I meant to make a thread about this earlier, but with me missing so much of the season, I held off. Now that I've caught up (thanks to the magic of iMesh), it's time for me to post on Justice League - Season 2, before Cartoon Network hits us with the big 3-part season finale down the road.

Season 1 was good, but Season 2 has REALLY turned everything up a notch. The intense season opener with the ambiguities of Braniac attacking Darkseid's planet set the tone for an amazing season. A few brief high points:

-Characters have been SPOT ON! The opener paved the way with the personality clash, considering everyone's character was completely accurate. The big moment was the big argument during "The Secret Society." Love this aspect of the series so far.

-Batman will always RULE THE UNIVERSE and he's showing why this season. From his philisophical argument with his parallel self to the way he takes no shit from teammates (To Green Lantern: "Call me when it's important."), Batman has become an integral part of the team while still remaining his dark, loner self. It's amazing and Kevin Conroy can't be praised enough for his voice work.

-The Secret Society. Not what the comics had in mind, but who cares? The cream of the supervillain crop, moreso than last year's Injustice Gang. Clayface had me stoked, as he always struck me as the type of villain to take the fight to any superhero and Grodd proved that he's no joke. There was no dead weight on this team and I'd love to see them make a comeback (a definitely possibility, except for maybe the cynical Shade).

Those are just some of the big moments of the season, and there are actually so many more. But I'll leave it up to the rest of the Wieners to get their thoughts out there. One other thing, should be noted, though:

I'm very intrigued by Vandal Savage. His two episodes this season have been very well done, getting his origin story out there and then going where most shows haven't gone before: showing what would happen if a supervillain actually DID destroy the world! "Hereafter" was an amazing piece of work, as it showed a villain as I've never seen one before. "Hahahahaha! I beat the heroes and destroyed the world! I'm the only one left! I win! Hahahahaha...uh...wait...now what do I do?" Just awesome stuff and (as an aspiring creative writer) I can't put into words what a good piece of character work that episode was. Download this one or catch a rerun!

The comic books really need to get on the Clayface train. Here's a guy that could be a MAJOR Bat-villain, and yet is still tough enough in sheer power to give someone like Superman a challenge. I could also see him as a cool villain for a future Batman film, since they seem to be running short of them. It seems like the cartoons are the only place that gives Clay any play (rim shot).

Well, part of the problem is that in the comics, there are like 8 Clayfaces. All different people, with slightly different powers. Matt Hagan isn't even the first or most powerful Clayface. They would need to seriously tweak the character in the comics to put him in line with the cartoon. As far as this season of Justice League, well, the more Batman the better. This season's had a lot less Batman-less episodes. Secret Society was probably the best episode, but I enjoyed the Christmas episode they did last week, too. And I always get psyched when they have the Joker on.

I have also enjoyed the current season of Justice League very much. Clayface making an appearance was great, the Joker episode a few weeks ago was pretty good, although I'm not sure about the Hawkgirl/Green Lantern thing even if it is my least favorite Green Lantern. They also successfully made Solomon Grundy interesting in the episode about his origin. Very good stuff so far.

By the way, what is IMesh?

iMesh= another Kazaa-type downloading application.

Anyway, I agree, this season of Justice League has been fantastic! My favorite episode of the series thus far is "A Better World," with the alternate reality, more badass League-- elements of The Crime Syndicate, Squadron Supreme, Kingdom Come, and the Authority all rolled into one awesome episode--with an appearance by Doomsday! Great stuff.

Also, Superman's rendered a whole lot better this season. He's animated a lot better, and George Newbern's voice acting is a lot better too, much closer to Tim Daly's greatness from Superman: The Animated Series. The recent Hawkgirl/Green Lantern romance is a welcome addition as well, and I like that Wonder Woman is a lot less ditzy than she was in Season 1.

Actually there were four, but they gave the first one a gestalt of the other's powers and killed the rest off. Also, he showed back up in the comics "Hush," which was both a good and bad thing, I suppose.

Getting to JL . . . Yes this season has rocked. "Secret Society" and the Dr. Destiny 2-parter were my favorites and the absolute stinkers (that godawful Aquaman/Dr. fate/Grundy one with Cthulu) have been mericfully few and far between.

And the X-mas episode owned.

Here's hoping we get a season 3.

Wait a minute, when did they kill Clayface 3 (my favorite one, but who shouldn't have been called Clayface) and Lady Clay? Matt Hagen has been gone since Crisis on Infinite Earths, but last I checked Clayface 3 and Lady Clay had had a kid and some government agent kidnapped him or something, but I never heard of any of them dying...

This season of JL has been awesome, right down to Martian Manhunter eating Oreos.

If I'm remembering right, in a 4-parter in "Detective Comics" (Called "Mudpack," it's in the early #600s of the run) Clayface I killed Lady Clay and Clayface III and takes on aspects of their powers.

That may or may not have been retconned, however. (This all comes from my "Who's Who" collection) I defer to anyone with more recent information.

I liked that touch myself. I'm also ashamed of msyelf for forgetting the episode with the Squadron Supreme-esque league. The Batman vs. Batman scene was straight GOLD.

Now if only they could get clearance to do a REAL JLA/JSA team-up. . .

You know a season's good when you can't think of a single clunker in the bunch. I actually liked the Aquaman/Dr. Fate episode, as the second episode's fight scenes were well-done. And good lord, they actually revolved a serious emotional episode around SOLOMON GRUNDY of all people! That deserves recognition in itself!

And yes, the X-mas episode did indeed own. Superman trying to use his X-ray vision on his presents only to find lead wrapping was priceless!

You know, the Dr Fate/Aquaman/Grundy episode is actually an homage to the Defenders. (I've learned many things since reading Dwayne McDuffie's message board).

It's certainly interesting that you had two episodes where villains got redemption (Grundy and Savage) by the end of a show.

I was very lukewarm on the first show, but I don't think there was a bad episode in the 2nd season.

I checked it out last night, and I'm afraid that's wrong; none of the Clayfaces died in that storyline... Lady Clay and Clayface 3 took off to fall in love after the original tricked them into giving blood samples so he could get the powers of all 3... I'm down for them killing off all of them except #3 and bringing back Hagen though.

Wasn't Eclipso in this season of JL?

Oh, well. This is why I defer to people in the know. I could understand needing 3 Clayfaces, but Lady Clay was another one of those ideas that made me wonder about the mental state of the people working on "Outsiders."

Yeah, Eclipso was in this season but that story was so incomprehensible (and ironically enough played the same night as the "Masters of the Universe" toon rolled out the Snake Men) I felt kinda "eh" about it.

But it was another of those eps that made me happy that JL actually has the guts to have their villians actualy kill people, tho.
