Apparently, the Packers and Patriots have worked out a deal for Terry Glenn, and Glenn and the Packers are this close [holds fingers as in 4th and inches] to a contract deal. Let's hope Mike Sherman knows what he's doing on this one.
Seems I'm the only one who's thinks the pack should take the risk in trading for Terry Glenn. I was hoping months ago the packers will try to trade for him in the offseason.
Is trading for Terry Glenn a big gamble? Yes. But what do the packers have to lose? Their receiving corps stinks and is one of the worse in the NFL. Bill "Whimp" Schroeder won't be back. Bradford is good as gone (what has he done in 4 years?). Driver hasn't got the potential to be a starter and is too thin. Freeman's slowing down (hope he take a pay cut). And hoping Ferguson will make a impact this season is wishful thinking (he got no experience last year).
Favre needs weapons. He's not getting any younger. If he had the weapons Warner has, the packers would be in the super bowl every year. No kidding. The team is wasting his talents. Sherman needs to add a big play WR. FA offers little. Glenn is the best option. Don't rely on the draft, a rookie WR rarely makes a impact (but they should draft one in the early rounds). If Glenn plays to his potential (AND THAT'S A BIG IF), it's steal for Green Bay. Not only that, defenses will focus less on Ahman Green (less 8 men in the box) and open more running lanes for him.
Of cause, it can blow up in their faces. I'm hoping it'll be the other way. I applaud Sherman for looking into this trade, because the window to get to the super bowl is closing.

I always called him Fairy Glenn. I spoze if he is indeed a Packer next year, I'll have to find me a new nickname. But yes, I do think its a good gamble. The only reason this is an option is because Glenn has stated many times that he wants FAVRE to be the one chucking footballs his way. Thats good enough motivation for me.
i don't see how the change in scenary will make a difference...he's still the same terry glenn but now on a team that expects a lot more than the patriots did.

The status of Mike Sherman remains to be seen...
If the Pack acquires NFL Pro Bowl alternate Terry Glenn, who manages to recover the form that won him the Fred Biletnikoff Award in 1995 and Sports Illustrated's Rookie of the Year award in 1996, he will be considered a genius.
If the Pack acquires NFL wide receiver Terry Glenn, who knows how to run a route, catch a pass, and exhibit speed at least occasionally, he will be considered to be of above-average intelligence.
If the Pack acquires NFL malcontent Terry Glenn, who whines incessantly, smokes weed, and spends most of his time on the injured list or suspended, he will be considered an idiot.

There's actually a precedent for this kind of case.
In 1996, the Packers brought in Andre Rison, who back then filled the spot currently occupied by Terry Glenn as the biggest malcontent in the NFL.
People said it wouldn't work...an urbanized African-American in lily-white Green Bay...but Rison was on exemplary behavior for his season in green-and-gold, he revived his '91 Atlanta chemistry with Favre, and the two clicked. I still remember Rison as the only man who could do the "Lambeau Leap" and completely clear the green padding on the stadium wall in 1 jump.
Oh yeah, and the Packers won their first world championship in 29 years that season, complete with a Rison TD in the Super Bowl.
(Yet another reason I hate St. Louis...our turnovers vs. them screwed us out of a New Orleans Super Bowl rematch with Bledsoe and the Pats! Of course, Brady started anyway, but...oh, hell.)
Now Mike Sherman will try the same with Glenn. Granted, no Reggie White for character influence (insert joke here, Reggie-haters) this time around...but if the disarming, country-boy Favre can get to Glenn like he got to Rison, I think Glenn will be OK in Titletown.
Let's hope, anyway...the Packer receiver corps has exactly NOBODY else.

Oh, no doubt about that, but they're not going to be asking him to start. He'll be part of a 4 man DT rotation, which would allow him to stay more fresh and make more of an impact. He's still got years left, he's just too big to play every down.
