It's Sssssssmackdown!, from Fort Victory, Baghdad, Iraq. Merry Christmas (or, as you Canadians (and Brits) call it, the day before Boxing Day)...and a Fashion Report, too!

Some Pfc. sings the Star Spangled Banner. Cardboard signs! Tanks, and guns!

Vince, in black suit and black shirt, struts into the ring. He thanks the troops. Santa Clause, in, well, Santa gear, is out, carrying two sacks. He dispenses tshirts to the troops. Later, Vince punks-out Santa, who takes off the beard and hat to reveal he's Austin, who kickwhamstunners Vince! Drink some beer and thank the troops.

FOOTAGE! of the security briefing. What to do if a sniper attack starts.

FOOTAGE! of setting-up the ring.

WGTT, both in silver singlets with maroon trim, vs. the APA, both in black "APA" tights with cards, Bradshaw in flak jack and helmet, Farooq in black "APA" tshirt. Jimmy Korderas, in the blue shirt, referees. The crowd is firmly behind the APA. You can tell the play-by-play is overdubbed. Bradshaw with the Clothesline From Hell -> pin on Charlie. An average match.

In the back Austin, in black sleeveless "F*CK FEAR" tshirt, pumps-up Benoit. Meanwhile, it's Rikishi's Ass!

FOOTAGE! of troops on patrol.

Troop shout-outs.

Rikishi, in black manskirt with red dragon-star, "Rikishi" belt and thong, vs. Rhyno, in black "Rhyno" singlet. Hebner the Younger officiates. Blackhawk helicopters are on patrol. The production crew is pimped via chyron. Apparently, according to Cole, Tazz is wearing camo. Poor match (short). Post-match comes a stinkface and Rikishi dances with some lady troops.

FOOTAGE! of performers and troops mingling.

FOOTAGE! of the performers visiting Camp Anaconda.

Cena, in yellow "CITY" jersey (#24), backwards cap, lock 'n chain, and jean shorts, raps-out BigShow and pumps-up the troops. Man, the things Cena can get away with (to wit - he wants to give Torrie Wilson a pearl necklace).

In the back, Austin visits Eddie. Looks like Eddie couldn't get his lowrider through customs. Austin stirs-up shit between Eddie and Benoit.

Troop shout-outs. (Baby, your boyfriend is screwing around on you - but I'll treat you right.)

More FOOTAGE! from Camp Anaconda.

Eddie, in grey "Latino" tights with black/yellow flames, vs. Benoit, in red "Wolverine" tights with wolverine-head. Korderas is the ref. A feeling-out process to begin, leading to a technical wrestling bit. Eddie bails and puts on a flak jack, but Korderas orders him to take it off ("Hit the Ref" chant from the crowd); however, Eddie uses the flak to cheat and gain the advantage. Benoit quickly comes back, and they both spill outsiede. AdBreak travel internationally to interrupt!

Eddie vs. Benoit, cont. Benoit is in control. After back-and-forth, Benoit gets the crossface, but Eddie rolls to the ropes. Flying Headbutt, but Eddie rolls out of the way. Then Eddie goes up for the frogsplash, but Benoit rolls out of the way. Sunset flip, and feet on the ropes, and Eddie gets the pin. A good match. Post-match, Eddie dons the flak and a helmet, and shakes hands with Benoit.

Earlier tonight, the Vince/Santa bit.

Troop shout-outs.

Troop shout-outs.

Much FOOTAGE! of the performers and the troops.

Troop shout-outs.

FOOTAGE! of the performers at the shooting range. Seems like BigShow is a good shot.

Santa's Little Helper contest, starring Torrie Wilson (tossing candy), Dawn Marie-Wilson (whom Cole would hunt, were he the crocodile hunter and she the crocodile), and Sable. The helpers dance, and it's done by applause. The winner: Torrieberg. The real winner(s): Tony Chimmel (and the troops who needed stroke material).

FOOTAGE! of the performers visiting a hospital.

FOOTAGE! and troop shout-outs.

BigShow, in black one-strap singlet, the US Title slung over his shoulder, vs. Cena, in just his shorts, charging the ring. It's a non-title match. Hebner officiates. Ref-bump, and the crowd cheers. Cena with a low blow and chain-loaded punch, but BigShow kicks out (Hebner was still woozy). FU -> pin. Poor match (WAY too short). Post-match, Austin comes out. So does AdBreak.

Post-match cont. Kickwhamstunner on Cena. Kickwhamstunner (x2) on BigShow. Austin calls-out the ladies, who dutifully come out. Austin calls-out all the rest of the superstars, and they, too, come down the ramp. Another stunner on BigShow. Everyone else drinks beers.

Video package following the trip, with troop shots and news FOOTAGE! spliced in.

Overall: This was feel-good fun. You wouldn't have missed much, but if you watched you were entertained. I know it wasn't supposed to be funny, but all the mentions of "If we happen to take fire..." got to me.

In other news: Apparently, putting my hand in my new paper shredder MAY void the warranty.

Have a Merry Christmas, everyone!

Edit: Oh shit, I f'ed up the date in the tread title.

This really was a neat one-off show not only because WWE went over there and did it, but because it was a refreshing change from the Smackdown of late. It was also neat that they gave as much of the airtime as they did to the troops and the interaction with them.

As you would expect, Guerrerro and Benoit easily had the best match. Cena getting Show up over him did look pretty impressive though.

I can't believe Torrie worked the way she did in that almost-not-even-a-thong she was...wearing...

An enjoyable way to spend the evening.

Nice show. I taped the last hour and only saw bits and pieces, but I liked what I saw. If you were expecting some **** classics, you were disappointed. If you were expecting (like me) a few decent matches, video packages and overall fun atmosphere with the wrestlers interacting with the troops, you weren't disappointed.

His retro jersey tonight is a San Francisco Warriors circa 60s with the cable car and either Nate Thurmond or Rick Barry's number on the back.

For some perverse reason, I'm starting to root against Cena, or maybe I'm rooting for the Big Show. I'm getting tired of his raps already. I'm not really marking out for him getting the better of the Big Show; seemingly everyone has done that already. Hopefully his gimmick won't become a one-trick pony in the future.

I thought that it was a cool show ... no storylines involved at all really ... just a nice way to salute our troops ... I don't care how many times I've seen it, I still get a kick out of a Stunner on Vince.

I didn't see tonight's show but I did think the battle rap was rather lame on Cena's part. I mean he came out and made fun of Big Show's weight and said that he smells, ooo, wow. That's the best you can come up with?

I enjoy him for the most part but up until tonight Big Show was definitely looking better to me in this feud. Of course that also has something to do with the fact that they are actually using Big Show pretty wisely recently.

The best thing about this show was that it was one of those "out of character" shows that was actually positive and upbeat.

I stopped watching after the Eddy/Benoit match because my gal hadn't seen A Few Good Men and TBS was showing it. I enjoyed what I saw, and I tuned in initially just to see the troops enjoy themselves.

Speaking of that match, she pointed put that the turnbuckle/powerbomb spot may have been botched because of sand blowing on the ring. The mat did look more beige as the show went on. And I was concerned for Chris landing flat on his head in the bit where they tumble outside.

What I saw of the show was fun, and I applaud the WWE for doing it.

I wonder how the performers were chosen to go. Did Brock get the week off or were the guys in Iraq off that weekend's house show rotation?

Brock got his knee cleaned out. He's using the couple weeks off to heal.

-McMahon/Austin interviews- These surreal setups in interesting viewing. I didn't know exactly how it was going to take place, it's always an interesting visual seeing outdoor wrestling events... Santa Clause giving out WWE T-shirts, of course ALL OF THEM are black! Is wearing black a good idea in a very hot desert? McMahon has an issue with The Clause and pushes him down. But it's Austin Clause, who took of his padding but looks like Austin has some padding in him as well, early Christmas stuffing I guess and stuns McMahon.

-APA vs. Worlds Greatest Tagteam- Did Cole actually say "this place is going to explode" when Bradshaw gets the tag. Oooh Cole pick your words more appropriately. WGTT looked pretty good, APA did their normal hossness moveset.

-Rikishi vs. Rhyno- Rikishi went to sit on Rhyno, Rhyno moves last second *whew*. Rhyno charges into a Rikish side kick. Later on Samoan drop for the win. For two beefy guys I'm thinking it was a good idea to keep it under 3-minutes... Rikishi dances with some confused (and borderline scared) soldiers.

-Cena interview- Cena is giving a Pearl Necklace to Torrie, how does Billy (Kidman or Gunn) feel about that. He disses the French in not fighting, I can really go off but I'll keep my opinions in check.

-Eddie vs. Benoit- The Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker by Eddie got a "ohh" reaction from the troops. Eddie hides behind the ref, and the troops want Eddie to hit the authority figure (hmm there's some issues there LoL). They both fly over the top rope to the outside while some Ads do a run-in... They come back and don't bother editing out the missed spot on the powerbomb off the turnbuckle, they try to make it into a Eddie rollup. German suplex by Benoit goes to the top with a flying Headbutt but Eddie moves, Eddie goes with a frogsplash but Benoit moves. Sunset flip by Eddie who Cheats to Win with the feet on the ropes. Eddie comes back in full gear including a flak jacket and helmet. But they have forgiveness for eachother because as Eddie says "Hey we're in Iraq". They worked hard for those 12-minutes, they did a good showing.

-Torrie/Dawn/Sable contest- Smackdown sluts on parade comes out. What is with Vince's fascination of putting on really smutty and uncomfortable viewing during Holiday shows? How can I watch this with Grandma Slasher and Sister Hack!... Last years Raw version of Santa's Little Helper match was cute and fun. This years blew, which shows why one show I look forward to seeing the girls and others are talentless broads (even though I like Dawn err). I would say glorified strippers, but there's nothing glorified about these women. Dawn attacks Torrie, is she heel now or is this only overseas heel attack so much like America's politics, they ignore that and It doesn't count (Oh come on I've been good all recap LoL)

-Cena vs. BigShow- BigShow dominates the 4-minutes. Ref bump as the troops react (they sure do like seeing the authority figure getting knocked down). Low blow by Cena and the F-U for the win... Austin comes out and stuns both of them.

-WWE says Buh Bye- Austin calls out the gals and they come out all friendly now. Oh please Austin stun them, STUN THEM TO New Years!!! He calls out everyone else and gets some beers for them (but please skip Eddie, PLEASE)... A video package ends the show, showing highlights from the trip!

-OtherStuff- Benoit is a pimp. See Dawn sitting next to Benoit during a bus trip with Chris' arm over her head rest. The gals love sweet, shy and nice Benoit. Same reason Trish sat next to him during Raw X show... Austin stirs the pot between Benoit and Eddie... Lots of WWE superstars meeting troops and troops giving out the shout outs to home.

Line of the Night: Vince "Turn your fat ass around and get out of my ring" -towards Austin Clause
3Stars of the Night: 1)Benoit. 2)Eddie. 3)Haas.

Going in I knew what to expect so I braced myself for propaganda 3:16. And all in all it wasn't all that bad. The setting was cool, don't know if it's a good idea to do it every year... The only downer are the women, I guess it's good ummm visual for the troops but it's just lame to me.

Huh? If you were actually reading the post I wrote then you would see that I didn't comment on something I hadn't seen. I didn't say anything about last night's show which I didn't see. I said that in this feud up to this point, which I have seen, Big Show has been more impressive. So I don't know where in the world you're getting this from.

For what it was, I enjoyed it. More importantly, it seemed like the troops really enjoyed it, and they could probably use the distraction. Geez, I hate to sound like some overly patriotic American -- especially cause I'm not even American -- put they certainly deserve the entertainment.

WWE deserves whatever good PR they got from this. Even if that WAS the idea, it looked like it made a lot of people's Christmas.

Queezy, you're right. I didn't read your post the right way. I don't feel sorry but I apologize anyway.

I still don't know why you needed to comment LAST WEEK'S battle rap in THIS WEEK smackdown thread, though.

Even more shocking was the lack of Xanta Klaws. Now THERE was a heel.

Rob asks Dave and Ric if they want to go backstage to play Hungry Hungry Hippos and Flair and Batista immediately bail. Flair wants to be Green. Man, EVERYBODY wants to be green. Except the girl in the commercials. She wanted to be pink. That either means that the ad agency was sexist or that she was communist. Of course Hungry Hungry Hippos is a rather capitalist game isn’t it? No self respecting communist would play Hungry Hungry Hippos. Except Stalin. He LOVED Hungry Hungry Hippos. God, I’ve got no clue what the hell I’m rambling about anymore.-- Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking, Raw Satire writer extraordinaire

Iraq's probably too far from the South Pole.

This was a really neat show and you've got to give WWE props for taking such a big risk to boost soldier morale with this show. This wasn't meant to be a classic storyline-driven show, as it was more like a showcase for wrestling and characters. The result was a fun show that let us put aside our smark-ness for one night. (And it worked, because I haven't heard one complaint about Austin's stunner to Cena)

Ok, one nitpick: How could WWE go to Iraq without their number one babyface SPARKY PLUGG?? :P

Admit it. You laughed too when you found out Brock was feuding with Sparky Plugg.

I liked the show...it was really decent with some good action. It felt slightly cheap, though...they could have at least brought Kurt Angle along for the ride. Austin (and maybe the Rock) are the two most distinguished names on the WWE roster right now, so it's all good.

I feel as though this would have been a better show for the Raw roster. Imagine the crowd reaction for La Resistance? Oh, man...that would have rawked.

...and somewhere, Hulk Hogan's wondering if leaving was such a good idea; he would have been the most over competitor on the show if he still was Mr. America.
