Im wondering if anyone on the board has any connections to the wrestling biz other than being a fan. Is anyone and indy wrestler or a small time promoter? I know WWF employees and Wrestlers for that matter lurk these boards. It only makes sense. Someone could be a WWF stage guy or production guy. If you are Im just curious. Now I know that anyone who answers yes to any of these questions will be met with sarcasm and skepticism. And I can understand if you dont wanto to respond. Thats cool too. But I know SOMEWHERE, somebody is a WWF employee or writer or something. Like for a while I thought Super Shane Spear was Shane Mcmahon(hey you never know!)...LOL. Ok Im joking. Seriously Does anyone have any connections to the biz?

To Shane: If I revealed your true identity Im sorry bro...lol

I live in Calgary...that's got to count for something.

Q: If you could have interviewed Marvin Gaye, where would you have proposed to meet and what would you have asked him?

A: I would have met anywhere as long as it was before his father shot him. I would have asked him, "Hey, don't you think there's some chance that your father might shoot you? To death, I mean?"

I once defeated my Ultimate Warrior wrestling buddy in a grueling Best of 7 series. Does that count?

My Dad used to beat on DDP in their high school wrestling team. I'm not sure if that counts or not since I can only assume DDP DOESN'T like my Dad, but then again, maybe that's not a bad thing, it could be a good thing!

I don't know if you'd call this a 'contact', but since ITVR Radio started, I've gotten in touch with Chris Yandek from 1wrestling.com who comes on the show all the time now - really nice guy, and it's pretty impressive to see all he's done considering he's so young. He in turn has put me in touch with former WCW star The Stro, who will now be appearing on ITVR Radio on March 19th. And lemme tell ya, I'm pretty damned excited about it! Stro is SUCH a nice guy and it's gonna be great to get his view on things.

My grandfather was good friends with J.R.'s father.

Since J.R.'s mom died, he hasn't had any real ties to the area where he grew up. It wasn't like he was always coming to visit, and after his mother died I think he didn't have any reason to. I believe his children still live around here though--I remember him mentioning that his daughter was attending graduate school at a local college so I imagine he gets together with them on occasion.
But I think the closest he gets is the occasional WWF swing through Tulsa. Supposedly he's had a lot of marriage problems--I think he's on his second or third marriage.

I remember my grandfather watching wrestling once in 1985 or so and being surprised to see "the Ross boy."

Well, I talked videogames with Booker T at the mall for about 40 minutes one day about 2 years ago. That really isn't a connection, more of a "Brush with Greatness".

Well its cool that some of you have met wrestlers or have a "six degrees of kevin bacon" relationship with someone I was more looking for someone that actually works in the wrestling biz in some way.

My uncle was a JTTS at MSG back in the late 70's and early 80's. He would show up in the afternoon when they were going over the card. If they needed an opening match jobber and guys recommended him he would get chosen. A couple of hours before he would go over the match with his opponent and talk about if he wanted to make any extra cash during the match.

I believe his pay was $50 for the match, $25 if he juiced, and $25 for each time he was thrown out of the ring. Not bad for the time. He also wrestled in a couple of New Jersey indies but never won a title. He was never really interested in making it big. To him, it was extra money when he was going through college.

Funny thing, Vince called him about coming back to wrestle in the early 90's but he turned it down.

You're in a desert, walking along in the sand when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise. It's crawling towards you. You reach down and flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over. But it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping.

Not yet - but my brother is going off to train under Bruce Hart this fall. He's accepted to the school, just needs to move out to Calgary and pony up the cash.

The day he has his first match, I can claim to be related to a wrestler - and start milking it for all it's worth.

I attended the Malenko Wrestling School in Tampa for a few months back in '94. Met Dean, and got stretched by Joe. Then summer ended and I headed back to school to prepare for senior year and the SAT and college and everything else. After I graduate college, (in a couple months), I'll get a bit of a "refresher course" at the Malenko school and try to work the indies in the South on the weekends while teaching elementary school to pay the bills. Hopefully there'll still be some room in the U.S. for a technical, submission-based style!

I spent a couple years working for a couple indy promotions in the Mid-Atlantic area, writing and editing their programs. I would occasionally be the ring boy and a few times got to be the timekeeper.

"The best reason for committing loathsome & detestable acts -and let's face it, I am considerably something of an expert in the field - is purely for their own sake. Monetary gain is all very well, but it dilutes the tastes of wickedness to a lower level that is obtainable by anyone will an overdeveloped sense of avarice. Isn't that the case about 80% of the night during most matches. The crowd pops huge for the stinkface, so should we scrap most wrestling and just have fat men rubbing the ass in other mens face because buh gawd it gets a POP bigger then most matches....
