Today on the Sharon Osbourne show, Steve Austin and the host wrestled in a make-shift ring, leaving Stone Cold winded for the length of his interview.
There was a piece of breaking news coming out of the interview: Austin admitted that he was indeed training to get back into shape, and it's "50/50" that he will make a WWE in-ring return, most likely at Wrestlemania XX.
Isn't this guy like 1 bump away from paralysis? Although I guess a match with Hogan would be so low impact, he could probably get through it with no trouble. I'm just sick of wrestlers saying "I'm retiring." and then coming back.
By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."
Austin is one bad bump away from paralysis. Same with Michaels. If not for the botched Tombstone or the chokeslam on a casket, both would sitll be fine.
I'd love to see Austin come back for a match, though I'm not sure why he wrestled Sharon Osbourne. That kind of crap is only slightly less dangerous than a triple threat match with Nathan Jones and John Heidenwhosy.
Josh Beckett is God. If you don't believe me, ask the Yankees (or what's left of them after Georgie Porgie goes nuts).
Tommy Dreamer ain't exactly the picture of a well-maintained musculoskeletal system, either, and he seems to be doing okay. Actually, I'm kinda happy to hear this -- one of the most annoying things about Stone Cold's current role is that he no longer has to back up what he does in the ring, and if he can wrestle an actual match or two, it'd go a long way toward me finding him more tolerable.
"I do have a degree in electrical engineering... from almost 20 years ago. Punchcard systems were just becoming obsolete, we had rotary phones in the dorms, and a modem was still a gizmo the size of a shoebox into which you squooshed the phone receiver itself. In short, we lived like animals.
The instant obsolesence is why I became a writer. The rate of punctuation in a sentence doesn't double every 18 friggin' months, and you never have some 22-year-old looming over your shoulder, shaking his head, saying "dude... you're still using adverbs...?"
One would think he'd be wrestling Chris Jericho at WrestleMania XX but who knows with WWE.
I'd like it to be Jericho because it gurantees that it'll be a good match and it limits Austin's chance of further injury.
I figure that WrestleMania XX will cause many heads to explode on this board with all the young talent left off the card in favor of Austin, Rock, The McMahons and possibly Hogan.
Edit: Just a thought since Foley made noise about wanting to possibly wrestle again at Mania, I say reprise the Rock'n'Sock Connection for one night. I dunno who'd they face, depends whether you want a comedy or a serious match, either would work.

Just think- if you wrestled 10-15 years, 250 days a year, on the road all the time, I think it would be hard for ANYONE to stop just like that. It's like a lot of football coaches say- it's in their blood- they don't know any other way.

And if you add the constant training that this heavy weight men must do every single day... you got another reason to think why they keep in contact with wrestling...
And the money factor its an important thing too.. most of the wrestlers finish their careers completly broken...

If Austin thinks he can go, he can go. He's wrestled before with a bad neck, in those garbagey style matches in 1997. If it's kept to a 10-minute special (or maybe a tag match) he'll probably be ok.

Austin's injury has never been as bad a Bischoff made out when he 'fired' him after Wrestlemania XIX or he wouldn't has been giving out Stunners like no-ones business, or have taken a Chokeslam off Kane. I think its has always been in the pipeline for him to face somebody at Wrestlemania and the Co-GM role lets him stay fresh in the fans minds, let his neck heal to some extent and gives him plenty of airtime to develop a feud for WMXX (with Jericho?)
You'd think that his team will lose at SurSer, so that he can vanish for a while and then come back as a fighting competitor for Mania. Which makes me happy, as I have no desire to see Rampant Physical-Provokation-Free Austin beating the shit out of every heel on Raw.

Good point - all wrestlers are only one bump away from paralysis. It's a calculated risk. Shawn has survived this far, and you would never know that he had suffered a bad injury.
Consider - if a normal man had suffered the same back injury, what shape would he be in now? Not good - if he did not force his body to work. It isn't just the physical toughness that all wrestlers develope. If you stop using your body because you have a bad back, you will always have a bad back. If you slowly but steadely push your body to improve - maybe you end able to do everything we've seen in the past 15 months.
If wrestlers can recover from broken necks, decimated backs, and so many other types of damage, then surely a single broken finger wouldn't stop my from fencing just as well as before. And it doesn't.
And if you think that its fake try to receive a chokeslam, a sweet chin music or a spear without scream or drop a tear..

I'm not sure which is funnier: the visual of Sharon Osbourne taking Stone Cold up for a powerbomb, or the behind-the-scenes footage of the Matrix-level special effects required for Sharon Osbourne to take Stone Cold up for a powerbomb.
In fact, the most peril Steve was in was when Sharon put her foot in his crotch, & he realised that it hadn't occurred to him to wear a cup. :-) The whole thing was actually really cute -- he was cutting a promo on her to open the show, she came down in a mask & cape & promo'd right back at him, she thwapped him with the leather gloves she was carrying, he said something about getting horny, & they just playfully wrestled around in this mini-ring they had set up. He got about 15 minutes total, & a lot more interaction with the host than I've ever seen any other host give a wrestler on a chat show.
I'd like for him to stay out of the ring. And not just because I hate him. Shawn took 4 years off, let's not forget. Austin's neck is pretty bad and he's just about at the end of his rope (the spinal fusion stuff isn't good over the long-term).
For once, he did the right thing. He put over the guy who made him look like a million bucks a million times over, the Rock, clean in the middle on a Wrestlemania card in front of a stadium crowd. It's the perfect note to end on. Though I can understand it's his decision, I don't think this is a good one.
What do you call Albert Einstein beatin' off? Give up? A stroke of genius!
Your point is well taken -- nobody seems to want to give it up for good, they do always want that last big payday (or for some, just a day in the spotlight). Austin's no different. He wants to go out on top, have that `one' big match. It's understandable.
Look at Hogan -- clearly the man isn't able to compete anymore, yet he's still booking dates, making deals, etc. He has more money than presumably he could ever need, so why risk further injury?
Flair's another one -- though, damn, he can still work better than a good 80 % of the active roster. Still, he's one big bump away from being paralyzed too.
I think it's partly that these guys want to stay in the public eye, it's partly that they legitimately enjoy what they do, and it's partly that McMahon sees they can still draw better than most on the payroll. Oh, and that money thing too....

Hee.
Lol. Agreed.
But Sharon's not a trained wrestler and she's a middle aged woman. What's so funny about Stonecold giving the stunner to Ozzy Osbourne's wife. Your sick.

For the record, it wasn't me who banned you this time, Mabs...but I probably would have, as soon as I'd read your oeuvre. Please don't come back; there are other users of The Planet who get really unhappy with me when I blackhole their entire netblock.
Nidia's probably still waiting for her appointment with the plastic surgeon for some enhancements before getting WWF tv time, due to the fact that she's neither 6 foot 1 or a man beast. I think he can overcome it.
