Russ (or is it Rusty?), Ffej, DrewDeuce, others...Let's discuss this Saturday's game...

I think Vandy finally might have a chance to take one at Rupp for a few reasons.

1. We match up well with Kentucky. Now I'm not saying we necessarily have more talent...just that our strengths seem to have been backcourt defense (especially at the 2 spot which Fitch plays), and frontcourt scoring (which although Kentucky is talented and physical, they aren't as BIG and INTIMIDATING as Auburn, or for that matter LSU or MSU). I think with the all the pressure perimeter defense UK plays, Terrell, Skuchas and co. should get some high percentage shots up without being molested by UK's pesky guards. And we've run LOTS of backdoor cuts this year...A big advantage against a pressure team.

2. We FINALLY played a close game and responded VERY well. Auburn overcame a big early deficit and actually LED in the last 5 minutes. We proceeded to score the final 11 points and win the game by 6.

3. And finally, EVERY ONE OF OUR PLAYERS REMEMBERS 106-44.

But then again it's Rupp Arena, and none of this really matters. We can't win there. I predict a 8 or so point win by UK. Please feel free to mock my sig cause it's only got a lifespan of two more days...

Vandy has a good chance at beating Kentucky because lets face it, we have no depth. I don't know how deep Vandy's bench is, but if the Tarheels were not in the same boat as we are bench wise, they would have beat us by 15 points easily.

My main gripe with UK this year is that always start the game strong and play with emotion the first 5 minutes or so, but then all the emotion seems to fade. They just go through the motions the rest of the game. The Louisville game is a prime example of strong start and a dull emotionless finish. At times they seem to play with no pride at all. I just hope Tubby lights a fire under their ass. But if ever there was a year for Vandy to win at Rupp-this is it.

If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

Our bench is as solid as there is in the SEC right now (not just according to me...Eddie Fogler and Wimp Sanderson have echoed this on tv). I noticed when you guys played UL that the Cardinals made 2 key runs...One near the end of both halves when UK's starters were possibly worn down. I hope we can take advantage of this as well.

Hey Chuck! (and it's Rusty)...

I think that the Vandy game will be a tight game, but I do expect the 'Cats to win in Rupp. I "expect" the 'Cats to win (I "expect" them to win every game) in Nashville, but I honestly think that is a game that Vandy could win. With no derision intended, I really hope Vandy finishes 2nd in the SEC East this year. I do think that the top 3 slots will be some combination of Florida, Vandy, and UK.

I'm not as frustrated as other 'Cat fans when it comes to our bench simply because I think that the talent is there. I don't (by any stretch of the imagination) feel that the talent is quite yet seasoned.

Barbour can bring defense off the bench when he is playing well. He had a lousy game against UNC, but Ravi Moss stepped up and lived the walk-on's dream of playing great in a big game. Woo (the 7'1" freshman) has been improving, but hasn't shown much the last 3 games, though I really expect him to be a solid contributor by the time March roles around. Cote' had a good game against UNC and that could help propel him to "contributor" status. Stockton has had some good minutes backing up Hawkins at the point. Carrier hasn't performed, period. I have a friend going to UK whose roommate is a manager for the 'Cats and hear that Carrier is AWESOME in practice, but he still needs to give us quality minutes subbing for Fitch in an actual GAME. I also feel that Sheray Thomas, Bobby Perry, and Shagari Alleyne will eventually become damn good players.

I couldn't agree more with Ffej. We've run out to strong leads in every game it seems, but then we go flat. I think that UK will win as long as it doesn't have multiple 5 minute scoring droughts. If UK has 2 or 3 of those droughts, I'm afraid the game belongs to Vandy; if UK doesn't have any drought longer than 2 minutes, UK will probably win by 20 or so; if they "only" have one of those droughts, they'll probably win by 5 to 10 points.

I really think that Kelenna Azubuike is the "X-factor" for the rest of the season. If Kaz will start being offensively aggressive while continuing to take good shots, he'll average nearly 20 per game in the SEC and the 'Cats will be VERY dangerous. If Kaz keeps on playing well (taking around 6 shots or so a game and scoring around 10 a game) but doesn't become more aggressive, the 'Cats will still be good, but not as potent.

Azubuike actually scares me more than anyone on the team...Hawkins, Daniels and Hayes all seem pretty consistent...but Azubuike is capable of EXPLODING and really giving Vandy trouble. Fitch is gonna get his points but he's REALLY gonna have to work for em this game...Jason Holwerda will have that assignment and he locked down Bracey Wright for the most part with mainly ball-denial defense. I hope J-Werd can frustrate Fitch like he did Wright.

I remember telling a friend in the first half of the Auburn game the other night when we were up 17..."I hope UK is watching this game and finding out that you can't pressure us!!" We were scoring on backdoors and crisp passes galore vs. Auburn's pressure D. Then the second half came and I quickly rescinded my original statement. Then I realized that UK's pressure D will be twice as suffocating. yikes.

I'm not really worried about our defense...I think we can hold you guys to around 65 or 70 or so...I just hope we can score more than 50...

I am in total agreement about our bench. They are young and inexperienced, which is why we aren't deep. I'm certainly not frustrated by any means because we all knew going into this year it was going to be like that. 2 years from now this group will be awesome. Allyene in particular I think will be a star by the time he is a junior. The other 7 footer, Obrutz, I am not sold on. He moves really fast for a big guy but thats about it. He reminds me of Mike Scott.

Mike Scott, what a blast from the past!

The big reason I'm up on Woo is because of what I've read on the KSR and Wildcat Faithful message boards. He supposedly played awesome this summer and even when Nazr Mohammed came back to Lexingto to play Woo played well with him. But, he is a European big man, so he's a more natural power forward than a center. If Shaggy develops, Woo can play the 4 and let his natural attributes take over. BUT, the frosh that really make me the happiest are Perry and Thomas. Those 2 will be STUDS one day.

You could say the same thing about my Gators bench. They gots ton of talent but very young, heck even our starters are young. I can kind of relate to the feeling of not being frustrating. We were ranked #1 at one point and lost two in a row, and while it sucked, it didn't upset me too much. I know by the end of the year we'll be much better and next year even better than that. Vandy's bench is really good and of course Freije can take over at anytime. That along with Kentucky and Florida both having inexperienced benches is going to make it interesting. If they can win the next three games, which I don't think is out of the question, they'll be in great shape. I just hope all three teams make good runs in the tournament. I say Vandy pulls off the upset by 3 this week.

I also wouldn't sleep on LSU over in the West, but who cares about the West right?

Well...good game Cats. It went just about as I expected it to. UK strong early in each half, Vandy strong late in each half. Daniels and Azubuike KILLED us. Freije having an off night didn't help either. Oh well...no time to pout about it. We go to Thompson Boiling Mausoleum on Wednesday.

Oh and I happen to think that MSU does NOT know what they're in for vs. the Cats. Their low SOS will hurt them. Cats by 12.

I have no idea if this was a good game or not. The game was on Fox Sports South, which we do not get up in my neck of the woods. We get Fox Sports Pittsburgh and Fox Sports Ohio, but no FSS. Go figure.

I'm probably going to have to turn in my big blue nation membership. I didn't even watch much of the game because of the NFL playoff games on tv.

With my beloved Seahawks playing later this year (causing me to miss the UK/UL game), and the birth of our daughter during the UK/UNC game, I haven't been able to get into College B-Ball mode yet. Of course, the first game I give some real attention to, they looked horrible (Georgia).

Best of luck to Vandy, except when they play the Cats of course!

Good for McGrady for actually standing up and saying something. It's about time someone in the NBA spoke out against all the hooligans who are dragging the name of the league and the sport through the mud.
