Since I'm really bored, I decided to go to WhatIFSports.Com and see what might have happened had the Cubs and Red Sox played each other in the World Series:
Game 1: Mark Prior VS Pedro Martinez
Both pitchers started strong until the Sox ripped off 5 runs in the bottom of the third. Nomar Garciaparra drove in Johnny Damon with a double to score the first run, and then scored on a Bill Mueller single. After Ramirez was hit by a pitch and Kevin Millar struck out, Todd Walker hit a two-run triple, and Prior was replaced by Kyle Farnsworth. Trot Nixon hit a single score the fifth run.
It stayed that way until the top of the eighth, when Corey Patterson drove in Alex Gonzalez with a double. The Cubs tried to continue their rally in the ninth, as Grudzielanek doubled to lead off the inning, and Martinez was finally replaced by Scott Sauerbeck. After giving up a single to Sosa, Sauerbeck got Ramirez and Alou to fly out, but gave up an RBI ground rule double to Randall Simon. However, Sauerbeck got Alex Gonzalez to strike out to end the game.
Final Score: Red Sox 5, Cubs 2
Game 2: Kerry Wood VS Tim Wakefield
The Red Sox started quickly, as Bill Mueller hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the first, giving the Sox a 1-0 lead.
The Sox extended their lead in the fourth with a Todd Walker RBI single, and they lead 2-0.
Sammy Sosa got the the Cubs on the board with an RBI single in the sixth, cutting the lead to 2-1.
Wood walked in a run at the bottom of the sixth, giving the Sox a 3-1 lead, and that would be his last inning.
Boston exploded in the eight, as Todd Walker scored on a groundout by Jason Veritek, and then David Ortiz blasted a three-run homerun to put the Sox in front 7-1, which would be the final.
Final Score: Red Sox 7, Cubs 1
Game 3: Derek Lowe VS Carlos Zambrano
Both pitcher had great games, as the only runs were scored on a Nomar Garciaparra three-run homer in the top of the third.
Final Score: Red Sox 3, Cubs 0
Game 4: John Burkett VS Matt Clement
The Cubs needed a solid effort by Clement to extend the series. The didn't get it.
Johnny Damon scored on a Manny Ramirez flyout in the first, beginning the scoring.
With the bases loaded in the second, Nomar Garciaparra came through, hitting a two-run single to give the Sox a 3-0 lead.
It got worse for the Cubs in the third, as Trot Nixon hit a two-run homer to make it 5-0.
The Sox continued to pour it on the fourth, as Mueller hit an RBI single to finally drive out Clement, and Kevin Millar hit and RBI single to make it 7-0.
With only 2 hits and down 7-0 in the eight, Cubs manager Dust Baker made a drastic move, as he replaced Grudzielanek, Simon, Gonzalez, Miller, Alou, and Sosa.
The move didn't pay off, as the Sox would score two more in the inning on a 2 RBI single by Bill Mueller, making it 9-0.
Johnny Damon hit an RBI single in the ninth to make it 10-0, and Todd Jones replaced Burkett and got the Cubs to 1-2-3 in the ninth to finish the sweep, sending the entire city of Boston in a frenzy, and Cubs fans to say "wait 'till next year".
Final Score: Red Sox 10, Cubs 0
You think WWE now is bad? Some of us had to live through 1993-1996!
Yay! We win an entirely fake World Series with an optimistically rested Pedro and a lineup in apparent shambles!
Seriously, so what? You could probably rig this thing to have the Broncos win with Danny Kanell at QB tonight.
Though, it would probably be true that the greatest WS matchup of all time be decided in the worst WS of all time; a 4-0 sweep with none of the games even close. Oy.
Josh Beckett is God. If you don't believe me, ask the Yankees (or what's left of them after Georgie Porgie goes nuts).
Grady is an idiot. Now, that the obvious has been stated, if he had tried to close out Game 1 of the World Series at home with Sauercrap, the Boston Police would have had to call in the National Guard for assistance in order to restrain all the people trying to get at Grady for monumental stupidity. And Burkett pitching a shutout? That defies all 1st inning Burkett logic. I could though see Dusty making some of the moves he's credited with making in Game 4; except for Grudzielanek and Miller, due to it being a night game in Chicago in October, thus cold weather would cause Dusty to be managing off his game. At least that's what Dusty's mother would be teaching.
Why Pro Wrestling proves the INS cannot keep terrorists out of the United States: If a felon like Nathan Jones is allowed into the United States with no special skills (unless being totally inept in the ring counts, but I think there are enough totally inept people in the US to keep that skill from being unique or special), then how the hell can they justify keeping anyone else out?
Shh...what's that?? The sound of TV's in America turning off?
"You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon. Need I say more?"

We're allowed. Is just a little harmless thread.
Besides... didn't the Yankees... uhm... lose as well?
It's just sad watching everyone try to pretend the Red Sox and Cubs didn't choke. I can see them telling their kids about THIS World Series, not the real one.
And what are you going to tell your kids about this World Series? That Pettite got outpitched by a 23 year old? That the Marlins went into the House That Ruth Built and ripped it down? That even with an estimated 180 million dollar payroll, the might Yankees fell to recent expansion team from Miami? Get over yourself and your team. Everyone (outside of Yankee fans and Yankee haters) wanted to see the Cubs and the Sox play in the World Series. It would have been great for baseball. Ratings would have been through the roof to see which team would end their "curse" first. Yes, both teams choked. Yes, it's their fault that they didn't go to the World Series. But it's not as if those two teams are in the playoffs, with a real chance to win, every single year. It most likely won't happen again for another 50 years, if ever. So that's why people like the create alternate scenarios involving the World Series that the majority of the baseball viewing public wanted.

Says the fan whose team lost the series anyway....
I hope you don't play fantasy baseball; after all, it's much the same. You take your own team - it's yours to do with as you please. You get behind it, will your team to victory (or a 14th place finish).
It's similar with this; it's just using our mind and collective will to imagine a "what if?" situation. It's not like you'll actually manage all those people - at the heart of it, you're a fan. People tried - unsuccessfully - to will the Red Sox and the Cubs to the Series in the same year. Tell me how often this'll happen in the future. Personally, it's fine with me that they didn't make it - a bit disappointing, but fine nonetheless. If someone wants to think "what if?", who am I to tell them "sorry, no imagination in these parts?"
Oh - and if my kids/grandkids ask me about this year, I'll tell them what happened - we almost had a dream Series. We didn't, but it was there. (Aren't tales of almost doing it a rite of initiation for Red Sox fans, anyway?)
Then the Yankees got hammered in their own park to lose the Series. I'll take that and be happy with it. My kids will know what might have been and what was.
What's funny is, I'm a Braves fan (shut up), and only after they were eliminated did I want to see this, mostly so one fan base can finally stop bitching, and the others can have their hopes and dreams cruelly destroyed at the last moment.
I did this because I was bored as hell, no other real reason.

Well, while it's possible that this is the first time Palmeiro has used steroids and therefore he didn't perjure himself, first off he should have known better than to do it this time, considering he's under considerably more scrutiny than most other base...
