>>There is no God. If there is a God, he is bitter, vindictive and purchasable.<<
There is a God and he wears a Yankees hat.
>>Aaron Boone should be dragged into the street and shot.<<
Because he did what every baseball player ever born dreams of doing? I guess my accountant should be dragged and shot for doing my taxes on time.
>>George Steinbrenner should be forcibly kept alive no matter what happens to him, and then drawn and quartered while we think of something even more fun to do to him.<<
Again, why say this about Steinbrenner? Maybe if the owners of other sports franchises cared about their teams as much as him, they win titles also. Tell some of these other owners to skip the 50 million doallar bonus this year and spend the money on some players. Oh, and I am sick of all this whining about the Yankees payroll. The last two world series winners combined payroll (Arizona and the Angels) probably doesnt equal that of the Yankees OR the Red Sox 100 million + payroll. The best team won, why can't Boston fans be like most other fans and show a little class during a spots game. When you win you are the worst winners on the planet and when you lose you look for every excuse in the book! This is what you get for decades of the bad karma you create. Anyone remember the wife beater chants during Nets-Celtics games? Or the alomst sickening display during game 3 of the ALCS that JUST happened? How about the countless other examples of brutal treatment the Boston fans have perpitrated against opposing teams for years? Thats enough, I just hope we dont have to hear an entire offseason pissing and moaning from dejected Sox fans and Yankee haters. Thats so pathetic.

This is opposed to the always-classy New York fans? Wait....
Boston fans are allowed to make noise when their teams win because it happens so rarely (aside from the Celtics).
Of all the gizmos forced upon us by the modern world, is any more melancholy than the leaf blower? The device is manifestly useless. It blows leaves from one place to another, and then the wind blows them back again. -- Roger Ebert

Dubious trade? So, I guess when San Diego was trading with Pittsburgh, was that a dubious trade as well? Or are the only ones that are DUBIOUS the ones that bite Boston in the ass?
You're right, as it relates to the "woe is me" attitude of some fans. I have no time for that attitude myself, and in fact I put on my Nomar jersey when I got out of the shower this morning. Yesterday sucked, but it was a damned fine season. What I refuse to buy is this notion of the Yankees winning because of "HEART." That sounds just as fishy as curses and bad vibes. It's like the "intangibles." It's a straw man you drag out when you can't find any other evidence to support your claims. The Yankees are a good ball club, and you can't give such clubs a chance to win. Last night Grady Little handed them a golden opportunity. Sure, the quality of the Yankee bats contributed to the win, but every stat sheet I've looked at says that if Grady Little had a brain and brought in Timlin, we'd be talking about a Sox/Marlins series. And that goes for Dusty Baker, too, for leaving Prior out there to die. The Red Sox and Cubs had plenty of heart - just brainless managers. But then, real analysis is a lot harder than pithy comments, right? You may not be a sharp writer, Flea, but you have HEART!
Mr. Lee -
Let's leave this myth of Yankee class behind. Felix Heredia, our buddies Jeff Nelson and Karim Garcia... there's no class there. Beating a groundskeeper is not class. The media lets NY get away with these things because it makes a nice story when we can portray New York as a bastion of class, dignity and excellence. Fact is Jason Giambi puts his pants on the same as the rest of us (unless Mr. Steinbrenner orders otherwise). And "Matsui, Giambi, John Flaherty, David Wells, Mike Mussina, Jose Contreras and Roger Clemens" are the "only" players NY acquired via free agency? With the exception of Flaherty, all of those guys have been very large pieces of the Yankees success. So if your intent was to minimize the impact of free agent acquisitions, you failed. And last I checked, Boston fans have never thrown batteries, nor referred to Jim Rice as a "nigger." Take a look around at your glass house for a while, please.

You mean Kidd didn't beat his wife? I'm sorry, maybe in Jersey that doesn't make you a heel. And the sickening display in game 3? Do you refer to Zimmer making a mockery of himself? Perhaps you refer to Posada's constant yelling, and his arguing of balls and strikes during every game? Karim Garcia going spikes first at Todd Walker? Nelson and Garcia beating a groundskeeper? No? You think all of this is outweighed by an HBP which was close to a man's head, but not nearly as close as we want to pretend it was? Bottom line, Garcia stands still that ball hits his shoulders. Garcia ducks it hits his back. I'm not excusing it. But New York's aggressive acts far, far outweighed Boston's. Last I checked, none of our players are facing assault charges. Only two of the classy, classy Yankees. And I can think of other pathetic things. Rooting for the Yankees, for one. An uninspiring group of players who win year in and year out because of a massive financial advantage. I'd rather have 100 years of losing (and do) than the boredom and insufferable bandwagoning and ego that has resulted from Yankee dominance. You can root for your front running Bronx Bombers all you want. Your mayors can even offer you free stadiums. I actually like rooting for a team that has to work harder to get where they are. A team to whom everything is not presented on a silver platter. A team that's permitted to show character and grow facial hair if the spirit moves them. Hell, I'll take the vapid Bennifer Affleck. You can keep Jack Nicholson, a man who roots for the Lakers and the Yankees. Yeah, there's a true sports fan. Wonder if he's a Cowboys fan, too. And you can keep the noisome Billy Crystal, and Nicole Kidman. Rooting for New York is easy. It takes heart to root for the Red Sox.

Did you guys have a guy named Will Cordero on your team? Before we talk about how classless the Nets and Yankees are, perhaps you should look to who your own team has employed.
And, Palpatine, are you still contending that your head hunting piece of shit pitcher didnt instigate that entire situation? Like I said earlier, Blame Zimmer all you want, its still Pedro beating up on an elderly man.
And, please, stop using the old "you bought the title" argument. Firstly, you site Clemens, well, if your team had better management, Roger would still be wearing a B on his hat. But, you geniuses had to run him off. Either way, he signed out of Toronto, and finished one contract, and was a free agent again, your team COULD HAVE SIGNED HIM, but didnt. Of all the guys you sited, only two are every day players, and the pitching is where the money was spent. BTW, all those pitchers make less than Pedro. Think about that for a while! And, if not for the Yankees, your Boston Red Sox would have the highest Payroll in the American league. So stop talking shit about how the Yanks are ruining the game by spending, because like I said before you guys are just spending STUPIDLY. I mean, where the hell do you spend 108 million? Please, tell me!
Call it heart, call it mystique, call it whatever you want, the Yankees are YOUR American League Champions. Better than all the other teams this season.
As far as taking "heart" to follow a loser year after year, that doesnt make you special, it makes you a fan. When Don Mattingly was the only decent player the Yanks had, I was a fan. When Ron Guidry was throwing sliders and off speed pitches instead of the dreaded fastball he had, I was a fan. When Dave Winfield was there, I was a fan. I have been a Yankee fan since the first Baseball game I ever saw, which happened to be the World Series with them losing to the Reds. Been a long time supporter ever since.
SO, I am sorry your Red Sox blew it yet again, sorry you can get a team with any talent for the money you spend. Being second is great, there are a lot of teams you are better than. Its just that the Yankees are better than you. Be a good loser, your manager was, your pitcher was. Follow thier lead.
I just hate how the Yankee organization is able to dominate baseball because the league doesn't have a harder salary cap. The playing field is so laughably tilted in their favour that even other big market clubs (Los Angeles, Chicago, even the Mets) are left in the dust.
If money is everything and the Yankees bought their way into the World Series then how did the Marlins get in? How did the Angels win it last year? How did the National League send 6 different teams to the World Series in the last 6 years? How would Boston ($100 mil) vs. Florida ($50 mil.) be an even matchup?
How can everyone say the Sox should've replaced Pedro ($17 mil.) with Embree ($2 mil.) in the 8th?
Did you guys have a guy named Will Cordero on your team? Before we talk about how classless the Nets and Yankees are, perhaps you should look to who your own team has employed.
Cordero was booed every time by the Sox fans fans after his wife beating and the Sox dumped him soon after. Kidd gets cheered by what little amount of fans show up at the Meadowlands and just got a max contract. Now you can say that Kidd is a lot better talent at basketball than Cordero and you would be right. However, Coangelo out in Phoenix still traded Kidd away after the season of his arrest.
EDIT: Since Zim is leaving the Yankees, maybe George can hire Little as the bench coach next season. Might as well give him a job to return the favor.

Sox blow another chance to win the world series. More money for me!!!!

WORD. To use an old quote, "cheering for the Yankees is like cheering for U.S. Steel." Or, to put it in a modern text, cheering for Microsoft. Boston may be a bunch of jackasses (and as a Jays fan, I'm sure not fond of the Red Sox), but I'd cheer them eight days a week over New York. The Yankees are the Triple H of baseball, winning because they have a built-in advantage.

First: All anyone needs to know about Red Sox/Yankees is that outside of CRZ retiring the first time, I believe this is the longest thread in the history of this board. I'll give the Yankees credit, they took advantage of opportunities, that's what a good team does. And, in a possibly sickening way, I might root for them in the World Series, because the Marlins winning twice in 6 years is probably a more disgusting prospect than the Yankees winning again. Team can't even draw 6,000 fans to their 2002 home opener and they can get win twice in 6 years just boggles the mind and moves me closer to atheism.
Now, I'm going to really go off:
Since I haven't had any of those pesky chest pains in around 24 hours, I guess I can start venting. Since Guru instituted that rule involving threatening to kill that Cubs fan, I'll refrain from venting my true feelings regarding Foghorn Leghorn on LSD. I said numerous times during the season I wanted him gone, and if he's not gone in the next few days, there might be a Mutiny on the Bus (since Grady cost most of us 2-1 odds on the Series, we can't afford a Bounty to Mutiny on any longer). People have always said there is a fine line between sanity and insanity. Hell, I crossed that line 12 years ago when Roberto Kelly took Reardon into the net in September and then Matt Young walked the ballpark. The inability of Grady Little to perform a move that an untrained chimpanzee that has had a lobotomy performed upon it has now pushed me over the thin line that exists between insanity and out and out anger and hatred. If Grady isn't out, I abandon ship.
Where's the spaceship? The Mayor promised a spaceship if we beat the A's, and I want my spaceship.

I love how all you Yankees fans consider rolling a guy who's charging you onto the ground as "beating him up." What the fuck was he supposed to do, stand there and let him swing away? Get fucking real. He didn't, oh... THROW A BROKEN BAT AT HIS HEAD, like one of the oh-so "classy" Yankees.

But, but, but he thought it was the ball. He thought it was the ball he threw at the runner. Doesn't that make it all better?
Sometimes I ask myself why I watch WWE after all the crap it's given me. HLA, necro, HHH, and so on. And then it hits me. That one simple phrase that can be modified and used for anything that gets you down, yet makes you keep coming back.

I told myself I wouldn't get sucked into this, and yet, here I am, so I may as well make this quick:
All either one of you have really said here is "I don't like the Yankees because they win, but I'll root for the Red Sox because they lose a lot." The rest is just fluff.
If the New York Rangers have taught us anything, having a ton of money does not automatically lead to wins. Playing the sport well, however, does.

Roger threw the broken bat, which was never, EVER at head level, in FRONT of Piazza. It was an intimitation move, no doubt, but nowhere near Piazza's head. Funny how you are still ignorant to the fact that Pedro threw at Garcia, and was a whole lot closer to HIS head than Clemens was to Piazza entire body with the broken bat.
And, once again, I will reiterate, that Pedro, the Piece of shit, threw an old man to the ground. Gutless. He's a big tough man when he can bean you with a 95MPH fastball in the back of the head, but when an old man gets near him, all he can do is look like a bitch and thrown him to the ground. Still no different than Will Cordero hitting his wife, and saying "she hit me first".
Again I ask: WHAT THE FUCK WAS A 72 YEAR OLD MAN DOING TRYING TO START SHIT WITH A PROFESSIONAL ATHELETE IN HIS PRIME??? For God's sake, he's 72 years old. The old shithead should have shown some sense. For him to not be held accountable by some of you people for his involvement in that altercation is ridiculous. He charged Pedro, threw a punch, and grabbed on to him. He's lucky Pedro didn't drill him with a right hand. But, since he's old (and a Yankee), he doesn't have to be held responsible for his actions I guess. Just like Roger.
Cub Fear looms for fans in Atlanta, San Francisco, and Florida.
I said before that Zim should have sat his ass on the bench. But, again, it doesnt excuse Pedro. Zim never grabbed onto Pedro. He was busy getting his head wrenched around and being thrown to the ground, by an athlete in his prime.
Zims actions doesnt absolve Perdos actions. Neither should have happened. Neither would have if Pedro wasnt head hunting to begin with.

It also never would have happened if Zimmer kept his fat ass on the bench, or at least away from Pedro, or maybe, not swung at Pedro.

Roger was having a little trouble running that season. He also probably had trouble sitting up. He showed up for spring training the same way Brando made it to the set of Apocalypse Now: bloated and slothful, like the talented man inside of him was slowly being consumed by an ever-spreading gelatinous blob. How silly for Boston to not want to pay him over $20 million!

Well, of course Clemens didn't throw at Piazza's head. He'd already hit him in the head with a pitch in July of that year. Try again.

Yep, dump Clemens, he only went on to win TWO Cy Yound awards in Toronto, and one in New York. Flabby and out of shape, and mowing down batters.
I know Clemens hit Piazza in the head in the summer, but I was pointing out that he didnt thrown the bat anywhere near Piazza in the World Series that year. No need to try again, I was right with what I said the first time.
And we agree, Zim should have sat his ass on the bench.
