Well, here is the 7:15 am EDT tally on Question 1:

Yes 4,002,195 54.1
No 3,406,346 45.9

And question 2(top 10):

Arnold Schwarzenegger Rep 3,397,505 47.6
Cruz M. Bustamante Dem 2,333,278 32.7
Tom McClintock Rep 939,418 13.2
Peter Miguel Camejo Grn 203,244 2.9
Arianna Huffington Ind 41,801 0.6
Peter V. Ueberroth Rep 20,797 0.3
Larry Flynt Dem 14,673 0.3
Gary Coleman Ind 12,195 0.2
George B. Schwartzman Ind 10,293 0.2
Mary"Mary Carey" Cook Ind 9,461 0.2

Gallagher finished 16th...darling of the Internet Georgy Russell finished 33rd(behind Angelyne).

Incidentally, who the hell is George Schwrtzmann?

Also of note, Schwarzenegge got more actual votes and a higher percentage of votes than Gray Davis did in the 2002 general election, for what it's worth.

Any truth to the rumor that California will now reapply for admission to the union

A huge disappointment. I'm shocked that only 252 people would vote for Wienerboard's own (kinda) Reva Renee Renz. For shame on them. Oh, well, now she can apply for a bartending spot in Boston. Woohoo! [/JerryLawler]

Sometimes I ask myself why I watch WWE after all the crap it's given me. HLA, necro, HHH, and so on. And then it hits me. That one simple phrase that can be modified and used for anything that gets you down, yet makes you keep coming back.

Every episode has the potential to be the best one ever, and I'll be damned if I'm going to miss it after sitting through this shit.

If the Midget Porn industry had put aside their differences and gotten their act together, they could have garnered 36,329 votes (2,214 more if they recruited Angelyne). A damn shame.

I really thought Gary Coleman was going to push past Adrianna Huffington.
Now, I'm going to throw out a few points that havent been looked at yet:

1) If Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are going to point out voter irregularities, this could be funny. The state is run by the Democrats. That means the irregularities are caused by the Democrats.

2) How stupid did Davis have to be down the stretch to let Arianna Huffington travel with him? She was getting less than 2 percent when she dropped out. I know Larry King has a hard on for her, but everyone else finds her annoying.

3) Head of the DNC Terry McCaulliff is now 0-2. I'm sorry, but at least when Rendell was DNC chairman, I could listen to him, because he would make valid points. Terry is a used car salesman in a good suit. Combine this race with the Minnesota fiasco last year, and perhaps the Democrats should look for a new front man before '04.

1. I think used car salesmen are insulted....

2. McAuliffe won't go. He's the man the Clintons installed. As long as the Clintons tacitly control the party, he'll stay.

People don't trust politicians. Given someone charismatic or someone with enough money to appear as if they are, coupled with the ability to appear as an outsider (Washington or Sacramento), people are attracted to them. The "thing" Arnold had going for him, besides his celebrity, is that he could spout positions and no one could point to his acts in government as proof or disproof. Worked pretty well for Clinton and "W".

I disagree, mostly because the "Clintons control the party quietly" argument is pretty dead by this point. The draft-Hillary movement never even got off the ground, the labor and left wings of the party don't even trust the DLC wing any more, and the frontrunner (Dean) has nothing to do with the Clintons.

Godking, Hillary is not running because at this time she doesn't she Bush as vulnerable and her poll numbers likely aren't where she wants them, yet. If Bushes numbers continue to decline and the Democratic field saty as uninspiring as it currently is, she could still ride in on her white horse.
Bill Clinton is still the real head of the party, especially since Al Gore has essentially disappeared. Many not not respect or like him, but he is a master politician and clever enough not to be obvious.

Considering, let's face it, the mental power of those who voted for Arnold because they done seen him on the movie screen, I think it's pretty fair to assume a lot of those people voting for Schwartzman thought they were voting for Schwartzenegger.

Grimis, I believe George Schwartzman got the "people with bad hand/eye coordination" vote. They were probably trying to vote for Arnold and missed. On my ballot at leat, they were REALLY close together. Anyone who can't see very well could have easily screwed it up.

I was assuming that, considering that he didn't even bother with such trivial things as a website...

Oh, and then there's this:

[Sen. Orrin] Hatch has introduced a resolution to amend the Constitution's ban on non-American-born presidents by allowing people who have been U.S. citizens for at least 20 years to be elected to the White House. While the measure was not introduced with Schwarzenegger in mind, Hatch said the Austrian-born superstar would be a perfect example of why the constitutional amendment is needed.

"If Arnold Schwarzenegger turns out to be the greatest governor of California, which I hope he will, if he turns out to be a tremendous leader and he proves to everybody in this country that he's totally dedicated to this country as an American . . . we would be wrong not to give him that opportunity," said Hatch.

Let's face it, it affects both parties. Everybody was psyched for the Granholm for President bandwagon until they found out she was Canadian by birth...

Incidentally(back to recall numbers) this might frighten some CA Dems...

I just hope, at the very least, this recall puts an end to the bullshit premise that this state is a haven for liberals.

The only bright spot is that Prop 54 went down in flames.

Was there a liberal Democrat running, or at least one who ran an even moderately viable campaign?

Davis certainly doesn't qualify. Bustamante was uninspiring, and had the party waffling as to whether to back him strongly or not. Camejo was a liberal, but a Green. The next Dem on the list was Larry Flynt, and while I personally would've LOVED to have seen him win...

On a different tact...anybody have any idea why he bothered? I mean, he could've spent some of his own money to actually serve as a "serious" candidate...

I'd hardly regard it as a bullshit premise. I mean, Schwarzenegger's personal character problems and vagueness on the issues aside - his social stance is quite liberal. Pro-gay rights, pro-abortion, supports a ban on assault rifles?

It's impossible to glean Arnie's stance as a politician this early in his career, but I'd wager he's more in the Michael Bloomberg line of Republicanism than the Bush line. Which isn't out of line for California voters on the whole. It's not like Bill McClintock got the landslide, after all.

More than likely just to show the absurdity of the whole situation. I mean, the most hated semi-mainstream pornographer in the country got more votes than a former beloved pop-culture figure, while both of them somehow managed NOT to be the most farcical and ridiculous choices in the field. For a guy who pretty much exists to stir the pot, it must've been irresistable.
