From Meltzer....

Don't expect another 60 minute match on television for a long time, after last night's Smackdown delivered a 3.2 rating, which is below its recent average for a show with almost all wrestling and little in the way of outside skits.

I was truly hoping that this show would draw a bigger than usual rating, and maybe get WWE to wake up a bit. Sigh. 3.2 isn't that bad considering it was against a new Survivor, but man....

Hey, look at it this way: If next week's show gets them a 2.2, we'll all be laughing.

That's about what I expected. You can't expect to keep people's interest in the same two guys for an hour unless they paid for it. Especially not with stiff competition from the other networks.

Wisconsin Badgers: 2-1 (Well...Obviously...Casino Management Majors make good football players....)

Minnesota Vikings: 2-0 (That's a bit more like it. Good game all around...Though they shouldn't have let Chicago get their hopes up.)

So I guess next week, we're back to the same old crap with Undertaker, A-Train, Big Show, and a load of shitty sports entertainment gracing our screens.

I hope I'm wrong on that one.

LS: You're sure going into the women's locker room will get us on TV?
GD: Absolutely! And if it doesn't, I've got Max Mini ready to come out of retirement. HE'LL get us on Raw! Nothing spells ratings like MIDGETS!

Not to give excuses but there was a hurricane that ripped through the east coast Thursday Night. Plus Survivor season premire must have taken effect as well, even though I can't believe how Survivor still has legs after all this time, but that's another story... But saying all that, a 3.2 has to be viewed as a disapointment.

There's certainly an argument of watching 2 guys for a match you know that's going to last an hour might be a bit much for the casual fan, who might flip around and come back in the last 10 minutes for the finish... I don't know if that arguement rings true or not. Wouldn't that be like saying people just tune in the last 10 minutes of a "reality" show just to see who is voted off?

Well seeing how Cena's on my latest B*tch list I'll just conclude that when people heard Cena's rap they all turned out by his pathetic display. This is my angle on it =)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Angle vs Brock has never popped a number. Buyrate, rating, live attendance. Ever.

Right, because the people that didn't know about it from the Internet could hear through the bleep. Cena did something that's commonplace on multi-platinum albums, so I don't think that's going to run too many people off.

I'd chalk it up to fan disinterest in the storyline as a whole. Sure, they were tied at one victory a piece going in, but the actual feud has been pretty bland, especially when you factor in the big gap in the middle where Kurt was out from surgery.

I think it would be pretty tough to convincingly book an Iron Man match for a feud that's been going less than a year, let alone a feud that hasn't even been running solid for that time.

Putting an Iron Man match on TV was a gamble to begin with. I think it is hard to get a casual fan to watch one match for 60 mintues in the first place, but then throw in 3 chances for that fan to turn the station (commercial breaks), and then they will. I think the match should have been saved for a PPV.

About Cena, there are all these rumors about him not getting the US Title or not even getting a shot at that title after the comment. If so, that is BS. In the past year, WWE has done some of the most offensive angles/skits ever. But if Vince and Co. didn't want to push Cena in the first place, this is a convenient excuse.

I think a common misconception from "we the IWC" is that our opinions add up to any noticeable change in ratings or buyrates. We love great wrestling and assume, given the chance, it will draw. But it never does. Considering Brock Lesnar has only been a round for a year and half and it's still arguable that he's established, it was a big risk to plaster him all over TV for a hour. Especially with Kurt Angle, who doesn't have a great history of being a huge ratings spiker. These guys aren't established as Shawn or Bret or Rock or Hunter, and what's more, they don't have an issue like those guys had. There didn't really seem to be a reason for this match, it just seemed to be something they wanted to do.

I've heard no rumors stating that he's missing a championship match BECAUSE of that comment, just that they're not sure if he's fighting Eddie next week. I'm fairly sure tha, if they intend to depush and punish him, they'd have simply pulled his promo from SmackDown altogether.

Sometimes I ask myself why I watch WWE after all the crap it's given me. HLA, necro, HHH, and so on. And then it hits me. That one simple phrase that can be modified and used for anything that gets you down, yet makes you keep coming back.

Every episode has the potential to be the best one ever, and I'll be damned if I'm going to miss it after sitting through this shit.

It was a taped promo on a taped show. If they didn't like the comment, it wouldn't have even made the air. Plus he's said that they give him a direction for his rap, he writes one, they look at it and usually he has to tone it down.

I doubt we need worry too much about this low rating. There's a long ratings history already that shows what draws and what doesn't, and, sadly, promo segments from the big names have outdrawn good wrestling for a long while now.

WWE knew that they weren't going to pop a rating with the Iron Man Match. It served other purposes that were valuable.

1. The title changed hands in a solid match that people will remember. This more than anything gets a champ over.

2. Brock is now firmly established as a go-to guy who can hang with the best.

3. The Angle/Lesnar feud of 2003 goes from a good feud to a great one, almost certainly the best of the year. This only helps both guys get over as superstars on the level of Rock/HHH/Austin/Undertaker.

Getting Angle and Lesnar more over is really the gist of it. By giving these guys an Iron Man match on television, the WWE says to us that they are taking Lesnar and Angle seriously, so we can too. Even though us Internet folk are into Angle and Lesnar, most fans don't see them as on the same level as the old guard. This Iron Man Match goes a long way toward solving that. Angle and Lesnar will be back on TV on Thursday night to bigger pops and heat than ever, and WWE'll know that the Iron Man Match wasn't a mistake.

Either that or A-Train will open by destroying Benoit, followed by the APA upsetting Los Guerreros for the tag titles, and the show will close with Undertaker beating Lesnar in a "the only move you can do is an F5" match.

This is the way I feel.

For me the show had no real flow, it was just match, Kurt/brock video montage, match, Kurt/Brock video Montage, that was basically all the happened on the show. And the Iron man match was a BIG downer, I was expecting a great match and all I got was "watchable".

Fuck the devil, I'm the only one you need to worry about.

They definately meant Bret Hart. This was way back when the WWF did the tv tapings here in Brantford, Ontario all the time. Now, they haven't set foot here in 10+ years. So my earlier time estimate was probably too light, probably 20 years ago.
