So I'm watching the Eagles game last week, and I notice that a Philadelphia player twice made the "behold where the title belt would fit around my waist" gesture. This looked like a challenge to Denver's Clinton Portis' running back championship, and I still believe the NFL should have a rushing championship belt at the conclusion of the entire season. Present it at the Pro Bowl, maybe.

So here's my wrestling-related question: Can anyone tell me when this gesture started in the ring? I can recall Taker doing it and maybe even Warrior. Hogan used it when challenging the champ. But who started this? Any ideas? How far back does it go?

Thanks for your time.

Why would anyone on the eagles do a gesture at Clinton Portis? That makes no sense

Portis sported a replica of the World Championship Belt after scoring 5 TDs at some point in the season. What connection it is to this....none.

It was "4th and 24" Freddie Mitchell making the "I want da belt" gesture. It has nothing to do with Clinton Portis and the Big Gold Belt.

Freddie Mitchell did the gesture in the Eagles game. The reason he does that is because the other eagle players nicknamed him "The People's Champ".

First off, nobody in Eagle-country will be doing any belt bragging anymore...

As for the lineage of that taunt, it's probably been around forever, but I can recall Ravishing Rick Rude doing it during his quest for WWF intercontinental gold.

Im sure hes not the first though. Its funny in my head I can picture just about EVERY wrestler I have ever watched doing it.

I wonder who was the first? You gotta figure Flair was doing it at some point.

It was probably around forever. I remember Pedro Morales doing that in the 70's, one of his I-C title rematches (against either Muraco or Patera, can't remember).

oh yeah? Well I remember Dick the Bulldog Brower doing that in his WWWF JR. Heavyweight title match vs. Yukon Erich in the 60's.

The woman in WWE need better character development. The last serious storyline I remember is Lita vs. Matt Hardy. I'm not interested against Trish against every woman who's a psycho, or Molly claiming to be a virgin.
