Yom Kippur ends more or less around sundown. When I go to Orthadox services, they usually end around 9pm and I know some Reformed services finish as early as 3 or 4. I imagine Goldberg isn't Orthadox (what with having thsoe big tatoos and all - a no-no for Orthadox Jews) and should finish well before the show begins.

I'm just saying, is all.

Raw Thoughts:

Nice to see the Highlight Reel back....It's nice to know that after the seemingly year-long Test-Steiner feud that they'll end up being partners. Yeesh....The Kane/Hurricane thing was okay....The six-man was pretty un-offensive. At least they showed a backstage segment (while getting in a cheap plug) to attempt to make us care....Ross v.s Coach was just wrong. A "country whipping match?" What's next week, J.R v.s Snow ins a "hogpen match?" As much as I hated watching this, I'll admit, seeing J.R. hit the alleged stunner got a pop from the guys I was watching RAW with and myself....Seeing Christian blow a kiss to the injured chicks was funny. If it had ended there. The curse of WCW productions strikes again!

Looks like they need a girl for the face team for a six-person match. As long as it's not Jacqueline. Daffney, anyone?....So Kane squashes a trained wrestler and former tag-team champion, but he can barely beat the boss's son?....The tag match was all right. Hard to believe the only thing it accomplished was setting up a Henry/Goldberg match next week. I'm a card carrying member of the Playas Club, but even I'm not exactly looking forward to that train wreck....I thought I recognized the name "John Heinrich"....Did anyone else notice that guy dressed as Hogan in the crowd? I cracked up everytime he was on camera and did Hogan's trademark poses....I dislike RVD the more I see him, but I'll give him and Christian some dap; I really enjoyed the main event.

StaggerLee - yeah, it was a pretty hot outfit. Where there not gobs of other woman-flesh in the ring, you better believe I would've described that outfit myself.

geemoney - Um, yeah. From the Fashion Report - "Fan Fashion: a Hogan Cosplay'er in the second row (except he's got Mr. America-style feather boas)." I think it got to be annoying after a while, though. Kinda like "Yeah, we know you're there - go away now."

Fine with me.

Guttman on "The Torch" doesn't seem to feel the same way:

< There was the Triple H angle, which was the night's low point. God forbid the World Title doesn't revolve around Helmsely in his absence. The thing is, I'm not saying that we should pretend that Hunter doesn't exist while he's gone. I'm just saying that the only way we'll truly be able to elevate talent and see what the title picture would be like without the Game is if it's….without the Game. There are countless other angles they can do with Trips being out of action. It doesn't have to involve Goldberg.

But it's not just the Triple H Title obsession that annoys me about this. It's the fact that the Goldberg story is basically on cruise control until H returns. There are not surprises really. There's nothing to really care about. No matter what happens in the next month or two, it isn't important. The only important moment is when Hunter comes back. That's when this angle ends. Basically, Billy G and the World Championship are just sitting tight and waiting for Triple H to come home before they can move on. It has to be this way? Mark Henry's challenge next week does nothing for me.

Wouldn't it be nice to see Goldberg move on to another feud and get an idea of what it would be like to see two new people fight for the World Title without Triple H as even a back story? Other guys have made movies and stepped aside so two fresh faces can play Champion and challenger for a while. Why can't he? >

FINALLY, they do something interesting and unexpected with the Test Steiner feud. THANK YOU!!

Maybe Goldberg will have to walk to the ring with security all around him ala WCW to keep him safe from Bounty Hunters
And I got a question. I was on somas valiums and some booze during Raw last night(as usual). What was the point of the whole Austin talking to the guy with the ticket? I thought that either Austin would get in, or that guy would(and carry out Austin's business). Umm, I don't remember anything coming out of the exchange. Can somebody fill me in?

The saddest part to the whole "Finally, they made the Intercontinental Title seem important again!" thing is that you know that it will totally be negated by the time next week's RAW is off the air. Hey, remember when Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit had that awesome cage match on RAW that could have catupulted both men up to main event status instantly? Do you remember when Angle and Benoit had that awesome match at the Royal Rumble that made Benoit more over then he's ever been, and could have made him a legit main event star in one night? Remember when Rey Misterio and Matt Hardy fought for the Cruiserweight Title in the main event of SmackDown, which ended with Rey's wife crying tears of joy, and everyone taking the belt seriously?

Now, do you remember how they followed up on those things? No? Because they didn't, and I expect this ladder match to be the same deal. Oh well. Still a good match.

And on a side note, I love the idea of turning Steiner heel. A little out of nowhere, yes. But at least I don't have to wretch every time I hear his music. Sure, the matches will still suck, but I should at least be entertained by his pre-match antics. I just hope WWE lets Steiner be the psycho-path he played in WCW (to the point that he would jump over the guardrails to get in fans' faces), which got him super over.

Al, NOOOOOOOOO!!! You cut your hair?!?!?!? No-no-no-no-no!

Jericho was on a roll all night. "Look at all the people here tonight!" (I don't know why I love that.) Putting Mr Jolly & Rotund into the Walls of Jericho -- tee-hee. His match commentary was killer.

Everything Austin was pretty much a "What's the point?" for me here. He's suspended, but he does whatever he wants anyway? Maybe we're going somewhere -- I hope.

He sure sounded like it to me too! Hopefully he wasn't really, & it's plotline. Although it's not apparent to me how "I was drunk at the time" would help his case with the Board of Directors.

It's bad enough when things don't add up from one week to the other, but when it doesn't add up from one minute to the other. That's phaked up. Why on earth at 9:18PM Steiner didn't care but at 9:21PM all of a sudden he cares?!.
Made no sense to me either. And don't forget, at 9:17PM Steiner was refusing to so much as accept a tag from Test. Yeeesh. (Test was good though!)

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy Al & Coach on commentary?? Yeah, they're not perfect -- give them a little time -- but they're sooooo much better than the alternative!!! I really liked that they could be heels in their plotline, but still be against beating up women & small children. Commentators with dimension -- what a concept!

"That kid did nothing to Kane." Tee-hee.

I thought Kane's promo was awesome. He does excellent psycho. The exchange with Hurricane flowed really well, & threatening the kid to lure down Hurricane was very well done. (Not sure where you find a kid that won't be emotionally scarred for life. :-) ) We knew Rosey would be running in for the save, but that's OK.

Couple of tiny things in the Cade/Jindrak/Maven exchange. 1) Cade was playing Shawn Michaels (winning) & Jindrak was playing Chris Jericho -- didn't Shawn train Garrison? Cute. 2) J: "Just because you stayed up all last night in the hotel room & practiced." C: "More productive than what you were up to last night." J: "Hey, don't hate me because I'm single." Tee-hee. 3) My goodness! Cade can speak! If they ever decide to give him a personality, he might actually be able to manage it. (If ever.)

6-man was pretty fun. At one point it occurred to me that Maven's the most WWE-experienced of the whole group! Looked to me like Jindrak was really pissed off at the end, & it looked like it was targeted at Cade. I sure didn't see what he might have been annoyed with. Maybe Garrison set up the finisher too soon? Maybe he was just pissed at himself for nearly missing the top rope spot onto Sly. Dunno.

I'm guessing that was not the same John Heidenreich (monitor.ca) who's a PhD at IBM.

Bounty on Goldberg -- OK, maybe we can get something interesting out of that.

No-no-no! I didn't want to see a Coach/JR match, & I certainly didn't want to see JR win. I feel like I've been bait-n-switch'd. What was the point of this whole announcer feud to just get us back to "Puppies!" & "Jezebels, buh gawd." Jericho said, "This is absolutely disgusting." I'm with you, Chris. Add onto that more pointless, unentertaining Austin -- if I liked football, I'd have been gone.

"Puppies are back! A whole ring full of them." Fuck you, Lawler. Although I swear, while Lawler's doing that, JR saying "How rude." & "Absolutely class-less" about a wrestler promo-interruption & double-team -- that's just too much cognitive dissonance for me.

Maybe I'll see if I can get figure out how to get my TV to the SAP channel, & watch the rest of the show in spanish.

Surprisingly, I too quite like Steiner as a heel. Not only is it just more natural to him (have you ever read an article or interview where he DIDN'T come off like an asshole), but his matches will improve tenfold. A lumbering powerhouse dominating a match works better as a heel, and Scotty plays this up very well. The last couple of months in WCW with him as champ were golden (well...they weren't but look at what else was going on in that company). He had great matches with Booker T, DDP, Sting, and Goldberg. If he could work as well as that again, I honestly wouldn't mind he and Test as Tag Champs, or even another semi-main event push (don't, by any means put the title on him, but build him for a hyped TV main event).

Actually Steiner's reign at the end of WCW *was* golden. He was involved in an intense feud with Goldberg, one that I wanted to see continue. Call me knuts but I really liked the direction WCW was going with him as a main heel champ. It should be interesting to see what they do with him as a heel, since that was what everyone expected him to be when he first came over.

They didn't show how, but Austin got the guys ticket, enabling him to sit ringside for the JR/Coach match.

It was a way to get Jon Heidenreich on TV.

Although, let me say this, Heidenreich used to tag with Nathan Jones. And Jones was the good member of the team. Live in fear.

Why was Steiner so upset about her costing them the tag titles? Hadn't he cost them the titles about thirty seconds before she did, when he pulled Test out of a cover?

They're now actively encouraging us to look at the past and question unexplained shifts in character?

Rob Van Dam does press slams now?

Victoria has found an outfit that make her even hotter?

Something I'm wondering about, namely why no one's considered it:

Maybe Steiner still hates Test, and is just pissed at Stacy for putting him in the situation of being Test's bitch? I didn't see the segment, but based on the recaps I read, it sounded like it could be that he was mad that she cost him the match at Unforgiven, not that night.

Oh, and as for the announcing situation... I really think that it won't improve until the crowd starts booing the SHIT out of JR and Lawler. They're faces, so maybe that'll send JR a message.

I know, and it kills me that EVERY time J.R. comes out for a "match", or to scratch his nuts in the middle of the ring or whatever, the crowd goes apeshit for him. I just start shaking my head in disappointment.

At the moment, Scotty does still hate Test. And we might be going someplace more than just a straightforward heel turn. (That might be a bit convoluted for a Scott Steiner plotline, but what the heck.) However, Scott did specifically include that night's match in the promo content:

Gesturing toward the fallen Test. "Way to go, Stacy. [We?] screwed'm again. Not that he didn't deserve it, 'cause I don't like him anyways. Now I know you're not gonna go ask for your forgiveness. But what about me? Do you want to know if I forgive you? 'Cause after all, you did cost me the match at Unforgiven. And you did just cost me the World Tag Team Titles. And now you want to know if I forgive you? Hell no." Stacy starts to bail, Scott grabs her by the hair, drags her back so he can slam her. Test rallies enough to be amused, as Al & Coach sell that beating up women is bad.

Now, Scotty sometimes misspeaks, but that was very deliberately delivered, with pregnant pauses all around -- it's not like he was in a tizzy at the moment.

Great episode. The Tyler Breeze music video is hilariously campy. I'm quite surprised they haven't paired him with Rick Martel, even for a one-off, but maybe they'll go that way when he debuts on the main roster. Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger?
