Well, not since Ric Flair has the Rumble meant so much to someone. You don't see an authentic smile on someones face often on WWE TV but tonight you did, on Chris Benoits face.

Ah, screwed up the title, damn it!

Overall an acceptable PPV. However, what was the reason for such short matches tonight? Lesnar vs. Holly about 7 min? Very disappointing in that sense due to the PPV ending 15 min. early. HBK vs. Triple H was good but could've had so much more to offer.

The Rumble itself gives me mixed reactions and feelings because it's great that Benoit won, but sad knowing *why* he won. Also since his fate is to job to Triple H, you got to feel sorry for him. Personally I'd rather have him win it at WM and lose it in Edmonton (or keep it in general) than have him lose to Triple H at WM just to boost his ego. I bet Triple H was in the back just smiling because he knew that when he goes over Benoit he technically just beat the 29 other people Benoit beat in order to get to him as well.

A great night. But it means nothing if Benoit is merely to be HHH's job boy in March. So let's see where this goes.

If the WWF decided to use a Super Mario Brothers gimmick...

"Mah gawd, King! Garrison Cade just bounced a fireball toward Rene Dupree!"
"And look, Mark Jindrak just jumped on top of Conway's head! I think he's out cold, JR!"
"What're they up to now..where did that huge pipe come from?!"
"They're going down in the pipe! They're..they're gone!"
--Mike Sweetser

"Oh my god, JR. Cade just shrunk after he was hit by that chair!"
"Here comes RVD, King. What's that he has in that bag?"
"Are those Mushrooms, JR?"
"Cade's eating the Mushrooms. BAH GAWD, KING! Cade just grew twice his size!"

The first 2 hours of the PPV were really flat. Eddie v. Chavo was good but not great, as well as Hunter/Shawn. Noble and Mysterio only got THREE MINUTES for Christ's sake!!!

However, the actual Rumble match told a HELL of a story! Great job. They did an excellent job pushing Benoit as a fighter, Big Show as a monster, and Randy Orton as the star of the future.

They also did an excellent job of using this PPV to build towards WrestleMania, setting up Benoit/Hunter, Goldberg/Brock, and Undertaker/Kane feuds.

John Cena looked like he got hurt when he was thrown out. I hope not, because this would be the worst possible time for him to be out with an injury.

I know people (myself included) complain about new stars not being pushed. And those complaints are MORE than justified. However; If anyone told me two years ago that the final six of the Royal Rumble would be Chris Benoit, Big Show, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam, and John Cena; And then told me that Chris Benoit would win the thing, I'd laugh in their face. Just saying.

Finally, there is no sweeter sound that Jim Ross announcing that Benoit is going to be in the main-event of Royal Rumble.

BTW, did anyone notice how soft and flabby Triple H was? Just something I noticed.

Great show. Everyone at my house was glued to the TV for the Rumble match. Please, pretty please let's see Benoit get the duke at Mania!!

Cheers to them for leaving the field so wide open and creating lots of questions about who would win.

And yeah, I hope Cena's leg's okay.

Come on. HHH hasn't beat Benoit yet, he isn't even on the same show. And the idea is just silly. Maybe he was laughing an evil laugh also and looking over his shoulder to make sure he wasn't seen.

Edit: I was referring to Wrestlemania, two months from now, which isn't in the annals of history yet.

Decent show. Good to see Foley, and the tease of Undertaker was a good start.

HHH hasn't beat Benoit yet? I guess No Mercy 2000 got erased from the annals of history then.

I thought the Goldberg/Lesnar angle was handled suburbly. Nice to see they didn't forget about Survivor Series. Never thought i'd see an F5 delivered to Goldberg so soon.
Foleys return was also handeled well, classic move to get him and Orton eliminated.
I almost freaked out when I heard the Taker Bell tolls which almost confirms he will return to the Phenom gimmick.
The first four matches done and dusted in under an hour? I couldn't believe it. If your gonna give Mysterio/Noble and Eddie/Chavo about 5 minutes each just save them for No Way Out. The Guerreros match was being built for they long haul and then cut short.
Loved the story Michaels and Trips told, the counting was getting annoying. Hopefully a rematch for Raw.
Benoit has to defeat the Game at Mania. And if Vince McMahon doesn't realise this, then he has totally lost touch with the fans.

I also loved how JR said that Flair had the Rumble longevity record, when Bob Backlund holds it. He beat out Flair in the 1993 Royal Rumble.

And yes I think Triple H is enough of an ass to sit in the back and laugh knowing that Benoit worked his ass off in order to be fed to him. Whether Triple H wins at WM or Backlash, it's irrelevant to him, because somehow or someway he's going over Benoit and make himself a *bigger* star in his mind...

I think HBK and HHH was alright for what it was, but I kept waiting for Stone Cold to come out and say that SOMEBODY had to win. At least HBK hit 0.8 Muta tonight to make the vampire in me cheer.

Good to see Tazz running with JR on commentary this year. It really did improve Ross' side of things and he just ran with whatever Tazz was saying. It was hilarious because you can just see JR sitting there "What the hell is a T-Bone Suplex? Oh hell, I'll let it go... That WAS one damn T-Bone Tazz!"

By the way, I think that the crowd cheered louder for Cena's entrance than Benoit's win.

Ah touche eh, however, Flair worked hard and got the *title*, Benoit worked hard and gets to job. It's also more of a matter as to *why* he won. Benoit won the Rumble to make Triple H a *bigger* star. It's backstage politics that left a semi-bad taste in my mouth after this match.

You should be able to understand the difference. Especially considering who Chris is going up against in two months.

I hate HHH, but my hatred for him will reach new levels if he squashes Benoit at WM.

With the exception of 92 this has got to be my favorite Rumble match. Not only because Benoit took it home, but because they really made a story of it. The Undertaker teaser, Foley's return, Benoit's 60 minute run, and most of all the tremendous job they did with Big Show. Great booking all around!

I can't see much wrong with the match. That said, I think Ross was awful tonight, showing no true enthuasium until the end. Especailly during Foley's return, one minute he is yelling, the next it's just as significant as a Test/Stiener brawl. Second, with the exception of New York and Boston, Northeastern crowds are the worse, I've been in nursing homes that showed more energy then that crowd. Dead crowds are always a pet peeve with me, then again, it's not like WWE did much of anything early to get them going.

Nothing impressed me at all on the undercard, HBK vs. HHH was good, but nowhere near the level of the Raw match a few weeks back. The Rey vs. Nobel match, hah, what a joke, I went to get a pop and turn my computer off and by the time I get back its over. Eddie vs.Chavo was good, but, much like the storyline in that it was rushed.

Edit: I forgot, as far as Benoit getting crushed, yeah, your probably right. I'm going to hate to see it as much as you guys. But, I'll try to be the optimist and say, at least you can enjoy the next couple months, at least Benoit is going to get to main event at one of the biggest events ever, and I'm sure benoit will walk out of Wrestlemania not with gold around his waste but plenty in his pocket.

The actual royal rumble was the best booked one I can ever remember. First off, every single guy who had a legit shot to win was in it at the end, and all the useless guys were gotten rid off. I thought Goldberg, Kurt Angle, Chris Beniot, Chris Jericho, John Cena then Big Show were the most likely winners in that order, and they were all in it at the end. The booking of Goldberg's surprizing elimination (by Kurt Angle, the man it should have been!) was awesome, as was the entire "we can elimiante Big Show" angle. The final sequence, with Beniot slowly tipping big show over the top rop with a believable-looking choke hold (not the big man runs into the little man and gets flipped over the ropes thing i feared they would do) was a GREAT way to cap it off. I had been losign interest in wrestling for the last month or so and now i am hooked back in!

For crying out loud, people, he hasn't even switched brands! As of now, the main event of WrestleMania XX is Brock Lesnar vs. Chris Benoit. There are thousands of ways to go with this. Goldberg can cost Brock the title at No Way Out, just to name one. Stop being so doom and gloom before you know what happens.

About 15 minutes ago, Chris Benoit, IWC God, just beat 29 other men and won the Royal Rumble. The IWC is complaining.

Chris Benoit, IWC God, is going to be in the main event of the biggest show in professional wrestling history. The IWC is complaining.

MonteCarl, looked for you on TV tonight. Couldn't see any obvious signs in the area where you supposed to be sitting. Did you have one? All I saw over there was an orange sign for Benoit that had so much written on it no one could read it the whole thing....
