FOOTAGE! from last week's Battle Royale, and the controversial finish.
No opening. It's time for Smackdown!, from San Jose, CA...and a Fashion Report, too!
Brock, in black undies with spine, carrying the WWE Title, is out to rile-up the crowd. To summarize - Brock is awesomelly vicious, but Cena and Benoit are cowardly losers; whoever Brock's opponent later tonight is, will tap.
Rikishi, in black red dragon-star manskirt and "Rikishi" belt, black tassled crack-riding undies thereunder, and Scotty2Hotty, in green tanktop and black pants, vs. Bashams, in black leather pants, He-man style vests, and masks, carrying the Tag Team Titles, with Shaniqua, in red latex bikini top and hotpants. Pre-match whipping ensues. Hebner officiates, in the blue shirt. The vests and masks come off for the match. Hebner sends Shaniqua to the back after she causes trouble on the outside. Basham switch stops the stinkface, but we do get the Worm. Rikishi gets the pin (oh, but it wasn't a title match). A nice match. Post-match, Shaniqua gets...angrier.
FOOTAGE! of Holly getting DQ'ed at Survivor Series, and the indeffinate suspension. In Heyman's office, Dawn, in black latex dress, acting all slutty (trying to be Sable?), Heyman's new secretary, takes a letter (or not).
Heyman, in brown sportscoat, shirt, and pants, with Jones and Morgan, shows FOOTAGE! of Shannon being abused for the past two weeks. Paul calls-out Shannon who, in black/red pants with silver diamands, with taped-up ribs, obliges.
Book BigShow vs. Shannon. So here comes the BigShow, in one-strap black singlet, the US Title on his shoulder. Jimmy Korderas is the ref. (Sign: "Where's Doink") Chokeslam for th epin. Squishy-squash.
Cena/Benoit Tale of the Tape.
In the back, Jamie tries to persuade blind Nidia to stay in the back during his match. She's a liability. Oh, but Jamie has an idea.
Justin Somebody is the ring announcer tonight, in black suit and purple shirt.
Sakoda, in black pants and black boots, with Tajiri, vs. Noble, in jean shorts, with Nidia, in black top, Daisy Dukes, huge shades, and cane. Mike SParks is the official. Noble uses Nidia as a weapon? Well, it gets the pin. An average match, a quiet crowd. Post-match, Noble lies about it and says it was one of Tajiri's guys who pushed her.
Cole, in grey sportscoat and yellow shirt, and Tazz, in black suit, white shirt, orange hanky, and blue tie, villanize Noble. And they show us more FOOTAGE! of of the Cena/Benoit elimination.
In the back, Josh interviews Cena. Benoit arrives to talk smack.
Cena, in white Packers #66 (Nitschke) jersey, backwards white cap, jean shorts, and lock 'n chain, rapping mutual respect for Benoit, but stating HE's still the better one, vs. Benoit, in red wolverine-headed "Wolverine" tights. Nick Patrick is the referee. FU for the pin (but Benoit's foot was on the rope). Post-match, Benoit protests; Hebner comes down to show the FOOTAGE! Nick Patrick then reverses his decision and says the match must continue. But first Adbreak does a run-in.
Cena vs. Benoit, cont. Woah - they don't bleep "God damnit"? Benoit really works the shoulder. BigShow runs down, but Cena runs him off. This allows Benoit to get the crossface locked in for the submission. A nice match. 4 Cena-Hands.
FOOTAGE! of what just happened. Oh, so THAT's how they start the Cena/BigShow feud.
In the back, Chavo pumps...rubber. Eddie comes by - Chavo says he wants to go out alone. Yep, Chavo is SO on drugs.
Shelton, in silver singlet with red trim, with Charlie, in same, vs. Chavo, in grey tights with yellow splats, his knee bandaged (to HIS music - you remember that, right?) and black bandana. Despite Chavo's wishes, Eddie drives out in a yellow/orange lowrider. Jimmy Korderas is the ref. Holy product placement - Eddie drinks YJStinger whilst reading the new Smackdown! Magazine. Eddie hits the frogsplash, and Chavo gets the pin. An average match. Play Eddie's music! Post-match, Chavo tells-off Eddie and walks away.
A video history of Brock Lesnar. So much FOOTAGE!
In the back, Josh interviews Benoit, who uses FOOTAGE! of his own - Brock tapping out at Survivor Series.
In the back, the FBI runs a betting racket for the SD! B-teamers (but not Shannon). What - ATrain bets on Benoit?
Brock Lensar, in same as before, wearing the WWE Title, vs. Benoit, in same as before. Hebner officiates. Brock is in control, but gets a bloody nose. (Thanks to Adbreak, who now reveals himself.)
Benoit vs. Lesnar, cont. Wow - Lesnar just gets slain on those steps! A ref bump; so, of course, that's when Benoit gets the crossface locked in and Brock taps. Lesnar hits a seriously F'ed-up F5, but it only gets two. Chairshot to Benoit's knee, and Brock gets an upside-down-knee-over-the-head-sit-on-the-guy submission hold. HOwever, Benoit passes-out before he taps. The referee calls the match and awards it to Brock. A good match.
Overall: A solid show. I may not like some of the over(under?)tones in the Chavo/Eddie story, but that's minor compared to the good things about that plot. I bet Brock will be seriously pissed next week that ATrain bet against him.
With the way they're building Benoit/Brock, I'm starting to get sooo convinced that this time it's for real, and this time's Benoit's gonna do it, which means I'm gonna be sooo pissed when it doesn't happen. I seriously believe that Benoit's gonna win the title at the Rumble. The match started a little slow, but was getting great towards the end. It'll be interesting to see what the two of them can do in a PPV match.

Who, Benoit and A-Train in a $10,000 on a pole match?
(edited by asteroidboy on 4.12.03 2117)
Speaking of Ape-Train, I got chills seeing the groundwork laid tonight for a potential face turn. He bet on Benoit. Team Lesnar'll probably have to punish him and then feud with him because of that.
Best SD in a while, all told. And dare I mention it, (for I shouldn't want to jinx) NO VINCE!
Dawn's butt-ugly, I don't care what anyone says.
I want them to bring in Paris Hilton, and then have Cena cut a freestyle on her without her knowledge.
What do you call Albert Einstein beatin' off? Give up? A stroke of genius!
Good matches all around. Interesting developments in the Chavo/Eddie and Noble/Nidia angles.
Though I was a little puzzled as to why if a ref came out to overturn a match earlier, they wouldn't do it later, in a CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH. Maybe because the first one just re-started the match and the second would've awarded Benoit the victory? My head hurts...
And with all his recent crazy bumping, what's the over/under on Shannon Moore ending up on the DL?
I don't see how Moore's Squash Across America could get him over as a crafty underdog. Especially since we just saw that with Zach.
I'm thinking he's gonna even the odds by hiring the APA to fight Jones/Morgan. I'd much rather he hire Rhyno, mind you, but I'm not sure how likely that is these days.

Either...
1. The referee who restarted Benoit/Cena (Brian Hebner) was the official for Lesnar/Benoit and they're trying to build different ref styles, or
2. There's nothing saying that, theoretically, Brock was only tapping because the ref was down. Theoretically, Brock would not have tapped if the ref was not down. Also, the ref missing something because he's stupid (Patrick) is different than the ref missing something because he's out (Hebner).
Either way I'm reading way too much into this.

If you looked at Nick Patrick after his botched call in the Cena-Benoit match, he was looking around like he made the wrong call and needed some help from the back. That's quite different than the ref missing a call because he was knocked out, as you said Gugs.
Yo, it's me, it's me, it's (points to self) P-A-B!
At least Nick Patrick didn't have another fast count again.
A very good Smackdown, though it pains my soul to see Eddie Guerrero languishing in the midcard week after week. As long as Benoit and Cena keep getting pushed, however, two outta three ain't bad.
Let's put this in the plainest terms possible: Darryl Strawberry has no business instructing anybody about anything. He has never done a thing in his life to warrant a position of guidance. Not on the field. Not off the field.-- David Vescey, si.com
I'd rather see Shannon getting tossed around like a ragdoll, for the simple reason that he will eventually be able to fight back. Shannon has a decent amount of muscle, easily enough skill, and all of his limbs intact. I hope they make him a gaint-killer. Eventaully to survive he will have to figure out a way to defeat the big men. Seeing the elf take those wicked bumps is fun, because he apparently is very good at not getting hurt. Watching the same happen to Zach Gowen was just disturbing.
BTW, ya'all remember Shannon vs. Zach. Wow. The things my elf can sell.
Don't all professional wrestlers have "more guts than brains" when it comes right down to it?
Cena really messed up his arm. Benoit whipped him in the ropes and went for the crossface, but something went wrong. Cena fell to the ground with his arm extended and landed on it. It looked like he strained it or hyperextended it(maybe his lat). He went to the corner immediately after the injury. It looked pretty bad, but it probably isn't since Chris worked on it pretty hardcore after that. He wouldn't be drop kicking it if something was really wrong. Just my take on the match.

I saw that, but I honestly thought that it was more of a case of them laying the groundwork for another Benoit/A-Train feud. Benoit now cost A-Train $10,000.
There's no way that A-Train will get face cheers... UNLESS he's the out they're going to use for having Shannon win a match against a big man (c'mon, it's VINCE. He'll never have a really small guy beat one of his prized Really Big Guys). I can see them turning Train face and sending him back to the tag ranks. And I'd favor it if it meant he'd start wearing a shirt and pants again.
A-Train established himself tonight as THE STUPIDEST MAN ALIVE.
All he had to do was run out to the ring and attack Benoit. Lesnar retains the strap, but Benoit gets the win, and A-Train collects $15,000 (3-to-2 odds, remember) for doing something he usually does for free.
I was really surprised that this didn't happen, because it seemed the only reason they'd have had A-Train bet on Benoit.

Hot damn, did that look painful or what? If this is a sign of the WWE's desire of a more "submission-based style," then I'm all for it.
YIKES! That move looks EXTREMELY painful! See? This is what you do with a big guy with an actual wrestling background. You have him toss guys around and then stretch them out like pretzels! I couldn't think of anything cooler and I think Brock may have set the new submission standard with that baby!
(edited by It's False on 5.12.03 0118)
Admit it. You laughed too when you found out Brock was feuding with Sparky Plugg.
-Lesner interview- Not necessary an exciting interview but short and to the point. Brock will make whoever he faces tap.
-Rikishi/Scotty2Hottie vs. Basham Brothers- Buh Gawd did Rikishi just sat full force on a Bashams head! That could NOT be fun
-BigShow vs. Moore- I really liked Heyman's interview on Shannon. "All my staff is saying, look at Shannon he gets a beating and comes back for more. Moore more Moore"... Big Show destroys Moore, Moore more Moore. By the Way BigShow is still the US Champ, and once again reassures me why monster guys like BigShow should not be secondary title champions. Because like he is now booked as a monster first and champion second. The title doesn't make him any more impressive and he doesn't help the title because it's all but forgotten around his big shoulder. Errr
-Noble vs. Sakoda- Noble was in control of the match but pushed Nidia into the ring and into Sakoda. That was.. different.
-Benoit vs. Cena- LoL @ Cena pumping up his sneakers. I liked how Tazz was mentioning how both want to finish the match quick to save energy for Lesner. It was a good match but not really outstanding. Benoit worked hard, Cena early on kinda undersells stuff but later in the match he got more into it and sold very well.
-Chavo vs. Benjamin- Very good match between the two, Benjamin really impresses me, nice stiff kick to the leg of Chavo. Chavo hits his satellite headscissors. Haas distracts the ref unintentionally as Eddie hits the frog splash to allow Chavo to win. But Chavo didn't want the help even though he quickly went for the pinfall win... Eddie outside was pretty funny throughout the match hehe
-Lesner vs. Benoit- Wow, excellent stuff. Brock lifting Benoit high over his head with a cradle suplex. Benoit trying and trying to pull Lesner down for the crossface each time inching closer in getting him down as the crowd stands waiting for it to be hooked on. Kicking out of the F5 put passing out to a move I've never seen before... Does this feud keep going or are they moving on to Bob Holly now? Ahhh
-OtherStuff- An heel administration not pursuing a woman's advances. How can that be! Just for the Heyman is already better then all the other Heel administration... Oh my you expect me to wait an entire week for a Cat and Sable musical performance, how can I wait. Actually it's pretty darn easy LoL
-Sign of the Night: "Nidia Can't see me"- That was kinda mean -Line of the Night: Heyman "All my staff is saying, look at Shannon he gets a beating and comes back for more. Moore more Moore" -3Stars of the Night: 1)Benoit. 2)Lesner. 3)Benjamin.
Real different feeling between the two hours. The first hour was a pretty lackluster hour, with the exception of Heyman who did a great inring and backstage promo nothing really interest me... Second hour was very solid. Starting off with a good Benoit/Cena match, building to a very good Chavo/Benjamin match and ending with an excellent main event.
Christmas is the one time of year when people of all religions come together to worship Jesus Christ.
I was sort of wondering why they didn't just put the US belt on Cena when Cena beat Big Show last week.....it'd give the poor guy SOMETHING to put in his Tale of the Tape slot.....
