If this was anyone other than Steve Irwin, I would be offended.

But you have seen this guy handle Crocs right? He's like some kind of Nature Ninja.

And let's keep in mind this is Australia. The Aussie wildlife is super deadly. You have to be raised pretty tough to be a bushman or something similar. Steve himself was probably raised the same way.

And the difference between Michael and Steve...I guarantee you if that croc attacked, Steve would have given his leg before that croc got near his kid.

If Michael would have dropped his kid, he would have just watched it fall...

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with Threep here... this was, after all, at his zoo, and from what I've seen of his show even when he's just doing a routine feeding he's got backup lurking all over the place. If something'd gone wrong there'd have been a swarm of be-shorted Aussies in there before Steve even had a chance to call ol' Murray a "naughty boy".

Now, if he'd been hanging on to the boy while he was out doing one of his trademark "dick around with a poisonous snake for five minutes" segments, THEN I'd be calling Child Welfare. :)

On his new ad for Australia Zoo he does have his new tiger cubs playing with his older kid (Bindi?). I'm pretty sure those kids are growing up to be just as nutty as Steve.

I'm having trouble getting upset about this for some reason. Yes, I think the guy is nuts and I wouldn't hire him to babysit, but the sense of genuine danger isn't really there. It's not like he's going to forget which hand has the baby and which hand has the chunk of raw meat for the croc. I assume.

Taking a kid for a car ride on the freeway is probably more hazardous, statistically speaking, than getting him within arm's length of a fat, overfed carnivore. People are used to cars, though, so they discount that risk every time they strap their tender offspring into the minivan.

Steve was raised this way, and I guess he wants to share that with his own children. He's one of the most safety-conscious guys around (except when it comes to his own personal safety), and if the kid's going to have him as his father, he's probably gonna have to get used to big scary animals early on. Okay, so maybe one month is a wee bit too early, but still...

Haha it's really funny because I thought I was alone with how I felt about this but reading you guys I see I'm not. All my instincts are saying I should be "outraged!!!" but this coming from Croc Hunter I just can't be... I think him playing keep away with a Cock and his baby is the same as us petting a dog with a baby near by, in his world anyways

I think you might be thinking of Michael Jackson here.

I'm appalled. The baby is one month old and he clearly hasn't got the neck support required at that age.

I really thought I would be in the minority here, but it seems I am not.

What you DON'T see in the picture is the support crew around the croc in case something does go wrong. And just like Steve said in his press conference- a croc is NOT a lion. Steve would practically have to hand the baby to the croc for it to get at it- it ISN'T like a lion that could move that far and high fast enough to actually have a shot at the baby.

And it isn't like he was dangling the baby over the open mouth of the Croc.

I have to think it is a matter of knowlege and experience here. I don't think anyone attacking Irwin for this knows anywhere near as much about the animal as he does- who exactly are they to say that what he did was more dangerous than he, an OBVIOUS expert in the behavior and abilities of the animal, is?

I mean, seriously, in order for that croc to get the baby, Steve would have to trip and fall, headfirst, towards the croc- ALL of the trained and professional handlers nearby would have to be asleep, and the croc would have to decide to ignore the bigger piece of meat in favor of the baby, who at that point would likely be COVERED completely by its mother who was also RIGHT THERE! The baby was practically as safe as it would be on the other side of a barrier.

People for a Perfect World strike again.

Now Jakko - there is a whole world of difference there. That move was just idiotic.

It's not much better here. I have had DirecTV since their second year in existence (WHILE working for TCI Cable and getting that for free I might add) and, aside from hockey season and wrestling, the television isn't on much.
