Justin? Could you please cease using "2" when you mean "to" or "too"? It is grating on my sense of order, and makes you sound like an adolescent. I'm sure you want to be taken seriously, right?

The saddest thing about the PPV is that with all the talent the SmackDown crew has, they could put on an endless streak of awesome PPV's, but instead have pumped out a card of absolute shit.

First off, we've seen Undertaker v. Brock Lesnar numerous times. They even headlined this same PPV last year. If it didn't draw then, why does Vince think it'll draw this time? Vince's total lack of faith in the guys on his roster is one of the most dis-heartening things in wrestling today. Why not let a guy like John Cena main-event? Or an Eddie Guerrero? They've proven time and again that the fans damn sure care about those two. So why not build them up as contenders? Instead we shuffle through the same mix of main-eventers. Lesnar, Taker, Angle, Show, rinse and repeat. Fans are going to get tired of that eventually. In fact, they've BEEN tired of that for a long time now.

The constant pushing of the McMahons on these shows is pathetic as well. Vince doesn't feel that a SmackDown crew-only show can draw money, so he feels the need to push the McMahons on the show so people will actually care enough to shuffle out money to see it. THAT should tell you something about the current and future states of this company. Vince, while a great television ratings draw, is NOT a PPV draw. People do NOT want to pay money to see him wrestle. Hell, back at the height of the Austin/McMahon feud, when they had there first match that was built up like a motherfucker for MONTHS, they only BARELY outdrew the buyrate that the WCW PPV did that month, featuring a Hogan/Flair match that people had seen numerous times by then.

Looking at the tremendous roster of SmackDown, it's hard to fathom how Vince really can think that Benoit/Albert and Guerrero/Show matches rake in the buys. Does he REALLY think people want to pay 35 bucks to see ANOTHER Taker/Lesnar match, or see him fight his daughter in a match with a stipulation that NOBODY takes seriously anymore? SmackDown could easily put on a PPV that had a perfect blend of great sports-entertainment and excellent in-ring action. Unfortunatley, Vince feels THIS card is what people want to see. That's sad. And that's pretty damn scary too.

Bearing in mind that we in the Uck get this particular monthly for free, I'm actually looking forward to watching this show. *ducks* I don't giving a flying fuck whether Taker/Lesnar "draws", to be honest with you, as it has not bearing on the quality of the match, and these two have proven in the past to have good chemistry. Benoit/A-Trian is an interesting match-up from a workrate POV...I, as well as Spaceman Spiff, seem to be the only two guys around here that believe that Trian gets dealt short shrift by the workrate freaks. Given some time tonight he may well prove 'em wrong. Then again, he may not. But at least it's a match not seen on PPV before. As for Guerrero/Show, it has all the hallmarks of being an "elevation" match. Eddie cheats like a mofo to go over, garners a massive pop, and heads on to some upper-card programs. Tajiri Vs. Rey Rey should be gold, and I'm anxious to see what kind of match Angle can drag out of Cena. As for the McMahon match? I hate the concept as much as anyone, but it could easily turn out to be must-see viewing in a car-wreck "this is how bad it gets" kinda way. And hey, at least it signals one of these two folks' absence for a while.

Quickfire predictions: Brock, Vince, Tajiri, Eddie, Benoit, Cena, Gowen. See you for the post-show gab!

The only matches I'd pay to see on this card would be Angle/Cena (which I would pick to be match of the night), and Zack Gowan vs. Matt Hardy.

So, basically, that's two out of seven matches. The SOK-man says no go.

Here's hoping the Survivor Series will turn out better...with the return of four on four elimination matches between RAW and Smackdown? One could hope, of course.

Quick Predictions -

Brock vs. Taker - 'Taker for the belt.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Big Show - Eddie to retain. Chavo may figure in.

Tajiri vs. Rey Mysterio - Tajiri retains. Mist will be used.

Stephanie McMahon vs. Vince McMahon - Vince wins to retain position as Chairman. Sable & Linda will catfight.

John Cena vs. Kurt Angle - Cena. Dirty finish.

Chris Benoit vs. A-Train - Huh. Benoit. Clean.

Matt Hardy vs. Zach Gowan - Zach.

Out of seven matches, I'd pay for, hrm, two. Three at most. I don't know why this card is so weak with the SD roster being so full of talent. Even though I like the McMahons, in general, it's pretty shoddy to have them in a match when so many performers (good ones!) are languishing backstage.

Speaking for myself, I don't see the card so awfully bad as almost everyone thinks. There are 3 matches that are going to be really interesting, and the rest......well.....is just there, but still, could've been worse.

Brock - Taker: Brock.

They wouldn't make ANOTHER title change, after only one month, would they? Besides, face Taker makes me puke, so I won't pick him anyway.

Vince - Steph: Steph.

Is this match actually taking place? I still think this is a joke, and they will conme out at the PPV and tell everyone how we could be so stupid that something so ridiculous is actually happening.
Steph wins, because this would make two PPV wins in a row for Vince, and that can't be. Plus, what is the meaning of the match if it is so obvious for a man to beat a woman?

Eddie - Show: Eddie.

As much as I love Show, I love Eddie even more, and he is so on fire recently that I can't imagine him losing the title, even with a possible Chavo interference. And Big Show as US champ? Something sounds wrong here.

Angle - Cena: Cena.

Much stated, Cena needs a big win, and I am pretty sure that Kurt does the job here. Hoping for some hilarious promos.

Tajiri - Rey: Tajiri.
I am sure that everything has been said before, and I agree.

Benoit - A-Train: A-Train.
If Train loses here, there is no purpose for him anymore on the SD roster. You can not feed him to every big name, and still expect to take this guy as a serious threat. So this is a must win for Train, and I hope they realize it.

Zach - Matt: Matt.
Has Zach ever won a match? He couldn't beat a 58 old non-wrestler. Matt losing might do some serious damage to Matt, and I don't wanna see that happen.

Sweet dreams......

Brock vs. Taker - wrestle, and I will love you. Don't wrestle, and you've sold out, because I know you want to.

Eddy vs. Show - ok, if the US title is actually supposed to be the "wrestling" title, you get what I mean, then this match is wrong. I'd be much more eager to see Eddy up against Benoit, or heaven forbid, Rhyno. If they could just forget for one minute that Rhyno is Heyman's bitch...

Angle vs. Cena - It has Angle. The feuding has been amusing. I'm actually sorry I won't see this.

Benoit vs. A-Train - ok, maybe Train deserves some respect. I still have no reason to care about him or this angle. Benoit has really been hitting the steroids, hasn't he? Seeing my baby with those freakish muscles is so sad.

Tajiri vs. Rey - ahhhhhh.

Matt vs. Zach - pointless. Nobody cares.

I'm usually the harshest on Smackdown and I'm looking forward to this show. Huh.

Zach Gowen v. Matt Hardy

The Match: Hey! The remembered this feud! Good for them. Should be ok. It was at the house show I went to this summer, anyway. Zach can't transition worth shit, but he's got some impressive spots.

Prediction: Shannon Moore uses the Version One portrait to get Matt the win. Matt is pissed.

Chris Benoit v. A-Train

The Match: Benoit will be good, but not at all interesting. A-Train will be interesting, but not at all good. The feud has been poorly booked with the face constantly going over, and neither guy has really verbalized any point to this match effectively.

Prediction: Benoit wins. This is one of those PPV matches where they throw Benoit a bone because they can get away with doing it.

Rey Misterio v. Tajiri
WWE Cruiserweight Title

The Match: Should be good, though Tajiri has a much more convincing feud with Knoble. Rey is so far beyond the Cruiserweight title that it isn't funny, Tajiri needs a mouthpiece if they're going to stay serious with him.

Prediction: Tajiri with...uh...pink mist. Knoble gets involved to no avail.

Big Show v. Eddie Guererro
WWE U.S. Title

The Match: The feud has been hit or miss so far. It's been a hit when Big Show is in control, miss when Eddie has been. Eddie will bump like a champ, and Show has been good of late. Of course, Big Show is big so this match CAN'T be good. Right?

Prediction: Eddie via shenanigans.

Vince McMahon v. Stephanie McMahon
I Quit/Loser Leaves the WWE

The Match: I'm a sucker for Vince's overacting. Every interview he does he creates a soundclip. I don't think the actual match will be nearly as bad as people think, if only because it just screams "Overbooked beyond recognition". I imagine there will be more run-ins than you could shake a stick at, enough to be vaguely entertaining, and this match/angle is as good a setup to take a major character off TV than any other.

Prediction: Vince gets the win after help from Brock.

Kurt Angle v. John Cena

The Match: Cena has ramped up his performance for this match, Angle has ramped down. What will happen? I imagine a very good match. This is the good kind of conflict of styles and both sides are more than able to hold their own.

Prediction: Cena cheats to win, the angle continues.

The Undertaker v. Brock Lesner
Biker Chain match for the WWE Heavyweight Title

The Match: At least it's not Kurt Angle again.

The build has been...well it's been. Brock's heel character has been awful this time around, and he really needs a permanent manager, not just hanging around with Vince. The match itself should be a bloody fun brawl. It's been a year since we last saw this feud, and it'll be interesting to see if it's any different now.

Prediction: Well...it feels like it's about time for the Undertaker's retirement tour. Undertaker gets the win.

Wisconsin Badgers: 6-2 (What a sever letdown. The fact that despite getting outclassed the whole game, we stayed in it gives me a glimmer of hope for the rest of the season.)

Y'know, sadly, it isn't so much that this is an awful card. There are 3 matches that I'd pay for, & possibly as many as 5 that could be good. However, for me, the build & background has been terribly off-putting, to the point that any possibility of good matches is swamped by the shit (figuratively, & literally in the case of Eddie/BS).

Brock - Taker: (Brock retains, not clean)

I like Taker quite a bit. I like Brock pretty well. But (for me, at least -- maybe I have a short attention span) the emotional build got dropped, & the awful pre-PPV segment on SD doesn't lead me to think that this is going to have any magic.

Angle - Cena: (Angle, clean)

Kurt is a god, & is incapable of putting on a bad PPV match. Although I'm the only person on the planet who's not into Cena's gimmick, I still like his work just fine. I'd be perfectly happy to watch this.

Tajiri - Rey: (Rey, with shocking interference)

Deja vu, that strange feeling that we've seen this before. I love Rey, & I like Tajiri. This would be cool, if I didn't already know (having consulted my crystal ball) that regardless of what else happens, there will be illegal mist involved in the finish. The only suprises there will be 1) what colour the mist is, & 2) whether somebody else sprays it, as a shocking swerve. (Smarky-smark-smark, I know -- they've driven me to it!! :-) )

Benoit - A-Train: (A-Train, just to balance Eddie's win)

I like a nice variety in the styles of matches on my PPV. We should either have this or Eddie/BigShow. Having both is redundant. I'd actually prefer to see this one -- could be interesting.

Eddie - Show: (Eddie)

They have run out of creative ways for Eddie to cheat & get even. Spraying liquified shit everywhere, & especially Big Show wallowing in it, was too gross for me. Could they put on a good match? Possibly. WIth that build, do I want anything to do with it? Nope.

Zach - Matt: (Matt, with interference; Matt's portrait bites the dust)

Not interested. The E piques my interest in a Zach match by having him gone for 7 weeks? Until they figure out some way to give Zach some credibility, it's just a bully beating up somebody who's got no chance. Even I can do rah-rah for the underdog for a while, but I have a fairly low threshold for "Stay down!!"

Vince - Steph: (Stop the insanity!!!)

Clearly this is really the main event, since it's the one with all the hype & background. Every PPV has a couple of potty-break, throw-away matches. But giving the biggest trash match on the card the most hype turned me completely off the whole show.

Now if those who do watch the PPV (eg. The Brits who don't have to pay for it! :-) ) report a miracle, I'm not above ordering a repeat showing. But I'm not holding my breath.

People have been saying this for awhile now, but if this isn't the lowest rated WWE event in years than I'll be shocked. All the blame should go to the midcard for not putting Vince and Steph over enough.

Eddy vs Show is the only thing I see of any intrest. Eddy will probably go over on his way up the card.

Looks like there will be an additional match:

The APA vs. The Basham Brothers.

I'm watching Heat at this...very...moment, and I'm liking it. Kidman vs. Moore could be a great opener (as the girlies like Kidman) and Cena's in another battle rap. The one he had with Angle rawked, so I'm hoping this one will be equally as good.

The SOK-man's prediction to a card he almost forgot about:

Taker vs. Lesnar : Lesnar retains

Tajiri vs. Mysterio : Mysterio wins, Noble interferes.

Cena vs. Angle : Match of the night sees Cena win cleanly, but feud continues. This is the highlight of Smackdown, I think.

Show vs. Eddy : Show wins, Chavo interferes. Hilarity ensues.

A-Train vs. Benoit : Benoit.

Steph vs. Vince : They miss their flight, double count out, we're all happy. Seriously, though...Steph wins, because even when she's supposed to be gone, she sticks around. She learned that trick from her future husband. :-)

Gowan vs. Hardy : Gowan wins, Handshake from Hardy.

Not worth watching, IMHO...

Because of no Sunday night football, and because I'm bored and getting my mind off of Hawk's death:

How They Fared- No Mercy PPV Prediction- The caveat is that I'm only listing the posters who predicted every match on the card, not the people who just chose to bitch or praise or talk about one match.

First, the short-form winners- Zach, Tajiri, Vince, Angle, Show, Benoit, and Brock

Now, the final standings- Predicting all 7 matches(not counting added match):

1. NetHackSlasher- 6-1
1. Mr. Tuesday- 6-1
3. Madiq- 5-2
3. Geemoney- 5-2
3. EvilAntlerGod- 5-2
3. Oldschoolhero- 5-2
7. MattTracker- 4-3
7. MysticGohan2003- 4-3
7. Torchslasher- 4-3
7. Liz- 4-3
7. SOK- 4-3
12. ShemthePenman- 3-4
12. Excalibur05- 3-4
14. UnsUwe- 2-5

Predicting 6 matches:

1. Redsoxnation- 4-2
2. Emma- 1-5

Notes- Both NetHack and Mr. Tuesday only got the Eddie/Show match wrong, as they both picked Eddie. Nobody went zero for seven in the predictions or even one for six.

Redsoxnation didn't predict the Hardy/Zach match, and Emma didn't pick a winner from Vince vs. Steph. That is why they are separate from the main list.

So again, I apologize for this long-winded post that really has no real point, other than to prove that I am as mediocore in my wrestling picks as I am with NFL picks.

Molly, Stacy and Daffney all in WWE? I suddenly lost all my will to complain about anything regarding the WWE. Hope I don't lose my street cred for this.

He's big and hairy with a built in chant. When people talk about "looks" in wrestling, this isn't quite what they're talking about, but this guy DOES look like he gets paid to fight people and enjoys that very much.

So I guess I meant "interesting to look at" in the sense that he looks like a big beastly guy who you can make fun of, which makes him a natural low-midcard heel.

Well, maybe Cena is still knocked out from Show's KO punch last night on Raw? So yes, maybe it IS Show's fault! More likely it's probably the fact that the last half hour featured 3 of my least favorite rookies which are Tarver, Slater and Skippy.
