Well... Chris Benoit will never EVER get another title shot (does that angle sound familiar?) so maybe he enters the Rumble and wins it so we get Benoit/Lesnar at WM20.
Here's an even scarier thought: Holly goes into the Rumble as World Champion. Would anyone else put it past Vince as a PR move to have the World Title moved on the Iraq episode of SD that airs on X-MAS? If that does occur, we officially have the Ron Garvin World Title Holder of this generation.
Maybe Vince is just trying to push Holly for his years of loyalty to the company ... isn't he one of the "company guys" (a la Bradshaw) that Vince just loves.
I love that idea of Benoit winning the Rumble ...
But I have this feeling that Angle will make his return and win the Rumble ... that's just my feeling.

Didn't Brock Lesnar win the Royal Rumble last year? Meaning that a Raw wrestler will probably win this year? I thought I heard that at one point. It would make sense since there's a SMackdown ppv between Rumble and WM and not a Raw one to have the Royal Rumble winner be a Raw guy so he can feud with the World Champion for a two month period.
The only way I'd agree to this is if it was a way to save Lesnar v. Cena for WrestleMania. However, I SERIOUSLY doubt that's the case, so I'll just say that this sucks.
Seriously. The guy is a dick in the ring, pisses off Brock Lesnar just because he's a "new guy", and gets a push out of it. Sheesh.
Hell, I'd rather they end the feud at the Royal Rumble and get rid of it now rather than have them still fighting into February, taking up time that could be used on whatever match Lesnar's going to have to build to for WM20.
Besides, if people get the PPV, it's pretty much to see the Royal Rumble match itself, which is the true main event of the PPV. The rest of the matches are for those on the bubble about ordering it anyways. Wisecracks about who would order based on this match aside, it gives Lesnar a nice PPV win heading towards WM20 so he doesn't look like a lame duck champ squashing guys with no buildup (which this match has already), and I'm sure there'll be 4 or so other matches with more heat to get people who weren't sure to order.
Lesnar/Holly isn't a big deal of a feud, so why not throw it on a PPV where the match won't be looked at as a big deal?

The Rumble match will main event Rumble anyway, so you might as well put a throw away match into the World title slot and not blow a possible big time match in the spot.
Brock won't be wrestling until the Rumble anyway (elbow and knee surgery), so this is as good a quick feud as any.
Wisconsin Badgers: 7-5 (Still waiting for bowl week...weee.)
Minnesota Vikings: 8-6 (Oh, come on. Seriously. We'd better beat Kansas City next week. Somebody put Moss' cellphone in the endzone.)
I cant believe they are putting Holly in the main event at Rumble considering the slapnuts has basically missed the last two years due to injury with his arm and neck, has never even put on a *** match in his career (well, maybe his match with Angle but that doesnt count because its Angle) and has NEVER really been over as a face.

I don't think that'll happen because of:
-- Brock's aforementioned injury troubles
-- The fact that the centerpiece of the Iraq show is likely going to be the Big Show/John Cena US title match (which, if they're using their half a brain, Cena will win decisively and cleanly).
If the WWF decided to use a Super Mario Brothers gimmick...
"Mah gawd, King! Garrison Cade just bounced a fireball toward Rene Dupree!" "And look, Mark Jindrak just jumped on top of Conway's head! I think he's out cold, JR!" "What're they up to now..where did that huge pipe come from?!" "They're going down in the pipe! They're..they're gone!" --Mike Sweetser
"Oh my god, JR. Cade just shrunk after he was hit by that chair!" "Here comes RVD, King. What's that he has in that bag?" "Are those Mushrooms, JR?" "Cade's eating the Mushrooms. BAH GAWD, KING! Cade just grew twice his size!" --Mr. Tuesday
So to sum up what seems to be the general thoughts of this thread...Benoit needs to win the Rumble as it's his only way to get another shot at the title. The rumble is the BIG main event, leaving the two world title matches to lesser spots on the card. So Brock needs some jobber jabrone to wipe the floor with. Enter Bob Holly...Sounds good to me.
"Mr. Simpson, shush! Disparaging the boot is a bootable offense".
So, if they're throwing this crap title match on the SD! side, who do we get for the World Title on Raw? HHH/HBK? They gotta throw us a bone with at least one decent title match.
I'd much rather see Lesnar/Holly at No Way Out, rather than on one of the major PPV's.

Except if you're planning on attending the show. I have no desire to see Holly/Lesnar. Benoit/Lesnar I'd be more than happy to pony up the dough for, though.

Someone already mentioned this, but having Lesnar/Holly on No Way Out would be a much worse idea than putting it on the Rumble. True, there's no way Holly should ever get a title shot at a major show, but at least that way it's hidden behind the Raw title match and the Rumble itself. Do you really think Lesnar/Holly could sell a PPV on it's own? No way!
Another thing they may be looking at is that with the RR, NWO, and WM all coming within about a ten week span that's three PPV world title matches (probably) that they'll have to put together. Unless they wanna run through all their top challengers in one quick shot, they'll need to have a filler one on there somewhere. Holly may not be that bad an idea if it means saving Cena's next title match (for example) for a time when it will matter rather than it just being another throwaway like Backlash was last year.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are built for the playoffs. Of course they are. What Leafs fans don't realize, though, is "built for the playoffs" is just GM-speak for "short on skill, kinda slow, and can't score over an 80 game season".

See, that's another problem. You have to go back to Summer Slam to see the last time the SD Title was defended on a PPV. You would think they'd want to put on a top-notch match to showcase the title (rather than "hiding" it), esp. if the the WWEgo title is going to be defended on the same show. It's almost like saying "HHH/HBK FOR THE TITLE!!!!!!! And, uhhhhh, oh yeah, Brock/Holly, too, but who cares about that title."

Assuming they have a RAW wrestler win the Royal Rumble, SmackDown will still need a way to determine who gets the title match at WrestleMania. Maybe they can set up a King of the Ring style tournament to determine the challenger at WrestleMania. They could have qualifying matches on the SmackDown shows leading up to No Way Out and then have either 8 or 4 wrestlers in King of the Ring style tournament which would headline No Way Out, allowing a Brock vs. Holly title match to happen without having to headline the show. Plus, whoever wins the tournament (preferably Benoit, Cena, or Eddy Guerrero) will have an automatic build for their title shot because they had to go through 2 or 3 top contenders to get that title shot.
Of course, if they want to set up Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg for WrestleMania, that type of thing would be useless unless someone other than Brock is the champion.

I dunno, I'd rather see Brock not have to carry a green load like John Cena. At least Hardcore can put on a good show in the ring, and the match will be intense. Whereas we'll probably get a slight upgrade on Cena/Lesnar from Backlash which was about as exciting as a best of Dennis Knight compilation tape.

We do need a druid, and you have definitely cast a level 5 charm spell on me. Alexa: In your dreams, douche-bag! Caped Boy: Douche-bags are hygienic products, I take that as a compliment. Thank you.
