To the Rangers....David Eckstein and several pitchers, including maybe Jarrod Washburn

To Anaheim....Nomar Garciaparra

To Boston....Alex Fucking Rodriguez.

Under this deal, the Rangers would eat some of A-Rod's salary for 2004, but after that would be free and clear of the $252 million dollar boondoggle.

I usually don't get too excited over rumours, but this one is just so enormous that I had to post about it.

Pepa: Hello. I'm the mother of the notorious Crossroads Killer. When my son comes home after one of his famous crimes, his clothes are just filthy.
[Pepa holds up a bloody shirt. The police arrive.]
Policia I Spot: Where are the clothes your son wore -
Policia II Spot: At the time of the murder?
[Pepa takes a clean shirt out of the dryer.]
Pepa: Right here. Sparkling clean.
Policia I Spot: No trace of blood.
Policia II Spot: Or guts.
Policia I Spot: Unbelievable!
[Pepa holds up a box of detergent.]
Pepa: Ecce Homo. It's unbelievable.

-- from "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown"

I'm sick of Irish Americans, who haven't been home in twenty or thirty years, come up to me and tell me about the glory of the revolution. The glory of dying for the revolution. Fuck the revolution! Where's the glory in dragging a man from his bed and gunning him down in front of his wife and children? Where's the glory in that? Where's the glory in bombing old age pensioners as part of a remembrance day parade, their medals polished up for the day? Where's the glory in that? -- Bono, "Rattle & Hum"

Little Bill Daggett: You just shot an unarmed man!
Bill Munny: He should have armed himself if he's gonna decorate his saloon with my friend.

I'd drive No-Arm to the West Coast in order to make this deal occur. The benefits for Boston (and hell, thats the only team I care about that benefits): A shortstop who actually can field ground balls and throw the ball to 1st base, while at the same time being the best right-handed hitter in the American League, and he's locked up for several years and still in his 20's.

Why Pro Wrestling proves the INS cannot keep terrorists out of the United States: If a felon like Nathan Jones is allowed into the United States with no special skills (unless being totally inept in the ring counts, but I think there are enough totally inept people in the US to keep that skill from being unique or special), then how the hell can they justify keeping anyone else out?

As much as my newly-beloved Red Sox (ankles still sore from bandwagon jump, thank you) seem to be a live-by-the-bat, die-by-the-bat team, I dunno if more hitting is the answer. I'd rather see University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (Go Titans!) product Jarrod Washburn throw on the red and white.

God, I still feel bad for my roommate and his father; Boston-born and lifelong Sox fans...poor bastards...

Since your new on the bandwagon, here's the whole situation:

1) If they make the A-Rod move, I'll finally believe these owners aren't carpetbaggers and I'll let go of the fact that they destroyed the Padres (Werner) and didn't do much for the Marlins (Henry).

2) Contractual Situations: Ramirez is here until someone takes him. However: Lowe, Martinez, No-Arm, Varitek, Nixon and Mueller are all free agents after 2004. Millar, Damon and Wakefield are signed through '05. Ortiz is arbitration eligible this season.

Since they signed Martinez and No-Arm long term in the late 90's, its been accepted principle that the window of opportunity runs through this upcoming season. Since a brain dead simpleton screwed up this season (Timlin in 8th, Williamson in 9th, Timlin in 8th, Williamson in 9th), the window really appears to be closing rapidly. The last pitcher they developed who did something good for Boston (I'm excluding Clemens because the University of Texas developed him) was the Ojeda, Tudor, Hurst Troika that came up in '81. This is why our new hope is to trade for A-Rod, take someones crap contracts for Ramirez, and try to pick up a pitcher via free agency or trade.

As for live by the bat, die by the bat: Until they blow up Fenway, that will be the Red Sox philosophy. Has been since 1912.

Ah, is there still space on that bandwagon for one more?

As it is, I thought the Angels were going to make a play for Kaz Matsui, so would they even need Nomar?

Maybe if this goes through, A-Rod might finally start racking up MVP trophies....

Matsui has hinted he might take next season off to play for Japan in the Olympics, so that could take him off the market. No-Arm is from the area, so it could give them a local guy to market the team off of.
As for the Red Sox bandwagon, here are some of the conditions:
1) Must enjoy ulcers.
2) Must start screaming Abandon Ship after the first 2 game losing streak of spring training.
3) Must bitch and moan if we lose the Mayor's Cup to the Twins in Fort Myers.
4) Must have the ability to associate the Arsonist du jour with a past Red Sox arsonist. Example: Red Sox have 5 run lead going into the 9th, and Sauercrap is coming into the game. Must first mention this guy is the biggest stiff since Ken Ryan, and start figuring out the batting order for either the bottom of the 9th or the 10th inning for when the stiff blows the game, because you have no doubt they will blow the game.
5) Must enjoy aging 5 years for every month of the season.
6) Still wonder what could have been if Carlos Quintana hadn't rammed his car into a bridge in Venezuela before the '92 season.
7) Ponder what the hell happened to El Guapo.
8) Consider blinding migraines a pleasant diversion.
9) Believe Dick Radatz should still be the closer.
10) Accept that Curse talk is bullshit, and it was Schiraldi and Gedman to blame for Game 6 in '86.

You call yourself a Red Sox fan, and yet you left out Oil Can Boyd...for SHAME.

I think you forgot:

11) Parrot everything those talk radio idiots say.

I can see why CRZ threatened to ban you for the "Disappointment" stuff. The "No-Arm" thing is juvenile, idiotic, and annoying. It's not even accurate. Nomar has the best arm of any position player on the team, and maybe best overall (Scott Williamson could be better). His throws tend to sail a bit and wind up in the dugout occasionally, but on the whole his range to his right and his exceptional throwing arm make him at least an average defender.

Only in Boston could people not get behind Nomar Garciaparra. He's the second best shortstop in major league baseball, right behind A-Rod. Up until the injury he was actually a better hitter than Alex Rodriguez. Check out the numbers, he had a higher OPS every season. Who else is close? Tejada? OBP is too low. Jeter? Worst defensive shortstop in baseball. Renteria? Maybe if he pulls together another few seasons like this one. Nomar's head and shoulders above the pack, but the loudmouths on WEEI and their sheep (represented here by redsoxnation) want to run the poor guy out of town. And you wonder why he seems pissed off when he has to deal with the media.

All that said, of course I'd like to see the Red Sox swap Nomar for A-Rod. It's not because I think A-Rod's the best right handed hitter in the league (he's not, Manny is), but because at this point in their respective careers, A-Rod's superior to Nomar in pretty much every way. Unfortunately, that can't happen if Manny's $20 million a year is still on the books. Trading for bad contracts or paying a chunk of it to move him won't work either, since it's basically a wash money-wise. Unless something funny happens to Jeff Moorad and Ramirez agrees to rework his deal, nothing's going to come from the trade rumors.

@JPosnanski 24 pitchers since 1919 w/multiple no-nos. Six are in Hall, two more will go. Verlander at 29 in rare air. He will throw more.
