I have been reading and hearing a lot of criticism about Randy Orton. I personally think that he is a very talented person and has a very bright future in front of him. Despite is slightly arrogant appearance, which may seem to some as a set back. I; however, believe that it is one of his stronger qualities that he is portraying. I mean you in a business like that you have to have some level confidence even if it is on the verge of becoming arrogance, lest you want to get ran over by the more dominant wrestlers. Anyway, Despite all the negativity that I am hearing and seeing I believe that he will make it far in the WWE.

Where did I miss the negativity for Ortan? Anyway, I like Ortan and don't get sick of him being on my screen so all the luck to him. I pray that last sentence doesn't come back to haunt me with a uber, moon, God-push that turns him into the next class ASS!

Haven't we already exceeded the number of Pro-Randy Orton threads for the first quarter of 2004?

Hate to say but from all reports I've heard he's already acts like an ass around others. From swearing to kids and like a grade A ass... Some might say he's just acting his heel role, which could be the case but the same people mention how cool and nice some of the heels were when they met them.

As a fan of Confidential I think it's an interesting gauge on superstars personality. Orton comes off as kind of a bore when he's on. He's not very interesting or charismatic. Comparing him to someone like Cena, who seems to be very comfortable with himself and the camera... Orton retreats constantly back to his character as the "God's gift to women" attitude. Which might be one of the problems I have with Orton, that type of character is pretty boring especially the way he plays it very deadpan.

In ring, I find him average. He has his moments, but not really consistent and makes some mistakes which is understandable seeing how young he is... Overall alot of indifference to Orton on my part. I dont' think he's brutal or gawd awful and there's been a lot less talented guys who's gotten push. But I'm not necessary counting down the days waiting for Orton big break and chance because I see a star in the making. Which I've felt for some guys in the past after their first year in the company. I guess I'll just say my jury is still out on Randy Orton

Just like his "on screen" wrestling persona.

I shouldn't find the misspelling of Orton ("Ortan") quite as funny as I do. For some reason, I get this image of Or-Tan, a mythical creature from some Godzilla movie.

Can Godzilla save us from Or-Tan?

I prefer "O-Tron, wrestling cyborg from the future". Obviously, he's an early prototype, before they ironed out all the bugs.

Sounds more like "O-tron: Wrestler In Disguise".

OK, obviously they're pushing him before he's ready, but it's just something that has to be done. Lesnar was far from ready when they started his push and he grew into the role phenomenally. Orton isn't there in the ring yet, but he's so young that it's basically a foregone conclusion that he's going to develop into, at least, a pretty good worker, based on his athleticism and who he'll be working with.

At least w/ Lesnar, he had a presence about him. He looked like a bad-ass, and could throw people around w/ ease. He had this aura of barely contained rage just under the surface, where he could snap at any second and just obliterate someone. You couldn't help but pay attention to him.

With Orton, it's just like he's "that guy over there", where there isn't really anything about him that stands out, that makes you want to pay attention to him.

Now I have a visual of HHH pedigreeing the Or-Tan monster over Tokyo...and crushing a lot of little plastic buildings in the process...

That's a fair comment, but I'm seeing improvements in hm all the time. His Royal Rumble performance-both in terms of ringwork and characterisation-was a real turning point, and his reaction to Foley's insanity last week was really well-pitched. As Justin said, give it time-the potential is very obviously there, and he can only get better.

He may look like "the guy over there" but he does have one thing on all the other members of Evolution combined.I have heard about the greatness of all of them but remember that Orton is the ONLY memeber of Evolution that has won his title fair with not chairs, interference, or BS. The WWE didn't just hand it to him. Realistically yea they knew he was going to win cause it was in the script that way but he put on a hell of a match to win it.

I, for one, have been enjoying Orton more and more each week. Sure, he's training on the job but sadly there's really no other way to do it these days.

They may as well push a young guy before he gets tainted like a RVD or Booker T or Chris Jericho by years of getting "thisclose" and losing.

Orton's reactions in the Rumble were great as he tried desperately to match whatever Benoit did. He's becoming more then the cliched "good looking" heel. He's developing an edge and shows good intensity in the ring.

Foley said he'd only do this program with him if Orton showed him something. Austin said that he sees money in Orton. DDP had nothing but good things to say about how open Orton was to improving all aspects of his game - even taking up Yoga after suffering those two injuries back to back.

It's refreshing to see them push a young guy and STICK WITH IT for once. He's gonna stumble, he's gonna make mistakes, he's gonna screw up but ultimately if he has it, it will work and if he doesn't, he'll be Billy Gunn. They may as well try, what do they have to lose?

I have no problem with Orton. I think he's a great performer, and is improving every day. He definitley has the skills, and could mean something in this business.

However, I think it's awful hypocritical when in 2000 you have Chris Jericho who is one of the most over guys in the company and you do nothing with him. And then in 2001 you have Rob Van Dam who is one of the most over guys in the company and you do nothing with him. And then in 2002 you have Booker T who is one of the most over guys in the company and you do nothing with him. And then Matt Hardy, and then Chris Benoit, and then Eddie Guerrero, and the list could go on.

Yet, you have Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton who (at the time) the fans couldn't give a shit about, yet you shove them down the fans throats, and give them chance after chance and you do everything in your power to get them over. Ooops, is Booker T getting over again? Let's have him get squashed by Triple H again tonight. That should shut up the fans.

I have nothing against Randy Orton (and I love Brock Lesnar to death). I just have a problem with the system in which he's getting his push.

I wasn't a big Orton fan until the "Foley is a Coward" angle and the match against RVD, but right he does make good I-C title material, and that's probably the level he'll be at until the main event scene gets their cylical clensing.

As for the "Booker T should be a main eventer" debate, I wouldn't be shocked if part of WWE's reluctance to get behind Booker T was due in part to his back. What would happen if he were getting the super-mega push, then went down with another injury?

Also, I remember Foley writing that at one point his push decreased because he hadn't signed a contract. Isn't it possible that some people haven't signed theirs?

I'm not a HUGE Orton fan, but I do like the guy. He's not a guy I dread seeing on Monday nights. He can put together decent promos, and a decent match now and then (like with RVD a few weeks ago).

I think Orton improves every week. Why, just last week he whiffed with his own FINISHER. Completely missed Jericho. Now, just the week before, he was only missing with PUNCHES. That's a definite upgrade in complexity.

His promos when his arm was broken were great... since then, his promos SUCK. EXCEPT, when it's comical. When the Jindraks stole the Goldberg bounty, he was able to pull that off. But otherwise, he's got no charisma, IMO.

In ring, he's good and will get batter, but he's wrestling a WWE style so it'as the same old same old. He doesn't have his OWN style, and I feel you need one to truely be great.

I'm just not digging him at all.

I think the biggest problem Orton is going to have is the fact that he can't play a face right now because something about him and the way he carries himself just won't work as a face. I can't put my finger on it, but it's kinda the same problem that Christian has.

How many guys have made a career out of just being a heel with no switching? And before a list gets started, consider that you're now arguing that Randy Orton has in your opinion shown the talent to fit in with those people your listing.

As far as him swearing and acting like an asshole to fans outside of the wrestling area and people justifying it as him 'just being a heel', this isn't 1970. Everyone knows it's fake, and I assume even Randy has been informed of that fact at this point. I will accept that he's just 'being in character' as an excuse only when the Dudley's start carrying around tables and putting fans they meet on the street through them.
