Has anyone here gone to watch a PPV at a movie theatre? I recently moved to a city where they do this, and was wondering about the experience.

Is the image quality any good, or does it look like TV blown up to movie screen size? What is the crowd like - loud/quiet, full/empty, anything else?

I'm trying to decide if this would be preferable to just watching Survivor Series at a bar.

Thx.

I pretty regularly go to the PPV's at a theater (theatre for our local readers) in Toronto. It's not bad.

The trick is to find a place that isn't overly crowded. Be prepared for tons of shouting and other general immaturity, but in that sense it's no different than being at an arena.

Picture and sound quality are pretty damn good. I have yet to have a bad experience on there on that front. Plus, if you arrive early, you have a pretty good shot at winning prizes such as shirts, video's and tickets to the next show.

I don't know where you live, Heat Miser, but if you're in the Toronto area, the Empress Walk theater is a pretty safe bet. Plus, WWE Canada President Carl DeMarco is usually there scamming a comp ticket, eating free food and kicking little kids out of their seats (I'm not joking).

Anyways, for the price, it's well worth it.

I could imagine doing that with some kids, but I would think a bar atmosphere would be preferable, no? Order some wings and beer, older crowd, etc etc.

Although the Famous Players seats would be a hell of a lot more comfortable. We used to watch PPVs at Applebee's in Scarborough and I was nursing back pain for the next couple of days.

I've done the bar thing as well (and probably once or twice at Applebee's after the AWF shows), but it isn't the same thing at all. For one, not all bars keep on the sound on, which can be frustrating to no end. Secondly, as you mentioned, the seats are much better.

It is mostly kids and teens there, but you know what? I'm 30 and still manage to fit in (probably because I'm immature)... anyways, just my personal preference.

You were at the AWF shows? Did you go to the ones at Cactus Pete's as well? I did a lot of volunteer work for them over the years(my best friend was Ms.B.Haven).

The only times I recall bars not having sound at their shows was because they were getting the show illegally. I remember Applebee's charged $5 so they could get a legit broadcast license(not sure exactly how it worked).

I only went once: SummerSlam 2002. I had a good time, but then again I picked a great show for my one theatre PPV experience.

These days I just watch PPVs at a dance bar/night club/pool hall that's 2 minutes from my place. Sometimes I'm able to watch them for free.

I think alot of Hooters shows the PPVS ... my buddies and I go and do that sometimes. but after sitting there for 3 hours you end up with $30 tab a piece, plus you have to deal with all the noise and can't hear most of the show ... we've found it's just better to all chip in and get it at someone's place if you have that option.

I have done the Hooters thing as well, but it seems that they don't show WWE PPV events anymore. I was told that it is an individual decision by the different franchises, but there are at least two Hooters (one in PA and one in NJ) that stopped showing them at the beginning of 2003. I also can't find any bars near me (Southern NJ) that show the WWE. It's actually frustrating. Speaking of which, I wonder if any Wieners know any bars in NJ or even in Philly that show PPVs. If so, could you perhaps PM me with the details. Thanks in advance.

Anyways, my best experience was watching KOTR 99 at the Delmar Fair. People from CA might know about the Delmar Fair, and one year they showed a WWE PPV. As most of you know, KOTR 99 was pretty pathetic, so it won't be a surprise to hear that it was much more fun to watch the other patrons' reactions to the show. They laughed and popped the loudest when Road Dogg outsmarted Chyna by wearing a cup. They of course deflated when Billy Gunn won the Kingship and when the McMahons won the ME. But for me, watching them was the greatest highlight of the night.

Molly, Stacy and Daffney all in WWE? I suddenly lost all my will to complain about anything regarding the WWE. Hope I don't lose my street cred for this.

Not sure if you have a "Buffalo Wild Wings" resturaunt near you, but I always go there to catch the PPV's. I like it there because they have 2 large screens (at least the one I go to anyway) and you can hear the PPV quite clearly, unlike at Hooters where I could never hear what was going on and they only showed the program on small televisions spread out through the resturaunt on the walls.

Sadly, there are no Buffalo Wild Wings(BW3) franchises in Canada. At least not the last time I checked. On one hand it's sad because their wings are the best I've ever had(and it's a great place for sports); on the other hand, I'm kind of glad there's none around because I would easily become THE FATTEST MAN ON EARTH.

Funny -- I actually knew the guy who was Ms. B. Haven at one of the early Cactus Pete's shows (I believe the main event was Abdullah vs. Iron Shiek). We had spoken briefly, anyways. Was going to do some writing for the company to help get them publicity, but that fell apart for whatever reason.

Anyways, yeah, I do remember going to at least one of those shows. My favorite part was the how the ceiling tiles would break whenever someone held their opponent too high above the ring! I have to go to one of those shows again one day soon....

Yes ... BWW is a much better place to watch the PPVs. I wasn't sure if that was just a Tennessee area franchise. The food there is actually better and, for the most part, cheaper than Hooters. And you can actually hear what's going on ... just no hot chicks in short shorts and tank tops; that's the drawback.

Been a while since the AWF has had a show and their website hasn't listed any upcoming cards. Anyone know if they plan to run any more this year?

You're old-fashioned. What you're saying makes sense in theory, but in fact people are continuing to care about Benoit despite clean losses to Angle.
