The way she plays you would have thought she had already retired.....

according to ESPN (http://espn.go.com/tennis/news/2003/1014/1637734.html) Anna K is going to decide in january whether she should continue her tennis career or pursue her new career goal of being a TV Awards presenter....lofty aspirations

I can't say I wouldn't miss watching her, but by the time I'd realise she was in a tournament, she would have usually been eliminated anyway. That, and all of the new European cuties coming up through the ranks give me other women to og...appreciate. If I can get over Martina Hingis retiring, then it'll be no problem with Anna K.

She might as well...how much money did she actually make playing tennis compared to how much she made selling her look? If anything, the tennis is dragging her down because she's terrible at it. It was like Michael Jordan playing baseball; he was still marketable, but the fact that he was terrible at his "profession" didn't make him any more appealing. If you're earning a living off your image, I think you're better off shedding anything that's gonna drag you down.

And before anyone can make the "she loves tennis, not everything is about the money" argument....no. If she actually cared about tennis over being a celebrity, she'd have spent more time working on her game, less time posing on the beach. Tennis worked for her as an avenue to other opportunities, but she clearly doesn't need it any more, so why not let it go?

Before she started getting hurt she got up to 8th in the world and reached the semifinals at Wimbledon. That's hardly "terrible" a la MJ the Baron. If she could've just won ONE singles tournament she'd be thought of differently, I think, but she started to break down physically, plus I'm sure her off-court life adversely affected her on-court performance.

Compared to how many first round exits?

Whether it's due to injury or not, off-court life or not, or what have you, she's not much of a tennis player as it stands right now today. Tennis is not where the money is for this woman; I'd say it's a distraction from her other endeavours rather than the other way around as it is for most athletes. That's all I'm saying. Tennis is clearly secondary...Anna K. retiring would be the same as The Rock leaving wrestling to make movies. Sure, maybe he likes wrestling, but it really isn't worth it anymore given what else is out there.

Anna may need tennis more than she thinks. Without the tennis, she is just another pretty face. I think being an athlete (such as it is) was and is a good part of her appeal.

I agree.

When in tennis she was pretty much teh "hottest chick in tennis" (I mean look at Lindsey Davenport) Without tennis she just becomes another moderatley hot chick with attitude. I'm not sure how happy Nike (or whoever) will be to keep flinging money at her now that she's said that at 22 her body is too trashed to continue.

I hope she fades as I'm not a big fan of the "I'm pretty, so lavish attention on me" set.

She was hardly a poor tennis player....she actually won a couple of Grand Slam events in doubles. Perhaps she is the tennis equivalent of Billy Gunn; fine in teams, but never able to break through on their own.

Well if she's the tennis equivalent of Billy Gunn, good riddance! Or did you mean that in a "once her appeal dies down they'll just have her make out with Torrie Wilson" way?

My God, I didn't even think of that. Someone needs to make this happen NOW.

Suuuurree pieman...your wife is a Days fan. I'll admit I used to schedule my college classes around Days. Now I have wrestling for my soap opera fix.
