I was worried b/c I have such a fond spot for the original in my heart. It was the first game I ever had for Game Boy and I played the crap out of it. Seriously, if you liked the first one, go pick this up.

I haven't really played enough of this yet to say how good it is (or isn't) but it took like 10 minutes just to get through all the intro text to where the actual action begins. By the time I got to where you actually *play* the game, I was already bored, saved it, quit and haven't went back.

1,2,3,7,10 ... I suppose I just like the older-style FF better...

Does Kingdom Hearts count as a FF game? I just picked that one up ($20, good deal) and expected a wackey Disney Game, and got some Final Fantasy characters added to the mix, and was quite surprised.

Let's see... I beat the original NES Final Fantasy, the US versions of II and III (IV and VI, if you must be anal about such things). I beat VII, IX and X - but I hated the magic system of VIII so much that, once the plotline started getting really stupid, I stopped playing without once looking back.

I also beat Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, much like everyone who's ever played it who doesn't have a severe learning disorder.

I need to finish Kingdom Hearts...

Is Kingdom Hearts a good game for someone who has never played an RPG before ever?

Tough to say, as I have just started the thing myself, but I would guess MAYBE- depends on how patient you are. The intro has been a bit confusing and slow (it is starting to come together though), but it does literally WALK you through combat and how to play. It is also 75% movie so-far too...

But for $20, sure. It is a cheap risk for an RPG newbie- though I think there are some 10 year old games that are probably better for the newcomer- those or any of the Zelda Games...

I've only beated FF7; and I detested the ending. I tried in vain to work through FF8, but the entire junctioning system was a load of BS and too complicated to boot. If anything, I saw what I wanted to in the game; the ballroom dance.

My thoughts EXACTLY...I've also beaten I, II, III, VII, IX, and X. I also LOATHED VIII.

I also just beat X-2 and got the normal (crappy) ending...I'm on my second time around but this time with the strategy guide.

It's not that I don't have patience, I drew and drew and drew spells from those bastards...I just didn't like it personally. Just a matter of opinion.

It's worth playing through VIII just to see the ending, though. It's easily the best ending for any game ever. The scene with Laguna at Raine's grave site where he flashes back to the night he gave her the ring is so beautiful. The facial expressions, the lighting, everything is so great.

Only ever completed 7 and 8, both of which I liked. I never understood why 8 got crapped on so much, though it did take much longer to get into than 7 which was pretty much instantly addictive.

There was something so much cooler about the summoning in 8 though, and the graphics were far less cartoonish.

Never managed to figure out all the puzzles at the end right enough. I swear that bloody latin picture in the castle, I must have tried every freakin combination under the sun and never got it. And in theory it should have been sooooo easy.

Same with that thing where you had to pull a rope or some such and then run somewhere within a time limit. Never figured it out.

I loaned it out soon after completing it though and have never been back so maybe if I were to look at it now I'd be able to see how stupid I probably was/am.

I'm an oldschool FF fan, and I've liked just about every one.

I didn't like 3j, 5j or 7. 8,9, and 10 get crapped on, but I enjoyed all of them. I couldn't stand 7, but I did play through ir a few times out of boredom. 9 was great, back to oldschool action. 8 was different, but once you got used to it, it was a good game.

Sad story, I played through 8, did everything, got every god damn card, etc. etc. for a 75+ hour save file at the end, and then one of my old roommates erased over it. I about killed him. Getting those cards throughout the entire game was such a pain in the ass.

Well, the Materia system made sense in FF7; it was something that someone could grasp easily and without fail. FF8's junctioning system takes forever and doesn't seem worth the effort, especially when a certain status is required by the time you need it, you don't have it.

Oh yeah, and the Summons? Geez for the first time, it was nice to see them come up, but after a number of times, it gets annoying to wait a the time it takes for them to load up.

If you're going to complain about FF8's summons (and rightfully so) you've got to mention FF7's final boss battle. It takes about 20-30 minutes IIRC to get to Sephiroth, and then during the battle he does some magic animation, I forget what it's called, but the animation for the spell has to take at least 5 minutes. The spell generally wipes out your whole party, to boot. Major buzz kill to get all the way to the end and die in one extremely long attack.

Heh, that's why you do all that damn work with the Chocobos to get the Knights of the Round summon materia. Sephiroth was no problem then.;)

Knights Of The Round? Where's that? How many long does ol' Sephie last with that on his butt?

First and second times I beat the games, I never bothered to go for the side quests, with exception of getting Yuffie, and Vincent. This time around, I might try to get the Gold Chocobo. :-)

You pretty much have to if you want KotR.

One particularly nasty side-boss gives you a Gold Chocobo as a reward when you beat him. Of course, you can't get KotR without a Gold Chocobo, and beating the side-boss in question is several orders of magnitude more difficult without KotR, so taking that shortcut doesn't work too well...

I-When it first came out in the US, it was my favorite game for a long time.
II & III- I have near- perfectly translated ROMs, so I know they're out there. If you liked V, play III- they're very similar. III is the most advanced 8-bit game I've ever seen.
IV- A classic.
V- Poor story but great gameplay.
VI-One of my top two FFs.
VII- Great game, got me back into video games after a long hiatus.
VIII- My other favorite. People seem to either love or hate this one. Easily the best story, and I like the junctioning system, as well as searching for materials to build new weapons instead of just picking up a better one at each town you come to.
IX- This was good, but the graphics were a step down from VIII. Ranks right in the middle.
X- Cheesy, shlocky crap. They dumbed Final fantasy down with this one, and it looks like that trend continues with X-2.
Tactics- Badass game.
Tactics Advance- Not so much.
Never beat any of the Gameboy FFs. I never had a Gameboy when they were new, and playing a black-and-white, 4-bit game is hard to do when my Gamecube is sitting across the room.

Right, the Knights of the round materia is in an invisible island in one corner of the world you can't see it on the map its called Round Island. The Ruby weapon if it is defeated it gives you a gold chocobo but you need the knight materia to beat it so its preety useless really. look up a ff guide if your stuck

I checked out a FF7 guide recently and I couldn't believe how much work was required to get the Gold Chocobo...but to make the game worth the $12 (canadian) I paid, I'll go for it.

Speaking of Final Fantasy, I found the original Final Fantasy (for the NES) in my basement; my roomates and I are debating putting it up on EBay.
