...since we have an ACC thread on this too.

G - Chris Jackson, LSU - No question here...the most dominating scorer I ever saw in the SEC. Had 5 games of 40 or more points as a FRESHMAN.

G - Allan Houston, UT - Not to sure about this one...He was a SUPERB shooter and scorer but played on some TERRIBLE teams...Not to mention he ALWAYS had the green light cause the coach was some other guy named Houston...

F - Jamal Mashburn, UK - No question here either...SEC player of the year in '93 (even though he had to share it with Billy McCaffery, OH YES). Best player on one of the best teams in recent SEC memory

F - Chuck Person, AU - One of the best scorers and shooters in SEC history..."The Rifleman" had some epic showdowns with Larry Bird in his pro career...Don't necessarily agree with this pick though.

C - Shaquille O'Neal, LSU - Only gets the nod here, cause the SEC is traditionally weak when it comes to post players...He wasn't near as dominating in college as he is in the pros. Sam Bowie came in second if that tells you anything...

Notable omissions: Dominique Wilkins, Charles Barkley, Kenny Walker, Corliss Williamson, Todd Day...

Thoughts? Could this team possibly beat the ACC team??

Chuck, don't be dissin' Sam....

I really think that 25 years is too long of a time period to cover, too many deserving players are omitted.

Kyle Macy should be on any list honoring all-time SEC greats, he was All-SEC and All-American too many times to not be on the list.

I loved Mashburn, he meant a ton to the rejuvenation of the UK program after Sutton's disaster. At the same time, I don't know if I could clearly choose him over Kenny Walker.

There was too much of a bias against the "older" guys. Macy, Bowie, Walker, Barkley, Dale (or is it Del?) Ellis. But, ESPN is generating fan interest, which was their likely goal.

Barkley definitely deserved mention. And i dont think the SEC could touch the ACC bc we have the greatest player ever on our team.

I guess I could have said "Will Perdue came in third place if that tells you anything" :-)

Absolutely not. I love SEC Basketball, but the ACC is by far and away much more talented and deep. I think the Silver Anniversary Duke team alone could probably beat the most of anniversary conference teams (man it hurt to type that).

I don't think Chris Jackson would have my been choice at Point Guard, I would have gone with Todd Day. Jackson was a heck of a shooter, but Day was a complete Point man. I would put Jackson on the second team and Kyle Macy on the third team.

Everyone seems to forget Rex Chapman at two guard. Even though he only played two years Chapman is the best shooter I have ever seen. Chapman averaged almost 20 points, 2 steals, 3 boards, and 2 blocked shots a game his last year with UK. Had Eddie Sutton not mailed a big wad of cash to Chris Mills he would have stuck around for another year or two as well. Kentucky had commitments from Chris Mills and Shawn Kemp and would ran away with a National Title in either 89 or 90. Damn Eddie Sutton.

WIENER OF THE DAY! July 6, 2002!

Wienerville Survivor League Co-Champion
If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

Are you sure you're not confusing Day with Lee Mayberry?

I don't think they necessarily went specifically by each position...I think they just picked 2 guards, 2 forwards, and a center. Chris Jackson is definitely well deserving of being one of the top 2 guards of the past 25 years.

Todd Day, who set the Arkansas career scoring record and was a two-time first team All-American, was much better than Lee Mayberry. The thing about Day is that Arkansas was in the Southwest Conference for his first three years, so he only played in the SEC for one year. Day was great, but Jackson was completely unstoppable in college.

Yes I know, but he was talking about Todd Day being a better all around POINT GUARD then Chris Jackson, and I just wondered if he meant Mayberry since:

a) Day played the 2 most of his college and pro career
b) I don't think Day ever passed the ball in 4 years at Arkansas

Well, given what usually happens in this type of situation, is anyone else expecting within the next few months either a woman comes out and claims she's McGrady's mistress or he just gets caught with another woman?
