually piqued my interest.
I don't think that is right, you're not even allowed to wrestle that young, although he's a pretty big kid so maybe he lied and fooled some people. Anyway, like dmr said it doesn't matter. Rookie of the Year is someone who just made it big regardless of if they've been training or doing small shows and I hadn't heard of Dupree at all until this year.
As for best tag team, WGTT is great but let's not say that WWE is pathetic or anything because AMW was number 2, they're a pretty darn good tag team.
Now if you want sad i'd probably say that Simon/Swinger were my fourth favorite tag team (WGTT, AMW and Guerreros)
"First three I can see the point, Ultimo hmmm dont' know about that unless you talk about coming back from a horrible surgary."
Well isn't that what Angle is back for? A horrible injury/surgery? Ultimo could also be because he returned to an American nationally televised show. What was Raven's comeback for?
"I think the Raven-Jarrett/ Jarrett-Styles fueds belong in fueds of the year."
Raven vs. James Mitchell too, and Raven vs. CM Punk, i've been saying for years you want a good feud then use Raven. I wasn't all that impressed with the Angle/Lesnar feud, but I can't think of any that sticks out right away.
Lastly, I liked Trinity best out of the rookie of the year top 4.
Ack! What took so long for this to get here?!? I've had the magazine for about a half a month now and as the cover said, also Net Slash Hacker, Angle bagged FIVE Awards! I wish they still listed the actual numbers instead of the percent of ballads cast for the catagory. Considering I've had a subscription the past 3 or 4 years I need to start voting for the wrestlers.

Readers I am assuming. They have a ballot in the back of the PWI 500 issue with nominees (as well as the other spot). I dont know for sure if they actually count the votes, or just make up the winners themselves, but I would think that the readers would have some input.
My thoughts: Rookie of the Year: This award is always kind of hard to tell since most people we see on TV have been wrestling for awhile, and our favorite indy stars, when they are rookies, are only big in one region. I do agree with others though in thinking that this was Renee Dupree's first year of wrestling.
Inspirational: Kind of hard to argue against Zach Gowen
Most Improved: Again Cena is the logical choice here.
Comeback: While what Angle did was great, I do think Goldberg deserved this more. Everyone thought he'd bust, but he has turned out to be doing a pretty decent job.
Woman of the year: hard to argue against Trish
Fued of the year: Angle vs Lesnar..again this is a pretty good choice
Most Popular wrestler: Angle surprises em here, I thought Goldberg or Austin would run away with this one.
Most hated: HHH is not a surprise here
Match of the year: I would have gone for Benoit vs Angle, my early choice this year is HBK vs HHH from Raw a few weeks back.
Tag team of the year: the WGTT is a shock here, but I guess they were one of the few consistantly together teams this year.
Wrestler of the year: I cant argue with Angle
Mr. Burns: You are of course familiar with our state usury laws? Homer:U-sur-y? Mr. Burns: Oh silly me, I must have just used a word that doesn't exist.
Zach Gowen shouldnt of won one single award. He is by far the biggest waste in wrestling, look WWE doesnt even use him anymore because he is such a prick backstage.

Zach Gowen shouldn't HAVE won. HAVE won. Not "of." By God, I'll break you all of this habit.

How DARE you people question the credibility of PWI. Where else can you get an exclusive interview with Kane's childhood psychiatrist... They really are trying to walk that line of Markish and Smarkish, last few years they been a bit less markish in the writing.
As others here have said Freeway, PWI claims to tabulate the votes from their readers, which actually doesn't seem too off seeing who won what... Except for the editors choice award which is named after the magazine founder which went this year to Bret Hart. The criteria for that one is usually just someone they want to honor for the year. (last year was Jim Ross I believe)
