From The Raw Website:

Chris Benoit is listed among the RAW roster, with this added to his bio: "At the 2004 Royal Rumble, Benoit joined one of the most exclusive clubs in the history of sports entertainment when he was the first entry into the rumble and survived 29 other men to win the match -- an incredible 61 minutes and 34 seconds in the ring! The victory allowed Benoit to move to RAW and he will be in the main event at WrestleMania XX, competing for the World Heavyweight Championship."

Now what I want to know is, why would Benoit want to compete for a title he threw in the trash just so he could go to WWE? I really just don't see the logic in the storyline for this move, other than the fact that behind the scenes HHH wants to beat Benoit.

I think it's great irony. Whether WWE actually uses this in the storyline or not, is another story.

Benoit's one true shot at glory in a WrestleMania title match is to beat the most dominant wrestler in the last 4 years for the very same belt he threw in the trash to pursue that opportunity 4 years ago.

Blah. He should be gunning for Brock, the guy who made him pass out in a bad-ass submission hold, the guy who made him "tap out", the guy who embarrassed him on national television. Furthermore, it doesn't look like they'll use the "Heyman doesn't want to give him a title shot, so he'll send him to Raw to screw him over" explanation. Hell, last night Heyman wanted to keep him on SD. Now, it just looks like Benoit is scared of Brock. All because HHH used up all the face challengers to his title (except, conveniently, for his buddy).

I still don't get your logic of how Brock embarassed Beniot in that match. Brock was the one who was embarassed. Brock guranteed that he could make Benoit tap out and he couldn't get the job done. Passing out in WWE is a sign of toughness and has been since Austin/Bret.

It doesn't make Benoit look afraid of Brock. It makes Brock look like a weak champion and the WWE Championship look weak which is probably what Triple H wants. Benoit basicly said he wants to face the World Heavyweight Champion because that title is bigger then Brock's.

Man WWE keeps screwing up Smackdown more and more. Smackdown is always losing guys and hardly has anymore talent. On the other hand the RAW roster is stacked, actually make that overstacked. Hell, it even looks like Taker is going to RAW. Even if Smackdown gets Goldberg he's only short term till Mania. I would give Smackdown RVD, Booker T, and Goldberg and Edge has to return back to Smackdown. Smackdown needs to be fixed.

So RAW now has Undertaker and Chris Benoit. The storyline seems to indicate that Paul only considers Benoit as being stolen, but really, doesn't RAW owe SmackDown TWO superstars.

I say give 'em Goldberg & RVD. Then we get Goldberg v. Brock and RVD v. Cena at 'Mania. It's not like Van Dam or Cena have anything better to do for that show (unless your a really big Big Show fan).

I'm sure Goldberg will be the only one traded, and the Undertaker switch will be ignored, but that's just more damage to the brand-extension, I guess.

The post-match "tap out" is what I would consider embarrassing. I know if that was me, I would be none too pleased if someone did that to me. Brock didn't have enough respect for Benoit to just settle for the win w/out the post-match shenanigans. He showed Benoit up. It would be like hitting the game-winning HR in the World Series, and then running the bases backwards.

Add in Benoit needing to figure out a counter to the Stretch Muffler. The story plays out perfectly. Benoit needs to reclaim his honor and teach Lesnar respect. Now, it just looks like Benoit said "well, I guess I can't beat Brock, so I might as well try against HHH."

It makes perfect sense to me, Benoit has already proven that he can beat Lesnar in a title match. So why not go into Wrestlemania with a new challenge? (Maybe he already got screwed against HHH in a title match, I honestly don't remember and doubt most fans do either.)

Regarding Benoit competing for a belt he "threw in the trash", I don't see how that's relevant. On Raw you have the physical belt he walked away from, on Smackdown you have the title itself he gave up mixed in with another belt. Either way, Raw doesn't owe Smackdown anything because, as the article linked in this thread says, winning the Rumble gave Benoit the right to jump brands.

As for 'Taker, I'm pretty sure any employment contracts become null and void whenever you die. (And just because he's going after Kane doesn't mean he's jumping to Raw anyway.)

My bet is on Edge coming in to fill some space on the Smackdown roster.

Who's Triple H beaten since Benoit came to the WWF/E?

Everyone [Royal Rumble 02]
The Big Show [WrestleMania XVI]
Booker T [WrestleMania XIX; Backlash 03]
Cactus Jack [Rumble 00; No Way Out 00; WrestleMania XVI]
Chris Benoit [No Mercy 00]
Chris Jericho [Fully Loaded 00; WrestleMania XVIII; Judgment Day 02; SummerSlam 03]
Goldberg [SummerSlam 03; Armageddon 03]
Kane [Backlash 01; No Mercy 02; Armageddon 03]
Kevin Nash [Backlash 03; Bad Blood 03; SummerSlam 03]
Kurt Angle [Unforgiven 00]
Randy Orton [SummerSlam 03]
Rob Van Dam [Unforgiven 02]
The Rock [WrestleMania XVI; Judgment Day 00]
Scott Steiner [No Way Out 03]
Shawn Michaels [Armageddon 02; Backlash 03; SummerSlam 03]
Steve Austin [No Way Out 01]
Undertaker [Backlash 01]

So...MY logic would be that Benoit wants to finally regain the title he was never beaten for, four years after he didn't want it anymore. Or something. Or maybe Triple H has already beaten everybody, and Benoit wants to AVENGE their losses. Or something.

Maybe they'll explain this as Benoit getting one last one over on Heyman. Since Heyman said that Benoit would never get a title shot and did everything in his power to screw him over, Benoit, after winning the Rumble, jumps to Raw, thus denying Smackdown of the prestige of having the Royal Rumble winner and a top star. It forces Heyman to acknowledge Benoit's talent (as he did by complaining to Bischoff -- if Heyman really disliked Benoit he wouldn't care if he jumped or not) and makes Heyman lose face.

But RAW is The flagship show of the WWE. They make a point to say that every week on the show. Smackdown is just that other WWE show. RAW is the overall main show of the WWE, why not have the biggest title and biggest roster?

Man, WWE logic sucks, doesn't it?

To be fair, though, Smackdown usually gets first crack at young talents and new blood. Therefore, Smackdown tends to skew younger demographics, and are in a much better position, long-term.

But it is J.R. who says it all the time, it's not like Cole and Tazz say it. It may be true, but J.R. saying it is just one the inevitabilities of the brand extension. Cole and Tazz used to shill Smackdown all the time at the start of the split.

Given HHH and HBK's little debate, interrupted by Benoit, maybe he gets heat with both of them and is assisted by a fellow Stampede Wrestling alumnus who also has an axe to grind with the old DX guys.

They're basically using the same storyline/motivation for the Foley/Orton feud - Orton disrespects Foley, shows no respect for the man or his honor or his legacy, and embarrasses him on national TV (the "friends of Orton" spots). Foley comes back to defend his honor and to teach Orton respect.

Let's play a little game of W.W.A.D? - What Would Austin Do? Say (for example) Austin has Lesnar beat, but the ref is knocked out. Lesnar kicks Austin in the nuts, makes him pass out in a vicious submission move, and then makes Austin "tap out" while he's passed out. Would Austtin say "oh, well, I proved I could beat him, so I'll just switch brands to face a guy I haven't interacted with for a couple years, and go after his title just for the challenge to see if I could do it."? No, he'd be gunning for Lesnar, to reclaim his honor, to teach Lesnar a lesson, and to take his title.

They're throwing away a perfectly good storyline, and for what? HHH killed off all the top level faces on Raw (save for his buddy), so he needs someone who can make him look good while simultaneously not overshadowing him (or HBK), someone he can drop the belt to, and then grab it back in a few months. Cena was the other guy that was rumored to be a choice, but it's easy to see why he wasn't chosen. The matches wouldn't have been as good, and since Cena is super-over, he would have overshadowed HHH (and HBK). Benoit will get a token title reign, and then he'll job it back to HHH and then be shoved down into the midcard just like everyone else before him (except HBK). Chris Benoit - just another victim.

I hope, hope, hope I'm proven wrong, but looking at the track record, I have a hard time believing that I will be.

And there would be a RAW where Austin went on a multi-segment stalking mission of Lesnar. Said segment would include Brock:

1) Hog-tied to the back of the four-wheeler
2) Chased through a supermarket
3) Having Austin arrested
4) Stunnered at the end of the show and doused with beer.

As it is, we'll get Benoit *maybe* getting the honor of clearing Evolution out of the ring (for one show), pointing at HHH while the champ shakes his jowels and holds up the belt. Of course, Evolution would get a corresponding beatdown at a subseqent show and/or pay-per-view.

My bet is that they keep HBK in the mix and make it a worthless three-way for the title at 'Mania.
