Vince Tells SD! Wrestlers To Not Talk To The 'Net Posted By Ashish on 01.21.04
WWE boss serious about leaks...
Vince McMahon told Smackdown wrestlers yesterday what he told RAW wrestlers on Monday: don't talk to the wrestling press. Vince told wrestlers that he would "fire them on the spot" if he found out they were leaking information.
Brock Lesnar spoke up during the meeting and backed Vince McMahon's points. Brock has recently started becoming more of a "locker room leader."
In addition to the 'net issue, Vince critiqued many wrestlers and went as far as to embarass some.

Wait... didn't somebody go do what they were told not to just do? Well, some good that talk did, huh?
Good ol' Vince. When business is down and you want the wrestlers to work hard, embarass them. What a great motivator. Can I book him as a motivational speaker at my college? Tony Robbins has got NOTHING on him!
I wish I was a fly on the wall of THAT conference, though.

I think Vince is losing his freaking mind. He is so paranoid for some reason.
Ralph: [whispering] Lisa, what's the answer to number seven? Lisa: [whispering] Sorry, Ralph. That would defeat the purpose of testing as a means of student evaluation. Ralph: [pauses] My cat's name is Mittens.
I saw this report on www.nodq.com a couple of hours ago. I am not sure how believable it is. I mean, if he really was going to fire them on the spot, why would somebody just run off to the internet? Sorry about the hijack, but do we really have any reason to believe reports like this? Just throwin that out there!
"Huard, gonna go back to throw the ball. Sets up, looks, throws towards the corner of the endzone...it is INTERCEPTED INTERCEPTED, THE DUCKS HAVE THE BALL! Down to the 35, the 40. Kenny Wheaton's gonna score! Kenny Wheaton is gonna score! 20, the 10, Touchdown! Kenny Wheaton on the interception, the most incredible finish to the football game!" Jerry Allen... 'Nuff Said
Why should it matter ... Vince does just the opposite of what everyone wants anyway ...

Pity Brock wasn't on Raw, then somebody could plant a HHH comment and have Brock kill him. Ah but that wouldn't work. HHH is too smart to be caught in such a ham handed attempt.
Um, I'm gonna have a wild stab in the dark here and suggest the following may have happened.
1. Bog standard internet reporter has one or two sources who, of late have actually managed to leak some fairly important spoilers to said reporter.
2. Vince announces he's holding a backstage meeting on RAW and SD. At this meeting he voices his displeasure at recent leaks and states sanctions will be taking measures to ensure they are not repeated.
3. Bog standard reporter suddenly finds sources no longer wish to talk to him.
4. Bog standard reporter who now has nothing to write about realises all he has to do is write an article about how Vince threatened to fire wrestlers, and starve their families if leaks were repeated. He then goes on to mention how Vince physically and emotionally abused all present to hammer home his point.
Et VOILA!!!! Reporter not only has a story, but is also able to paint Vince as EEEEEEVIL and himself as oh so clever and well connected. Genius.
I don't doubt for a second that Vince is pissed about storylines being leaked. Why wouldn't he be? But as for the rest of the story, I'd be taking that with the proverbial pinch.
The irony of telling SD wrestlers no to talk to wrestling media and being leaked out less then 24 hours later is right up there as George W not wanting internal memos to be leaked out to the press which of course that memo asking for memos not to be leaked out was leaked out to the press as well. LoL
Jeeez Vince, calm down!
smark/net attack wienerville advisory is on ORANGE alert - High (Due to Bob Holly WWE Title match, Kliq/Kliq PPV World Title match, Mae Young appearance) 1/6
Get your WWE CD copy autographed by Stone Cold Steve Austin, Chris Jericho, Trish Stratus and Lilian Garcia after Raw... Oh MY! Christmas has come late. Can't get better then that.

I think there are easier ways to paint Vince as evil.
Yes, but not many which simultaneously stick 2 fingers up at Vince while making the reporter look like gold.
Look at it this way. If Vince has told wrestlers not to leak information, thats gonna piss off the reporter. That gives him an agenda here before a word is written.
The willingness with which people accept rubbish like this is truly astounding.
Of course its gonna be fairly obvious to any reporter that Vince has said something when all of a sudden none of his sources will say 2 words to him straight after a meeting.
It seems mighty convenient that the first story he gets after that paints the guy who's trying to scupper the reporters work in a very bad light.
Good on the man. People are fucking with his business, and giving information to a group of people who already believe him to be the Devil himself. Why shouldn't he tell his employees to stop fucking things up? Wouldn't YOU do the same?
"You're A Big Hunk Of Hero Sandwich, And You Wanna Save The Girl!"
I gotta go with dMr and oldschoolhero here, it was probably a case of Vince telling everyone to stop and then a "reporter" somewhere decided to beef it up to the point of Vince ready to fire everyone and Brock pulling out a gun and threatening to kill people if they even think about talking to someone outside of the room about anything.
Then the "reporter" toned it down slightly because he knew the first version was too farfetched.
Seriously, if you're a businessman, and your business thrives on coming up with new products every week, would you really want your employees to be telling everyone about the new products days or even weeks ahead of time? It just makes financial sense to ask people to tone it down with the internet reporters, especially since so many of them couldn't report the sky is blue on a clear day without making up a few "facts" along the way to make them look better.

I see it another way...this is like Mom telling the kids to get the hell out of the kitchen when she's trying to make a surprise.
In other words, assuming that WMXX will have some good stuff in it as surprises, I think it's not out of the realm that the WWE would want to plug as many leaks as possible before that.
Besides, the WWE isn't the only company on earth to have an internal message to not leak any unauthorized information to the press. And in this situation I use the word "press" loosely since by "press" I mean the sheets.
But if the internet fans are such a minority, as we ALWAYS hear, then why does Vince care if such a small portion of the fanbase knows about anything?
As a friend said, if it wasn't for the internet, many more fans would have left wrestling a long time ago. Wrestling is like a comedy - it's more fun when other people are watching it with you.

Good point, but I believe he's telling the wrestlers not to reveal future plans on radio shows and promotional appearances that they do too.

Why should he be okay with a "small portion" knowing it? He doesn't want anyone outside of the company knowing about this stuff, so what makes a "small portion" okay and the rest not?
I just mean, if Vinnie cares about keeping this stuff quiet, then he doesn't care where it is appearing, just that it is appearing, period.
1wrestling reporting a negative story about Vince McMahon. Well, there's a first to everything. Geez.
But you don't see many columns on 1wrestling talking about how TNA was foolish to make big plans for Hogan and how this whole thing blew up in their face.
(btw: Vince was right)
Everything I say is a lie. Except that. And that. And that. And that. And that....And that.
