So says Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com, as reported on the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN radio. Basically, he's going to get paid to do nothing for the rest of the season. He's not cut, or released, or waived...just, deactivated.
Just what I needed in the 20 team Wiener league. This hurts.
Here is the link to the story on ESPN.com, if anyone is interested.

I love this move. It keeps anyone with a big mouth (Sapp) on their heels from now on. The only notable thing Key has done in Tampa in his three years was the td in the NFC Championship game last year. Other than that he's been a possesion reciever w/3td's a year. Hopefully they can get some kind of offensive lineman for him in a trade this offseason.
I think this was pretty much inevitable. Jurevicius has shown he can be a starter and I think the fact that Gruden did it as soon as Jo-Jo was able to play says a lot. Bye Key, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Hear that, Warren? It ain't your team no more. It's Chucky's team. Play along, dude.
If the WWF decided to use a Super Mario Brothers gimmick...
"Mah gawd, King! Garrison Cade just bounced a fireball toward Rene Dupree!" "And look, Mark Jindrak just jumped on top of Conway's head! I think he's out cold, JR!" "What're they up to now..where did that huge pipe come from?!" "They're going down in the pipe! They're..they're gone!" --Mike Sweetser
"Oh my god, JR. Cade just shrunk after he was hit by that chair!" "Here comes RVD, King. What's that he has in that bag?" "Are those Mushrooms, JR?" "Cade's eating the Mushrooms. BAH GAWD, KING! Cade just grew twice his size!" --Mr. Tuesday
Good, that takes care of one of the most overrated Bucs in football. Do the same to Sapp and Tampa might be able to salvage something out of this season (though they'd almost have to run the board at this point to have a playoff hope).
Let's put this in the plainest terms possible: Darryl Strawberry has no business instructing anybody about anything. He has never done a thing in his life to warrant a position of guidance. Not on the field. Not off the field.-- David Vescey, si.com
Heh, I had to laugh watching Keyshawn being interviewed last night.
Interviewer: "So is there any truth to the rumours that you were going around the locker room this season telling anyone that would listen that you wouldn't be playing in Tampa next year?"
Keyshawn: "I wouldn't need to. When you've had a meeting with the General Manager...."
Interviewer: "So theres no truth in the rumours then?"
Keyshawn: "I'm saying I wouldn't need to go around...."
If the guy could pull moves like that on the football field theres no way he'd have been deactivated.
Its tough to see where he goes from here. If the Bucs are looking to trade then they're in a weak position trying to palm off a worthless (to them) player on a high salary.
That said, he does have talent and there's always someone out there who'll think he's worth the risk. Hell I'd trade him for any one of the WR's the Eagles have got just now.
They won't need to worry about trading him. The deadline for this season has long since passed and, at least according to the reports I've heard, part of the plan is to give him his release once the season is over.
As for where he'd go...as long as he's not doing drugs or killing people, a talented football player will always be able to find work in the NFL. After this incident his market value may be a bit down, but all that's going to do is have more teams calling his agent. Who knows, he may be a possible replacement for Terrell Owens in SF. If I had to guess that'd be my pick.
Keyshawn Johnson. What a fish. I remember all the hype when they brought him into Tampa, and how he was supposedly going to turn the offense into a high-powered machine with the potential for the long ball on every down. Whatever.
Keyshawn's entire career in Tampa could be summed up by: 10 catches per game for 6 yards each; one catch per game after the two-minute warning for a pickup of 12 yards; one good block per game; one tantrum per game; one TD per season.
Something I'll pass on that I don't think is exactly in good taste, but is illustrative of the attitude toward Sapp in Tampa:
There's a sports bar about 20 blocks south of Raymond James, where I go to watch the WWE PPVs. During Survivor Series, I stepped outside for a smoke and wound up chatting with several Bucs die-hards, wearing team jerseys (some of them had face paint) and chatting about the game they'd come from that night.
One guy was so frustrated he said, "You know, Sapp's sack total for the this year and last year combined is lower than the number of his illegitimate children."
Everyone laughed. No one defended him. It wasn't an all-white gathering, either. There were two hispanic girls and two black guys, and about four white guys there. One of the hispanic girls said, "Fuckin' Sapp."
The conversation switched to how much everyone wanted to slap Kenyatta Walker upside the head. I finished my cigarette and went back inside.
All I have to say is that I have a fantasy team with Keyshawn Johnson and William Green and Jeff Garcia. Can I officially declare that the biggest bust team in the history of fantasy sports? I really do not like football right now.
Toil not to gain wealth, cease to be concerned about it. Proverbs 23:4
I realize he's injured right now, but you gotta think that somewhere in New York City, Wayne Chrebet's probably thinking "Who's the flashlight now?!" Well, if he didn't have the concussion...

Try having three out of your first four draft picks be Michael Vick, William Green and Jeremy Shockey.
And yet by some act of God I'm 8-3 in my league. Go fig.
If Martha Stewart's obituary had a typo in it, would it read "Beloved Aunt"?
Man, FOX just continues to piss me off. All they need is to just let JB/Terry/Howie/Jimmy gab for 60 minutes and that's a great show. Instead they keep adding all of these bells, whistles, weather girls, cameo appearances from people on FOX shows and now this idiot Keyshawn. I wish Collinsworth was still on the show, so he would just mercilessly rip on Mr. Throw Me The Damn Ball for the entire show.

At least the FOX guys didn't just suck up to him Sunday. They took it to him.
