Well, first of all, the WCW name is for all intents and purposes dead. As for new matches on Excess. It could work but only if it were a show on the level of Raw or Smackdown. If it's just a two hour version of Heat, then I don;t think it'll get watched. Especally in its timeslot.
Well I'd like to see WCW/Alliance/AL WWF whatever...get it's own show, but I don't think it would be a major ratings grabber with that timeslot. Good for us wrestling fans, yes...but I don't think it would do much better than Excess is doing right now. That is, unless they get some high quality matches on it and move it to earlier in the night.
When the WWF first got their paws on WCW and the rumors were flying, speculation included Shane running the WCW company pretty much independently with their own show and a new edge. I was really looking forward to something like that (re: NOTHING like the old WCW, if anything more like the old ECW) and I would STILL look forward to something like that. As it is, this "split" idea they have, I think, is ultimately going to just confuse the product and ultimately suck.
Give Shane the Saturday slot, a minimal crew, and let them do something different. Let the WWF continue with its shows.
(Follow-up to Steph below...I know WCW name is officially gone, but they COULD change their minds...probably not...)
"WCW" as a name has been crushed out of existence, just like "XFL". They may choose another name for the other half of the split squad, but it will have to be something entirely new - and I doubt that Vince McMahon would use "Extreme" anywhere in the title.

Getting off topic here, but could I be seeing what I think I'm seeing? A female, same age as me, who likes wrestling, Capcom fighters, and bad 80's metal? Where have you been all my life???

I'm actually hoping and praying and crossing my fingers that with the return to Ted Turner in power over at Time/AOL, that maybe, just maybe he'll be able to convince someone to give one of these new feds popping up a two-hour timeslots.
I realize its a stupid pipe dream, but I crave something different and I know that this "split-crew" stuff the WWF is talking about is just going to suck.
Oh well...
I miss the days of WCW Saturday Night. The wrestling was ok -> good most of the time, at least in 1989-1994 era, before Hogan got involved. Even then it wasn't that bad, but it did start a downward slide.
I'd been saying for months that WCW wouldn't gets its own show in the midst of the whole Invasion angle, when a lot of people here thought that they would. But what do I know? I'm not on the WWF booking committee, I don't know what Vince thinks, and I don't even believe half the of the crap rumors that the internet throws out. Yeah WCW is definitely getting the RAW timeslot! They got it last August!

I'd just like to say that I agree whole-heartedly to what you just typed.
---=---:---=--- [Look up a line] Wow, that belt looks like crap... I'll take it and carry it around for years and see if people can take it away from me... What? What was that? You mean even THIS belt doesn't matter! What? I'm insulted! Get away from me you... you... defiler!
Benoit and Cena got a non-finish: double DQ, double pin, double count-out. . . something along those lines. Screwy stuff leading to a best-of-three or five or seven or whatever they have time for, leading to a title shot at the Royal Rumble.
