I think I read that story....

I think she was just being candid in referece to how bad she is for young woman as an influence. From what she said, I did not think she meant LITERALLY.

But we all know in the world of politics, you never should say anything that, taken literally, sounds bad.

Here is a story about from Verizon:

Comment on Spears Called 'Inadvertent'

The wife of Gov. Robert Ehrlich made an "inadvertent figure of speech" when she said she would shoot pop singer Britney Spears if she had the chance, the first lady's spokeswoman said Tuesday.

While speaking at a domestic violence conference at Hood College in Frederick, Kendel Ehrlich said it is important for women to get as much education as possible to avoid becoming dependent on anyone else.

"It is incredibly important to get that message to young women. You know, really, if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would," Ehrlich said Friday.

Her spokeswoman, Meghann Siwinski, said Ehrlich is a working mother raising a young son and she made an inadvertent comment while expressing her concerns about the influence of pop culture on children.

Jive Records, the New York-based label that represents Spears, said in an e-mailed statement that Ehrlich had "shot her own self in the foot by promoting violence."

It worked for Janet Jackson.

But of how long? hasn't Janet dropped off the face of the Earth?

Once an artist makes themself about sex only, it tends to get boring after a while. I mean really... what does Britany REALLY have left to show of her body? Not a lot...

And, sooner or later, she has to come out with another album, and that's when it may start to unravel.

She and her media people are savvy enough to put her body everywhere they can in the meantime, keeping her level of celebrity up without her having to sing a note. When the next album arrives and tanks, however, what then for poor Britney? If it is indeed true that her next album will include one track where Britney raps, this could be her "Glitter" moment, where she makes the transition from "superstar singer" to "public embarrassment, but still sufficient eye candy to hang onto her record contract."

What are the odds on a Playboy appearance in the future? I'll take 5/1 for within three years. Let's face it, either Britters or Christina Aguilera will succumb to the mighty Heff sooner or later. Maybe both.

If her next album 'bombs', she'll probably be whoring herself around Hollywood to get some prominent movie roles.

Totally agree, she really lost that "girl next door" appeal, which is what, at least to me, made her wicked fine. She is okay but I can easily name 10 other celebrity women I would rather (Elisha Cuthbert, Eliza Dushku, Mila Kunis, Mandy Moore, the chick from 8 Simple Rules and Kirsten Dunst come to mind for me immediately for example). I have had the same arguement as Scott and I have found a few guys that would rather some of the above than Spears.

Furthermore, in my opinion, she is too skanky to re-invent herself like Mandy Moore did.

As Bill Simmons would say, I would say we are prolly 3 years away from a Skinamax release starring Ms. Spears as some "high powered" business woman who must find love.

Let's see...Who's Brittney's good friend?

Madonna.

Madonna has already shown that you can put out mediocre pop music and still be uber popular. All you have to do is keep showing the skin, grow with your audience and occasionally reinvent your look.

You can almost draw a direct parallel between the 2. Think about Madonna's early career. Slightly provocative, bubble-gum pop music, Who's That Girl.

Brittney starts off with slightly provocative school girl look, bubble gum pop music, Crossroads.

Few albums later...

Madonna begins to show more skin (ala Open your Heart video, etc).

Brittney begins to show more skin (Oops I Did It Again, and the MTV appearance where she was in that skin colored suit).

It's only a matter of time before Brittney puts out her equilavent of the Sex book. Then she can "grow" with all the little girls that all but worshipped her in their youth. Just like Madonna did around 1990 when she put out Erotica, then Bedtime Stories, then more grown up sounds like that on Ray of Light.

Then just for fun (and to try to appeal to a younger market) Brittney can put out her version of Music.

Madonna has already created the formula to create a female pop-star. All she has to do is give the revised version of it to Brittney, groom her a little bit (which I think is already happening), and Viola! you have the next version of Madonna (except all the business savvy).

Scary thought.

You sure about that? The last time I checked her latest album wasn't selling too well (maybe one of y'all can prove otherwise).

She is still the highest selling female artist of all time.

I'm talking in terms of "career" not just a one shot here and there.

Her career has spanned over 20 years, has many #1 hits, millions of albums sold, etc, etc...

Madonna is up there, but RIAA (it ain't working right now) and that site show that there are several women who have sold more (that site seems somewhat dated compared to the RIAA's).

I think Jessica Simpson is doing a better job of "re-inventing" herself and keeping herself fresh with this reality TV show of hers. When I think of Britney Spears, I think of a no-talent, 90s bubble-gum pop star who is doing a bad impression of Madonna to do whatever she can to stay in the spotlight. If she was smart she would try to develop a movie career or do something else, because music and/or taking your clothes off just won't cut it for her.

Seriously?! I think all Jessica Simpson is showing is that it is a good thing she has a pretty hot body and a voice cut out for pop music, because GOOD LORD is she as dumb as a post.

(I apologize to any posts who may have been offended by the above comparison to Jessica Simpson. I was using a common metaphor. I rest assured that there are, in fact, many posts that have more intellect than Ms. Simpson.)

I stand corrected...

The rankings go (according to rockonthenet.com)

Barbra Streisand with 62 Million

Mariah Carey with 51 Million

Whitney Houston with 49 Million

Then Madonna with 46 Million

Madonna also ranks at 16th of the Century (male and female)

The point is, she is Uber Popular.

Well, she was in her bra and panties in Crossroads, so it was least eighty. The horny teen market is very coveted.

If we're using the Madonna comparison here, does that mean she brings out the smutty book? I hope she doesn't marry Sean Penn though. Who's his modern day equivalent?

Of course Simpson is an idiot, but that is the whole point of the show. Kind of an "Anna Nicole without pretending at all to be an idiot" performance. It has its own charm.

Honestly, with Madonna, it was a totally different story. To start with (though her stuff lately seems, desperate)- she had a degree of talent that Britany has not demonstrated.

With Madonna, it was not so much about showing skin as shock value. Kissing a black Jesus, "masturbating" on stage... It was never about making people horny, rather, getting people to gasp. There is just nothing Britany can do to get that kind of reaction out of people these days. She can pose virtually naked on a cover, and all it really garners is "look at her, she is hot! Madonna got reactions like "Oh my God, I can't believe she did that...." Totally different.

I mean, come on, it really is BORING nowadays! Who does not pose virtually naked on a cover anymore? Christina? Mariah? Britany is not doing it to stand out and be unique, she is doing it to "compete." I just think if your music is so crappy that you can't rely on people LIKING it to compete, and have to rely on horny boys picking up your album becaus eyou have a hott ass, fake tits, and can bend erotically, you are setting yourself up for a huge drop....
