from 1wrestling.com:

NWA: Total Nonstop Action for January 14th began with a review of the incident last week where Jeff Jarrett challenged AJ Styles and Erik Watts to a tag match against himself and Abyss, with the stips that if AJ's team wins, he gets a title shot, but if Jarrett's team wins, Watts must step down as NWA Director Of Authority.

Jeff Jarrett was wondering who the masked man was that attacked him last week. Jarrett's attorney, on the phone, told him he hadn't gotten "his report" on him yet. The attorney also told Jeff Jarrett that he could announce the "big news" tonight as well.

After the opening video, Mike Tenay and Don West ran down the matches for tonight. Tenay noted that no one had heard from Raven, who was scheduled to team with Sandman against CM punk & Julio Dinero tonight.

They went outside the building, where the masked man from last week, who is now called "El Leon" was brawling with Jarrett. They brawled into the ring, and the Red Shirts ran out to help Jarrett. El Leon fought them off, and escaped through the crowd. Jarrett went and argued with Mike Tenay before security got him to go to the back.

America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris & James Storm) vs. Red Shirt Security (Kevin Northcutt & Legend) - Rawhide Whipping Match. Leather straps were attached to the top rope on all four sides of the ring by tethers. They started brawling on the floor before the bell could ring. It quickly settled into a tag match, with both teams using the straps when they got their opponent near one. After going back and forth, Chris Harris got a hot tag and cleaned house, giving a full nelson slam to Legend and whipping him with the strap. Northcutt tried to stop Harris, but Harris clotheslined him, then whipped him. Storm whipped Legend into the outstretched leather strap. Harris gave Northcutt a Thesz press, then ripped his shirt off so he could whip his bare back. Northcutt took a strap off the ropes, but Harris speared him for a two count. Harris put Northcutt in a Sharpshooter, while Storm whipped Northcutt. Legend came in and tossed Storm to the floor, then hit Harris with a boot to the face for two. Legend rolled up Harris, but Storm superkicked Legend, and Harris reversed the rollup for the pin at the nine minute mark. Winners: America's Most Wanted. Post Match, the Red Shirts hung Harris over the top rope, and went to give Storm a spike piledriver, but Harris got back in the ring with a chair to run them off.

A video on Ultimate X II from last week was shown, interspersed with comments from new X Division Champion Chris Sabin.

Scott Hudson interviewed Michael Shane, Shane Douglas and Traci. Michael said tonight was his first step towards getting the X Division Title back. Shane Douglas said this was another example of politics, and that Shane was forced to defend against three men last week. Douglas also promised Elix Skipper that he would get his "ass franchised".

Low Ki vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Michael Shane. This match was to determine the number one contender for the X Division Title. Daniels and Low Ki started arguing as soon as they were both in the ring, even before Shane came out. Low Ki and Daniels went at it at the bell, and Shane, after just watching at first, joined in. However, Shane would just be shoved away so they could get back to hitting each other. We saw that Sandman as in the back looking for Raven. Shane dumped Daniels to the floor, and hit Low Ki with a back elbow. Shane suplexed Low Ki for a two count. Shane and Low Ki traded chops, then Shane tossed Low Ki through the ropes into Daniels. Chris Sabin was shown watching from the balcony. Shane tossed Low Ki back into the ring after tossing Daniels into the guardrail. Daniels made it back in, but Shane rammed him into Low Ki for a two count. Shane chopped Daniels and then choked him in the corner with his boot. Shane kicked Low Ki, then Daniels. Shane hit Daniels with a flying forearm for two. Low Ki kicked Shane from the apron, and Daniels gave Shane a reverse atomic drop, then held Shane so Low Ki could hit a springboard kick. Low Ki hit a series of chops on Shane, and Low Ki and Daniels started double teaming Shane. Daniels held Shane for a series of kicks, then Low Ki kicked Daniels. Low Ki chopped Shane, who whipped him towards Daniels, but Low Ki put on the breaks and kicked Shane. Low Ki hit Daniels with a rolling kick, then Shane poked Low Ki in the eyes. Low Ki kicked Shane in his bandaged arm, then dropkicked his legs out from under him and applied a jujigatame. Daniels broke up the hold, and delivered a backbreaker and a STO into a crossface, but Shane broke it up with a top rope elbow. Shane backdropped Daniels as Daniels went for the Angel's Wings. Daniels and Shane fought on the ropes, and Daniels went for a sunset flip, resulting in the two trading covers. Daniels hit the Angel's Wings, but Low Ki broke it up. Daniels gave Low Ki a palm strike, but Low Ki locked on a Dragon Clutch on the ropes. They battled on the ropes, but Shane shoved Daniels to the floor. Shane went for a superkick on Low Ki, but Ki blocked it and hit a rolling kick. Low Ki hit a handspring kick in the corner, then went for the Ki Krusher, but Shane Douglas came down and grabbed Low Ki's leg. This distracted Low Ki, and allowed Shane to hit a superkick for the pin at the eleven minute mark. Winner: Michael Shane.

Scott Hudson interviewed AAA's Antonio Pena and Armando Quintaro. They announced that AAA and TNA had reached a promotional agreement. On February 11th, the "America's X Cup" will take place, as four wrestlers from AAA and four wrestlers from the X Division will participate.

They showed a video package of AAA highlights.

Simon Diamond vs. David Young, Glenn Gilberti as special referee. Gilberti got on the mic and talked about how this match would solve the problems between them, since the loser would be out of their group. Gilberti asked them to shake hands, but Simon refused. Young slapped him, and Simon tackled him to the mat. Simon hit a Russian legsweep for two. Diamond tossed Young to the floor and tossed him into the guardrails. Diamond worked over Young on the floor, as Gilberti told them to take it back into the ring. Young kicked Diamond low in the ring, and Gilberti admonished Young for it. Young worked over Diamond with punches and whipped him into a corner. Diamond fired back with punches, but Young hit a short arm clothesline. Young and Gilberti argued over the use of a closed fist. Diamond rolled up Young, but Gilberti was slow to count, and Young kicked him off to the floor. Young worked over Diamond's back on the floor, then tossed him back into the ring. Young brought a chair into the ring, but Gilberti took it away. Young hit some punches and hit a forearm. Young went to the ropes, but missed a moonsault. Diamond rolled up Young, who kicked out at two. Diamond hit a superkick, then collapsed to the mat. Diamond hit the Simon Series of two suplexes, but Young reversed on the third. Young went to the top rope, but Diamond crotched him. Diamond hit a top rope rana, but Gilberti gave Diamond a stunner, and rolled Young on top of him and counted a quick three at the six minute mark Winner: David Young. Post match, Gilberti and Young worked over Diamond, but Johnny Swinger ran in and helped Diamond run off Gilberti and Young.

Scott Hudson tried to interview Jeff Jarrett, who said he had no time for interviews. Jarrett started asking Callis about the masked man, then told Kid Kash he wanted Chris Vaughn to sign allegiance to him tonight "in his own blood".

Shawn Douglas, with Traci, vs. Elix Skipper. Skipper hit a lariat in the corner early, and a somersault mule kick. Shane tripped Skipper into the middle turnbuckle. Sandman was shown outside on his phone, trying to get in touch with Raven. Douglas gave Skipper a long vertical suplex, then turned it into a gourdbuster. Douglas hit a rolling reverse neck snap. Douglas put Skipper in a neck vice, then hit a TKO. Skipper was clutching at his neck. Douglas kicked at Skipper, but Skipper came back with a side kick. Traci grabbed Skipper's leg, and Skipper went after her, but that allowed Shane to hit a full nelson forward legsweep, then put Skipper in a full nelson style camel clutch. Skipper tapped out at the three minute mark. Winner: Shane Douglas. Post match, Shane wouldn't release the hold, so Low Ki ran in and attacked Douglas. Low Ki and Douglas fought on the floor, and Michael Shane came out and started fighting with Skipper. Christopher Daniels came in and ran off Michael Shane and Shane Douglas. The former members of XXX stared each other down. Daniels and Skipper shook hands, and Skipper and Low Ki shook hands, but Low Ki refused to shake Daniels' hand, and walked away.

Scott Hudson interviewed AJ Styles, who thanked the fans for voting him Mr. TNA. He promised to earn a NWA World Title match tonight, and said that "losing was not an option".

A video package on how Kid Kash was recruiting people for Jeff Jarrett was shown. Kash was shown in the back, annoyed that Don Harris laid him out last week, costing him a match with Chris Vaughn.

Kid Kash vs. Chris Vaughn. Kash came out and shoved around Tiny the timekeeper again, forcing him to sign a declaration that he was on Jarrett's side. Chris Vaughn ran out and attacked Kash to start their match. Vaughn dropkicked Kash and hit a springboard leg lariat for two. Kash came right back, hitting a double leg fisherman's style neckbreaker for two. Kash pulled Vaughn's T-Shirt over his head and chopped him repeatedly. Kash delivered a released back suplex for a two count. Kash slapped and trash talked Vaughn, but Vaughn responded with punches. Vaughn ran into a Kash boot, and Kash dropkicked Vaughn's legs out from under him for a two count. Kash hit a Hotshot on the turnbuckles, and rubbed Vaughn's face in the mat. Kash slugged Vaughn repeatedly in the head, and Vaughn started bleeding from the forehead. Kash missed a clothesline and Vaughn hit one of his own. Vaughn hit a back elbow and a neckbreaker, then a Quebrada moonsault for two. Vaughn missed a charge in the corner, but crotched Kash as he went to the top rope. Vaughn went for a superplex, but Kash hit him low. Kash hit some headbutts, then delivered a bodyslam while standing on the top rope. Kash hit the Moneymaker (double underhook piledriver) for the win at the seven minute mark. Winner: Kid Kash. Kash put a pen in Vaughn's hand and "signed" his name on the declaration. Kash also rubbed Vaughn's blood on the contract. Tiny the timekeeper ran in, and attacked Kash, unfortunately taking off his shirt while doing so. Kash couldn't slam Tiny, and Tiny speared Kash and started punching him. Kash recovered quickly, and started beating down Tiny. Don Harris ran in and attacked Kash, leading to the Red Shirts running in to attack Harris. America's Most Wanted ran in and attacked the Red Shirts. The heels were run off, as Harris & AMW checked on Vaughn.

Father James Mitchell's return from last week was recapped. Mitchell did a promo about how Raven hurt him, but didn't finish the job. He also talked about how Raven discarded the Gathering, and now they were with Mitchell. CM Punk (with Julio Dinero) talked about how Raven would now find nothing but "broken dreams".

Scott Hudson interviewed Raven, or so we thought, as "Raven" took off his hood, revealing James Mitchell. Mitchell said Raven is in hell and would not be here tonight, and that Sandman should back out of the scheduled tag match tonight. Punk and Dinero walked in, and told Sandman he could save himself tonight by backing out.

CM Punk & Julio Dinero, with Father James Mitchell, vs. Sandman, Singapore Canes on a Pole Match. Sandman did his usual beer drinking entrance through the crowd. Raven's music then played, but he didn't come out. Sandman fought off Punk and Dinero, two on one, tossing both men to the floor. Sandman tossed both men into the guardrails, then avalanched them against the steel. Sandman gave Punk a top rope FrankenSander, but was given a clothesline by Dinero. Dinero went for the cane, but Sandman shoved him off the top rope to the floor. Punk gave Sandman a Shining Wizard, and a running kick in the corner. Punk went for another, but Sandman moved and Punk ran into the buckles. Sandman went for a cane, but Dinero powerbombed him out of the corner. Dinero hit a STO variation, as Punk and Dinero took over. They hit a legdrop/backbreaker combo, then went and got the canes. Punk and Dinero took turns hitting cane shots, but Sandman came back, hitting Russian legsweeps on both men, then hitting both with cane shots. Mitchell got on the ring apron, distracting Sandman, and allowing Punk and Dinero to hit a double superkick for the pin at the five minute mark. Winners: CM Punk & Julio Dinero. Post-match, Punk and Dinero beat on Sandman with the canes until security made them leave.

Scott Hudson interviewed Erik Watts & Goldylocks. Watts said that Goldylocks needs to stay in the back so he can take care of business. Goldylocks didn't want to. Watts insisted that she stay in the back, so he could concentrate on the match. Goldylocks said Watts was breaking up with her. Watts said he wasn't. Goldylocks said she would not be ignored, and walked off. Watts said he needed to concentrate on winning. Hudson said "Like sand through the hourglass...."

Back in the ring, Sandman said that he never thought he would have to "deal with the Devil", but since he couldn't depend on Raven, he would have to take matters into his own hands. Sandman said that next week, he was going to bring Balls Mahoney to TNA.

Mike Tenay & Don West were talking about next week's show, when they were interrupted by Don Callis, who announced that Johnny Fairplay from Survivor would be coming to TNA. A video package on Fairplay was shown, calling him "the most hated man in America".

Scott Hudson interviewed Jeff Jarrett and Abyss, with Jarrett psyching up Abyss to take out Watts and Styles tonight.

Erik Watts & AJ Styles vs. Abyss vs. Jeff Jarrett. If Styles' team wins, he gets an NWA World Title shot. If Jarrett's team wins, Watts has to step down as NWA Director Of Authority. Styles immediately went at it on the floor, while Watts and Jarrett went at it in the ring. Watts teased the chokeslam, but Jarrett raked his eyes, so Watts clotheslined him to the floor instead. Styles and Abyss got in the ring, with Styles giving Abyss a rana after standing on his back, and a tornado DDT. Jarrett made the save, and it settled into a tag match, with Jarrett going at it with Styles. Styles and Watts tagged in and out, working over Jarrett. Jarrett came back with a dropkick, and put Styles in a sleeper. Abyss tagged in, but missed a charge in the corner and Styles hit a kick. Watts and Jarrett tagged in, with Watts cleaning house and chokeslamming Jarrett, but Abyss broke up the pin. Styles dropkicked Abyss from the ring, then dove on top of him with a somersault senton. Watts accidentally knocked down the referee. Jarrett grabbed the title belt and hit Watts. Jarrett covered Watts, and Abyss held Styles so he couldn't run in and hit him with it. The referee counted three, but Mike Tenay and Bill Behrens protested, telling the referee what had happened. The match was restarted, and Jarrett went after Tenay. El Leon showed up, and brawled through the crowd with Jarrett. Styles and Watts worked over Abyss, who kept kicking out of covers. Goldylocks came out and started arguing with Watts, then turned and hit Abyss with a low blow. Watts pulled Abyss throat first across the top rope, and Styles hit a springboard sunset flip to pin Abyss at the ten minute mark. Winners: AJ Styles & Erik Watts. Don Callis came out and protested, saying he would quit TNA if this decision wasn't overturned. Watts got on the mic and said if this decision was overturned, and Styles didn't get his title shot, he would quit. Jarrett got on the mic and said Callis was important to TNA, because with him went Jarrett, Kash and Johnny Fairplay. Jarrett said for that reason, the decision will be overturned, and the board will agree with Callis. The show ended with the announcers wondering if the match would be overturned or not.

Next Week:
- America's Most Wanted vs. Red Shirt Security to determine the number one contender to the NWA World Tag Team Championship.
- Sandman & Balls Mahoney vs. CM Punk & Julio Dinero.
- Elix Skipper & Christopher Daniels vs. Shane Douglas in a handicap match.
- Glen Gilberti & David Young vs. Simon Diamond & Johnny Swinger.

So is this Johnny Fairplay a wrestler or a manager?

I think he's gonna' wrestle.

I thought Russo wasn't booking NWA anymore? What the hell happened? I mean, obviously the "suprise announcement" was supposed to be Hogan and it seems to have fallen through, but this is the best replacement they could come up with? I find that incredibly hard to believe.

There is no way Johnny Fairplay is going to be a wrestler. The guy makes Spike Dudley look like a bodybuilder, for cripes' sake. Even considering the smaller stature of the X Division guys, Fairplay would be a joke.

Rob asks Dave and Ric if they want to go backstage to play Hungry Hungry Hippos and Flair and Batista immediately bail. Flair wants to be Green. Man, EVERYBODY wants to be green. Except the girl in the commercials. She wanted to be pink. That either means that the ad agency was sexist or that she was communist. Of course Hungry Hungry Hippos is a rather capitalist game isn’t it? No self respecting communist would play Hungry Hungry Hippos. Except Stalin. He LOVED Hungry Hungry Hippos. God, I’ve got no clue what the hell I’m rambling about anymore.-- Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking, Raw Satire writer extraordinaire

And TNA was showing such promise after last week's blockbuster show. One step forward, ten steps back with this Johnny Fairplay mess.

But some of the promise is still there. The XXX storyline is intriguing in that you have Elix Skipper trying to play peacemaker between rivals Chris Daniels and Low Ki.

Raven's feud with the Gathering could be a lot of fun if they let CM Punk REALLY let loose the way he does in Ring of Honor. I would have personally paired Jim Mitchell with Abyss and let CM Punk start feuding with Sandman (a falling star, yet still a team player willing to put up-and-comers over) in order to establish Punk's successful "straight edge" gimmick before moving on to a Raven feud. But the way things are unfolding here, it's looking like TNA's taking a pass on the "straight edge" gimmick for now, which is a shame. Even if TNA doesn't let Punk blossom on his own, however, they now have a fresh tag team to feud with AMW, should the need arise, which should ensure wrestling goodness for all.

If they're setting up for yet another Jarrett/Styles match, then they'd better think of something good. Another screwjob or another Jarrett win will help no one.

Has Jerry Lynn seemingly dropped off the face of the planet?

I'm excited about the upcoming TNA/AAA crossover. I'd love to see Chris Sabin, Low Ki, Chris Daniels, and Michael Shane take on four of AAA's best (including JUVY~!).

Yes, the promise is still there. But if TNA's throwing in all their chips with Johnny Fairplay, then they're in a lot of trouble.

Wait, what mess? I haven't seen any mess yet! Certainly not ten steps worth of mess!

Geez, if some guy from some high-rated TV show shows up and interferes or cuts a promo or, I don't know, does whatever he does, how does thst hurt? We don't even know what ROLE he's going to play, let alone if he'll be any GOOD at it. And I doubt that all, or even a majority, of their chips are going Fairplay's way.

In any case, it's almost certainly going to be better than, say, a boxing match between Screech and Tiny the Timekeeper.

Other than that, I agree with most of your post. I'm BEGGING Triple X to get back together. And the Americas X Cup should be great.

I was hoping to repress those memories, but you're right. Nothing can match the sheer absolute TORTURE of having to endure a boxing match between Screech and Tiny the Timekeeper.

But I don't think TNA would spend a whole show hyping a big surprise and then annoucne it as Johnny Fairplay only to have him come in and conduct a promo. I think they have bigger plans for him in hopes of hitting a "Mike Tyson" style home run and attracting an audience, but let's face it. That just isn't going to happen. Granted, it may not be the mess I'm making it out to be, but it won't bring in any kind of buyrate like TNA's hoping it will.

I'm telling you right now, though, if I see boxing gloves this Wednesday, that'll be the last $10 TNA sees from me in a long time.
