I used to love Elliot Smith. As I grew older, the intense negativity of his lyrics began to turn me off, but the emotional impact of his music was always undeniable. The scene in Royal Tenenbaums where "Needle in the Hay" plays while Luke Wilson's character attempts suicide is completely devestating. Very sad and senseless that Elliot chose to go that way, too.
My turntables might wobble but they don't fall down.
Oh fucking fucking fuck fuck. I loved this guy but now he's made me very angry. I did a giant interview with him after XO came out and he was so fascinating and sweet and awesome once he got warmed up and comfortable. I was worried that he was going to go but I really didn't think he was going to go. Boo.
The only thing I enjoy more than doing the crossword puzzle is actually finishing it.
Son of a bitch. Not a good way to go out, and never good to see someone with so much to offer to go so soon like that. Here's hoping he's found his peace somewhere.
I too am saddened by this. I thought his music and his lyrics were great, and I really wanted to see how much greatness he could give us. I'm thankful for the wonderful music he put out in a pretty short amount of time.
