So I was flipping through the channels and stopped on the Maury Povich show. It was an update-on-past-guests episode.
They showed a clip of a show from January 2003 with this little girl that had some kind of skin disease that made her breakout and itch nonstop. She said that she was ridiculed and such by her classmates. She was a wrestling fan and watched constantly. Goldberg came out and brought her a puppy.
Fast Forward to what appears to be recently. She was back and looking better thanks to some treatment the show helped provide for her. Goldberg came back (it listed him as WWE Champion and he was carrying the belt, so I'm guessing it was sometime after the September PPV.) and she had written him this letter about how he had instilled in her confidence to overcome things and how he was an inspiration. Now I'm not a super emoitonal guy, but the letter did tug at the ol' heartstrings. It even made Goldberg tear up, literally. He then presented to her a replica of his World Title belt. They also made mention that he keeps in touch with her on a regular basis.
Now I know that he's not an internet darling, but damn, you can't help but like a guy after a story like that. And I hope all of those assclowns that dog on wrestling, saying it's "stupid & fake blah blah" managed to catch that on TV as well.

It just goes to show that he's a human being just like the rest of us. People hear about his backstage attitude and watch his sometimes careless ringwork and decide to rip the guy a new one, but he's got a heart like anyone else, and he obviously does give a shit about people other than himself.
I guess what I'm getting at here is that we seem to focus only on the negative aspects of wrestlers here at the Wienerboard. There's a lot of quotes like "Oh, I fucking hate [WWE wrestler], he's so worthless, I wish Vince would fire him and hire [indy wrestler] instead," flying around (yes, I'm exaggerating. Mostly). So, it's nice to see stories like this occasionally to ground our opinions a little and show that there are people in wrestling that give a shit, whose names aren't Mick Foley. We don't have to like their ringwork or their effect on the shows we ostensibly love, but we should think twice before saying we HATE someone, or wish injury on them.
That's my warm and fuzzy post for the year. I must be getting soft in my old age.
Heck yeah. There are positive things about sports entertainment/pro wrestling, and IMO, Goldberg has always been one of those things. He's made mistakes, but you better believe his heart is with the business. He defended the honor of PW when Bas Rutten tried trash talking him at a pride event a few months back. Goldberg is awesome. (please give back his original music though Vince!)

That has to be the funniest line I've read all day!
What has me wondering is Goldberg's role in the Looney Tunes movie, and the lack of hype for it on WWE TV. Yeah, they had something about it on Confidential this week, but compaired to what they did with Rollerball and Edge's five minutes in Highlander: End Game, it wasn't really anything. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I plan to. Looks like fun.
Me ain't the drama type, but I'll give Goldie props too.
After a quarter of a century on this planet, there's three things I know for sure... 1)I'm smarter than I was a year ago. 2)WWE isn't. 3) I'd make a fine Mrs. HHH II. 1300 bitches and counting....
In his WCW days, he was a staunch animal protection advocate. He even testified in Washington before a subcommittee, if I remember right.
Speaking of wrestlers who ain't bastards, I haven't heard anything in a while for the annual shows to benefit the families of Brian Pillman and other wrestlers who died. Some were tribute shows. Some were fund-raisers. Does anyone know if these are continuing?

Well, he did make that comment about the WWF after the whole 9/11 thing, so he's not a saint or anything here.

I think I remember reading something awhile back that the Brian Pillman tribute shows ended because his wife got re-married, so she no longer needed the charity to help support herself..........but I might be thinking of someone else.

Goldberg/Looney Tunes update: Yahoo! Movies says that live action filming took place between July 29th & November 26, 2002. Since Goldberg wasn't under WWF contract (and the WWF gets no money as a result), there's no point in hyping a movie that he's in.
FLAMES: 9-8-0-2; 20pts: Must add Matt Lombardi, Steve Reinprecht & Mikka Kiprusoff to Christmas card list... SURVIVOR: PEARL ISLANDS: 7 Remain [Tijuana, Darrah, Jon, Christa, Sandra, Burton & Lillian] Alas poor Rupert, we'll see you in February. SMALLVILLE: "Shattered" (Episode 3-8) Wow. 10/10
Even though I can't stand Maury Povich show (South Park was pretty on course what I think of the show), but it's a nice gesture by Goldberg.
Yeah there are some cool people in that lockerroom and don't get enough credit in mainstream media AND even more disappointing the wrestling media... I know I've sent little media stories of someone in wrestling really going out of there way and volunteering for a charity organization on their own time and I send it to Meltzer with a link and it's just ignored. I guess it wasn't' important enough to make the same report as Brian Alverez needing a tape of Survivor Thursday
