Well, welcome to the first break of the season (the first of many, I'm sure). And, we're a third of the way through...damn, it's going fast. If they had gone to break last week, we would have the awesome cliffhanger to test our patience. But we end on this hour, which is the transitional episode, I guess, to the new story arc (it's also a cliffhanger if you count the teaser for the next episode).

You gotta feel for Palmer. He is the definition of integrity, working in a position that requires a little less scruples. He doesn't have tolerance for the politics and the bullshit associated with it, but the job requires that he does. He met and fell in love with someone who seemingly is the same way (assuming she's not Evil). But she found out what Wayne already knew, and what David *probably* already knew, but was afraid to admit - she's not the type that can deal with the games. I wonder if David realizes that there's only one type of woman that *could* be in his life - that could deal with the politics and games and bullshit - and that would be Sherry. If he does realize this, I wonder if it scares the shit out of him.

Meanwhile, you gotta wonder what the hell was going through Jack's head as he was pointing the gun to Chase's head. Maybe something like: "You stupid, stupid son of a bitch! Why did you follow me? You're going to blow my cover, and ruin this mission, and now I have to *kill* you. How dare you? You come to me on the day of the most important mission of my career and tell me you *love* my daughter? Now I have to put a bullet in your head and find a way to explain to my daughter that I had no other choice, assuming I make it out of here alive. And for the second time, she'll shut me out of her life. Fucking idiot!"

So, speaking of that teaser for the next episode...who's the second possible buyer? There are only a handful of people that could elicit that facial expression from Jack: Nina Meyers, Sherry Palmer (you never know), the Ghost of George Mason (tm Dr Unlikely) or the Ghost of Teri Bauer.

I love this show.

Judging from the rumors on AICN, I think the buyer is Nina Meyers. However,I'm not clear on some things. I know Nina got a presidential pardon, but I assumed it was made void b/c Nina did NOT deliver them the bomb. So did Nina go free or what? If she did go free, shouldn't she be like...kept under surveillance or something since she's a traitor to the country? I just find that odd.

Even if Nina wasn't officially pardoned, she still escaped. No one knows what happened to her after last season. And man, could Chase have fucked up the mission any worse than he did? I guess if he'd blown Jack's cover it would have been worse, but still. And now, we have three weeks to await the return of the Secret Evil Germans.

President Palmer agreed to honor their original agreement and let her go after Jack was still alive and Nina was taken back into custody. Nina was only held in custody until the bomb threat was over, then she was released.

While this lacked the "punch" of last week's twist, last night was a real turning point for Jack Bauer this season. We saw how far he was actually willing to go when he pulled the trigger on Chase. He's willing to go as far as Nina did.

I bet it is Nina who will be returning, and they perfectly set that up by showing just how much Jack Bauer is like Nina in this episode. From Cloudia's "You have no cause" speech, which mirrors Jack's speech to Nina last season to Jack willing to sacrifice his daughter's lover (Nina killing her ex-lover's wife) for the sake of keeping his cover. He is no different from the person that killed his wife. Except he's not evil and doesn't want to use the virus for... whatever Nina's organization wants it for.

My big question after last season, aside from why Max the German Yachtsman poisoned the President, is what exactly happened to Sherry Palmer? Nina, you could probably figure out, but did Sherry go to prison, did she defeat all of the charges against her for helping nab Kingsley or what?

It seemed as if they sort of opened the door for Sherry's return with Anne's exit, David realizing how much Sherry could handle his world. I bet she enters the story again very shortly. The question is how.

There seems to be a running theme this season with self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head. First the fun-filled game of Russian Roulette ("Kum soo mow!"), and now Anne's husband blowing his brains out. Self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head are this season's torture.

I couldn't believe the cops just let Ann walk away so quickly, especially since her fingerprints were all over the gun. Perhaps that's a plot point that will be dealt with later in the season.

Rob asks Dave and Ric if they want to go backstage to play Hungry Hungry Hippos and Flair and Batista immediately bail. Flair wants to be Green. Man, EVERYBODY wants to be green. Except the girl in the commercials. She wanted to be pink. That either means that the ad agency was sexist or that she was communist. Of course Hungry Hungry Hippos is a rather capitalist game isn’t it? No self respecting communist would play Hungry Hungry Hippos. Except Stalin. He LOVED Hungry Hungry Hippos. Yeah, it is a little strange that Ann wasn't considered as a suspect in the shooting. At least she called the police before she called Palmer. I can't believe I have to wait 3 weeks to find out who the new buyer is...Even though I never saw season 1 or 2 when they aired, I'm catching up on season 1 now and over half way through with it. Since I've read mad spoilers about how Nina was the big swerve from season 1, she is my number 1 choice for the second buyer.

As for the whole Michelle calling for Tony to step down, that's not that big of a deal. He really should be in the hospital anyway.

I'm really surprised that Chase lived. I guess since the guard died in the russian roullete scene a few weeks back, I tended to believe it could happen again. Well, hopefully next time Ramon decides to make Jack prove himself, the gun will be loaded.

Ahhh ... nothing like the upcoming 3 week break to leave us wanting more ...

I think the other buyer is Sherry Palmer. Makes sense as to why she could be.

And I thought the Jack was really going to kill Chase tonight ... that one had me going.
