alot is being made these days about the SI curse.

they say that if you get the cover of SI, your pretty much screwed. Just ask Donovan McNabb.

Well - Just a trip back through memory lane..

In 1987 the Cleveland Indians were on the rise, or so SI thought. Joe Carter, Mel Hall and (my favorite) Cory Snyder graced the cover of the baseball preview issue!

Unfourtunatly, the Indians finished dead last in ALL of baseball, at least 27 games back.

With a pitching staff that Included Tom Candiotti, Greg Swindell, Phil Niekro and closer Doug Jones. An Lineup that had Carter, Snyder, Pat Tabler, Julio Franco, Brook Jacoby and the great Willie Upshaw, how could SI not pick the tribe??

Oh well.

I needed to get that off my chest.

lol crz...

yeah, it took 14 years for me to admit in a public forum that Cory Snyder was my favorite player. Being an Indians fan in '87 was rough.

Muhsin Muhammed is on the cover this week. Do they follow up with the Pats next week to screw up everyone on this curse thing?

Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.

What would happen if they split the cover to feature both teams at once? Or if they did multiple covers?

And have they never profiled anyone like Lance Armstrong the week before the Tour de France? There must be a counter-example somewhere...

Don't underestimate them. They finished 61-101 and 37 games back.

only 37 games back??? wow that WAS a good season.

You can imagine how much a movie like Major League was so important to me back then (and still, one of the best), it was the ONLY time I saw the indians win!

With a line up featuring Willie Mays-Hayes, Roger Dorn, Whatever Tom Berenger's Name was and Ricky Vaughn...oh forget it...

They did this to the Cubs and BoSox during the AL and NL Championship Series'. You probably know what happened.

The roof on Reliant Stadium would probably collapse while the roof was closing, killing both teams... ;-)

Snyder also had one hell of an arm from right field, but yes, like Pedro Sorrano, he couldnt seem to find the curve ball.

He struck out as much as Pete Incaviglia or Rob Deer.

Oh well.

I'd just like to point out that the Pack beat the SI Jinx in '96, making the cover along w/ KC. Even more so, SI picked KC to beat Green Bay in Super Bowl XXXI.

So naturally, New England makes it instead, and jobs to Cheesehead Nation. :-)
