I had a few areas I wanted to touch on so I started a new thread.

Mosley/DLH II: I finally saw the fight and DLH put on a boxing clinic. BUT Mosley did win the fight because he IMO was the effective aggressor. He was the one coming forward making the fight. Hardly showed DLH any respect for his power while DLH seemed to give too much respect. For the type of style that DLH was fighting, he should have knocked out Mosely. And if he wasn't slap boxing much of the time, he probably would have. Like I stated before, maybe if he cries loud and long enough, there'll be some changes in the scoring.

Byrd/Oquendo: I don't know what the hell happened there. The only thing I saw from Oquendo that I didn't like is the way that he kept backing up. He was the challenger and he should have kept taking the fight to Byrd. He had to beat Byrd, Byrd didn't have to beat him. Other than that, it was a pretty bad screw job.

Jones/Tarver: Alls I can say is, check out the press conference to announce the fight. Roy is either scared or he's gonna hurt that boy.

I wish I could make it neat like you other guys but I can't. Tips are always appreciated.

That Jones tirade is the greatest press conference ever. I was hearing Roy go off in my head. I wish they were fighting tomorrow.

The cynic in me thinks they screwed Oquendo so bad to say "Here...you think De La Hoya got screwed? THIS is a guy getting screwed." Even Byrd, during the announcement of the scoring, said "he won" twice. I couldn't BELIEVE Oquendo lost.

I also don't buy Mosley's reasoning that he was surprinsed to get the decision because Vegas is a "hometown" for Oscar. I will always believe he knew De La Hoya was getting the decision because he lost the fight, and I didn't see anything in the replay to make me change my mind. I thought while Shane landed the harder shots, De La Hoya outboxed him for eight rounds AND won round 10.

Washington Huskies, 2-1. Why, oh why, did the Ducks have to beat Michigan? Those Duck fans will NEVER let us hear the end of it.

Byrd vs Oquendo was just robbery. The judges couldn't bring themselves to put the "heavyweight title" on a club fighter. I kept waiting for Byrd to do something and he waited until about round 10. I thought Byrd showed more aggressive offense than I've ever seen him use in those last 3 rounds though. He's so passive that he usually puts me to sleep. I don't need him to be a big puncher, but he's so defense oriented, it often seems like he's virtually inactive during a round sometimes. I appreciate the fact that he's a cerebral analyst of his opponents, but I sure wish he'd put together a few combinations.

Dut dut....cerebral ASSASSIN.

Byrd got whipped, and boxing suffers yet another screwjob decision.

So how does that explain the John Ruiz title run?

One thing I felt like happened in Byrd-Oquendo that I seem to see a LOT and maybe happened in De La Hoya-Mosley to some extent: Guys win early rounds big (though Oscar didn't win big against Shane), lose a bit of momentum and don't look AS impressive and lose middle rounds that they actually seem to have won.

A classic example of this is Gatti-Ward I. I love Micky Ward, but Gatti dominated rounds 1 and 2 and the start of round 3, then Micky came on at then end of round 3 after showing nothing in the first two rounds, and wins round 3 even though Gatti really controlled most of the round. I thought Gatti won quite a few of the middle rounds, but not the way he did the first two. Watching the replay the next day I thought Gatti won at least seven rounds of the first fight, but he lost the decision because he looked TOO GOOD at the beginning of the fight and suffered by comparison.

Y'see, this is what *I* get for skimming the lists and not reading all the episode summaries. That episode was, I believe, from last season, and was debuted at Christmas time.
