Any and all reviews can be summed up by one word: Awesome.

The CAW, while not as extensive as Smackdown!; SYM, is excellent.

The Gameplay is phenominal. Better than Smackdown!, and unless THQ has revamped it as well, better than Raw.

The only oddity is the story mode, amply named "Revenge" mode. You go around non-wrestling venues disrupting Vince McMahon's life. Is it odd to throw construction workers off of buildings? Yes. Is it even stranger that you and a friend can play on said rooftop, and when you get thrown off you just walk back onto the scene from a door? YES. Is it fun, in a funky sort of Streets of Rage, Final Fight way? YES. Some of the missions, however can prove to be very frustrating, such as beating up 3 signs that say "Wrestlemania" on them, and it seems the signs are made of teflon. Meanwhile, you have Rikishi and a Security Guard chasing after you, distracting you so you don't complete your mission in the 5 minutes time alloted.

Graphics and Sound are sensational. The ability to customize every single camera shot and angle of your entrance is complex, but in a good way.

Also, I appreciate the fact you have to use real wrestlers before creating your own becomes any fun. See, the amount of attribute points you get is piss-poor, so you have to go out with your favorite WWE Superstar and earn some for your zany looking dude in the pirate hat with a constant stream of water pouring out of his ear (Yes, there are some really bizarre things available in CAW, ranging from said fountain pouring of water to smoke to flames, to working buzzsaws and police hats. Spider man may be created, BTW.)

Okay, after playing for a full 12 hours STRAIGHT (the game is that good, on the verge of No Mercy good), a few, um, Easter Eggs, I suppose.

1. Kane's video for his entrance shows the unmasked Kane, but the Kane in the game is not. Even stranger, his music is his old music, the one he had without lyrics.

2. Speaking of Music, Edge got the Rob Zombie song, Hogan got Hendrix, but Matt Hardy comes out to crap (his music is actually a favorite of mine ). Also, Booker T and Flair's music are both 100% authentic to real life. Dudley's have their Old Old Music (Original entrance theme) due to no rights from Powerman 5000.

3. The Grappling system is perfect. Weak grapples have that Smackdown, arcade feel to them, and Strong grapples have a No Mercy feel.

4. Tons upon tons more moves included in the game. Closest to Wrestlemania 2000 here, in amount of choice, that is.

5. The missions of Revenge mode are very tricky. I HIGHLY suggest working at making a souped up CAW with full stats to tackle them. (Getting those full stats, however, is the trick itself.)

6. The Referee will climb to the top of the cell with you now, but DO NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES put him through it. It's sort of the same idea as attacking the chickens in a Zelda game.

7. The simulation engine is awesome. Two players of similar proficiency (my brother and me) went one on one, Goldberg vs. Rey Mysterio. Needless to say, Mysterio did most of the offense, and pulled out the duke in the end of a near 24 minute match. However, in the rematch, I pulled off a spear/Jackhammer combo and pinned him in less than a minute.

I bought this game today, and I will talk more about it later in the week (after some time to really play it), but here is my rage-filled feelings.

FUCK REVENGE MODE! I hate this crap; it doesn't belong in a wrestling game. I am sick of that destroy the WM signs challenge, and the current impossible mission of choice is the second mission in the "harbor." You have to fight off a never ending array of generic guys, all the while punching them off of cages into water. If you make it to the top, you have to face 3 guys at one time, and attempt to knock 2 or more of them onto the second level below. Then time permitting beat up the third guy enough (which is tough enough to do) and then climb a chain and finally swing over to the top platform.

Again, THIS DOESN'T BELONG IN A WRESTLING GAME! I loved SD:SYM's story mode because it was intricate, long and involved actual WRESTLING. At this point, I think I'm going to ruin my platinum controller because of this stupid poor man's GTA Revenge mode.

One more thing to gripe about. When you get knocked out of the ring in the exhibition Royal Rumble match, YOU ARE DONE. That's right, you can't get back in. So you're stuck watching the computer or starting all over. What a gyp.

Time to calm down and take the ritalin. Sorry about the vitriol, but this is amazingly annoying. I guess I should have rented the game first.

Torch, a hint for the Second Harbor mission: Don't throw them off the cage thingy. Knock the crap out of them so they stay down for a really long time, but don't throw them off. So long as you stick with the original 3 guys, it should be a piece of cake (throwing them off the top to the bottom floor when their spirits are dark blue and they've taken a massive beating makes getting to the top VERY easy.)

In fact, not "killing" the guys in Revenge mode seems to be a distinct strategy I've picked up. Dealing with only one fresh man at a time is very easy.

As for the Mall WM sign bashing, I really do think the programmers were supposed to set the time to 10 minutes, not 5. I did beat it, however, with a super CAW. Just run around, ignoring the people trying to stop you, and focus only on the signs, running from sign to sign, beating on them a little bit at a time. That's the only help I can give you.

The real pain in the ass missions are the one in the parking lot where you have to swing from chain to chain (again, not killing but beating the tar out of the lesser guys here is a great strategy), the mission where you have to use a crate to climb on top of a crane at the harbor (I believe 2 missions past the one you're on) where 3 guys continually beat on you while you have to run a crate to the top of a flight of stairs, climb it, then climb onto something else (AGAIN, beat up, but only eliminate the actual WWE Superstar, as he'll be replaced by a wuss), and the final harbor mission, where a WWE Superstar, some random crap Boss character (Imagine the "jobber" characters from the ECW games) and an Agent. Again, here, toss the WWE Star overboard, and you just have the jobber and the two worker guys beating on you while you beat down a door comparable to the one Stephanie was locked in.

And yes, the Revenge mode was rediculous, and had no real place in a Wrestling game, but I have this weird notion that the heads up at Titan wanted an action game, and rather than release a separate game, we got Wrestle Theft Auto in with Wrestlemania. But, seeing as how I was always a nut for Streets of Rage and Final Fight, I love it.

Oh, and the little levels you get from the Revenge mode in exhibition are sweet. While not straight up wrestling, they are pretty fun (especially 4 player mode with the harbor: Boat level where you have to climb a bunch of poles to get to the belt.)

Hope I've been of some help.

Note; upon finishing this post, I realized I may want to write a FAQ for Gamefaqs or something, seeing as how I've already beaten it.

In the construction site mission, has anyone gotten past that Controls level, where you have to protect the controls to the wrecking ball? It's the second last level in that mission. I can't stop them from climbing up - my best time so far has been 2:24 left.

I've beaten the whole Revenge mode. It's cool, because your CAW's can do more things after this.

Easiest mission is the last one, where you have to fight Vince McMahon.

However, I have this question.

Has anybody elses copy of the game been telling you "file corrupted" and have to create a new file? Something similar happened with No Mercy when it first came out, deleting all saved progress on the pack, and now it seems it's self deleting the save data on the memory card this time around. If anybody else has encountered this, or know of any sites that report video game bugs, let me know please. I know it's not the memory card, because all the rest of the save data is kosher.

Ok, Lexus, just how the fuck do you beat the second level on the Harbor? I knock the fuck out of all 3 guys, throw them off the roof of the cell to the ground, and they STILL get me before I can get up the chain... and this is using a stats-maxed CAW.

After FINALLY beating the goddamned construction site, I "look forward" to the next 3 levels. Tell me, is it really worth beating this? How do you mean our CAW's can do more?

If it still isn't working, I offer this advice.

One, make sure they land on the platform below on the first level. If that is the case you're talking about (and I believe you are) and they still keep coming, try knocking them off the structure completely for a while. Some levels (such as the parking garage) actually run out of security guys, but I've never personally done this, just read from others online. It should be noted that I spend about half the mission beating up on the guys, and land in TWO of two or more kinds of finishers each (three or more of the same finisher acts to wake them up in a "well once too often" kind of way). Then, I stand a healthy distance from the edge of the structure and Irish Whip them. By the time I get high enough to swing to the platform, which is not all the way to the top, there are people at the bottom waiting for me. I'm usually high enough to swing to the ledge and dangle, and climb up.

Hope I can be of some help kaz, as I have been just as frustrated as you, if not more, since I got this ego thing with the game thinking I shouldn't be having such a hard time. I spent about 12 hours straight (that's enough time to beat Rampage) per session on my days off (I enjoy real life at night). 2 hours a night when I work.

The rest of the missions in the harbor are cake compared to this one, so there's hope on the horizon.

-After FINALLY beating the goddamned construction site, I "look forward" to the next 3 levels. Tell me, is it really worth beating this? How do you mean our CAW's can do more?-

I can't really answer for everybody. Aside from earning enough money to buy half the Shopzone out, you also unlock 6 more "bonus" missions in the Warehouse level that you can opt to play for more cash, but are unnecessary for further completion. The final mission, fighting Vince at WrestleMania, is the easiest mission there is, and afterward, you're privy to a cutscene where somebody who may be Tazz helps you out. If you feel those are lofty enough to justify spending a lot of time doing strange shit that even Vince Russo would laugh about, go for it.

The final perk, however, would be the expanded CAW. Normally, in CAW mode, in moves, there are some techniques that show up in question marks. No, I'm not talking the spots on the list of moves that get filled when you buy the moves from the Shopzone. I mean the question marks you see when you pick a special and your striking moves. In the special screen, it looks like this;

Frong Grapple
???
Back Grapple
???
Weapon Grapple.

When you beat Revenge mode, those question marks are replaced by your EX, or Super Finishers. They're performed by pressing L+R+B+A to activate special mode, instead of just B+A, and soak up ALL THREE of your finishers rather than just one. Yes, you must have all three finishers charged to pull these off. After you activate it and do you're little taunt, you hit B+A, like normal, only you'll perform a different finisher, and it's power will put anybody out for the count(Brock's SSP, the Taker doing the Tombstone are examples). Sadly, you don't get an expanded list of moves special for this (the Glass Bridge would have rocked ass, or at least an Orange Crush), but as I said, you're guarenteed to get a pinfall after landing it.

Also, as you've probably noticed, there are a lot of the similar tri-? on the striking moves. Beating Revenge mode allows you to have a combo of up to 10 attacks. This isn't as handy, IMO, or at least I haven't found a way to make it work for me, seeing as how they'll either fall by the 4th strike or counter eventually.

That's cool. I was hoping you could tell me how best to go about beating this level?

Oh, and for the Harbour level with the chain you climb up... it's best to beat up all three guys on the top (find a way that works for you), and then throw them all off one after another. You'll have all the time in the world to climb the chain. Go all the way up, and then face the platform where you want to jump to. Presto.

In the protect the controlls mission, I do my best to beat the crap out of the guys. There's no real strategy here, other than straight up kicking the hell out of both guys and being VERY quick on the Z button to look at the next guy fast. Some tips; quick moves, so you can get back to defending the wall, and tossing the wrestlers will bring back the jobber characters, who are considerably weaker.

I finally got my souped up CAW (RAVEN!), and beat every level in Revenge mode. I've also calmed down somewhat, but I still think that this game is going back for store credit towards either Madden 04 or F Zero GX.

The real reason is that in terms of wrestling games, I'm going to be the only one in my apartment playing the game. With SD:SYM, there was so much to do in the story mode, that the one-player replayability was off the charts. With these not very fun Revenge modes, I don't really feel like playing them over and over. The graphics are better in this game, but the button control is difficult and the blood factor is not enough to keep playing the game.

As per the controls level, I actually beat it the first time. What I did was stayed on the left side of the wall they try to climb, and I kept both guys in front of me. This works well so you don't have to be in-between two guys, which will allow them to double team you. So you just have to fight off the one guy with punches while the other guy might get halfway up the wall. Once the guy is knocked down, just grab the wall and knock the other guy off. There is also a little cheating here as the first guy might be stuck behind the downed wall climber and the computer AI takes a while before jumping over the downed guy. That was my strategy.

As Lexus said, definitely use a super CAW and you should eventually get it done. For the second harbor mission, I finally beat it by keeping all three guys on the top level. I revved up the special move, and then hit two of the guys with rapid Raven Effect DDTs. Then just hit the third guy with a heavy grapple move, and climb for your life. This will probably again require some luck as occasionally the guy will get up but not pull on the chain. If you swing right, you should be able to finish it eventually.

It WOULD make sense only because Matt is there... but this guy looks nothing like John and EVERYTHING like Josh (who had that "bowl" haircut during Tough Enough 1, not to mention that he's been a WWE employee for almost two years now, dating back to when he did those updates during RAW broadcasts in Canada). John still has his natural all-black hair in OVW, like he had during the show, so I don't see how the tutorial guy would be confused as John.

Either way, I'm not here to nitpick or argue. I don't care who he is -- I just want a way to use them!! LOL. It's like a tease having them there - especially Matt, who only gets involved in two moves during the tutorial, I believe.

[rhetorical] Given the option of being able to use/earn Matt Cappotelli and Josh Matthews, or not using them, which would most people choose? [/rhetorical]

In Revenge mode, I used Brock. Whenever I needed to climb something, I would beat them up for a bit, then hit the guys w/ F5's, and I'd usually have enough time to climb w/out being shaken off.

Overall, an OK game. I still prefer the N64 games to these. Aside from a few instances, the Revenge levels weren't too hard.

Hmmmm.. Okay, I have a CAW question:

How do you alter the size (read: height) of a CAW?

I've looked through all the options but can't find anything. In WM 18, I was able to adjust the overall height, but unless I'm blind, I can't find it in WM 19.
