Let me just preface this story by saying that I have the coolest fiancee, ever. For Valentine's Day, she went on EBay and ordered me a boxed set of action figures of the Four Horsemen. They finally arrived today, and I must say, they're pretty freakin' cool. Since all the WCW figures I've seen have been pretty crappy, I kinda didn't get my hopes up for these, but I was pleasantly surprised. The molds are good, so the figures are pretty decent representations of the wrestlers, although Dean Malenko looks like a ninja for some reason. The articulation is kinda crappy though. Arms have a very limited turning radius, and the legs barely move at all. Anyway, the set contains Ric Flair (who is made to look so young, I thought it was a David Flair figure at first) complete with shiny "Nature Boy" robe, Chris Benoit, complete with mullet, Dean Malenko with Kung-Fu grip, and Steve McMichael. Now, I opened the box up, and I did what any sane, thinking wrestling fan would do with these toys: I had all the figures gang up in a beatdown on Mongo. At first, I thought I could have Benoit put him in a crossface, but due to poor articulation, it proved impossible. A Figure-Four or Texas Cloverleaf would be out of the question, since the knees on the figures don't turn. I even tried to have Deano put a Jackhammer on him, but they kept falling over. Poor vertical base. I settled on Benoit doing a swandive headbutt (the only signature move I could get ANY of them to do) between Mongo's shoulderblades. Dean proceeded to stomp the small of his back. Of course, that left Ric with nothing to do, so I tried to make it look like he was strutting, but again, due to poor articulation, he looks more like Crash Holly walking to the ring. I'll post some pics when I get a chance, it actually looks quite amusing.

These can actually STILL be found if you scour your local KayBee toy stores - usually on clearance for $9.99 - or is it $7.99? What I'm saying is I hope she didn't get taken!

(I got mine on clearance at Kmart for Christmas 2000 - still haven't opened the box)

Have you seen the new WWF figures that are scaled and their entire bodies are real scanned? Now those figures kick ass! The Benoit figure is particularly good, it's even shorter than the other figures in the range but built like a brick shithouse. The Austin figure also deserves an honourable mention. I can't wait for an authentic RVD or Flair, these figures just blow the previous series away. Also, the articulation on these figures make for better *cough* match recreations than the ToyBiz WCW figures and the Tron figures ever did.

Ahh, it's always nice to see a bunch of grown men talking about playing with toys. .

I got an awful, horrible, bendy Man-Chyna for $.99 at Pic-N-Save this weekend.

We have the 4 horsemen here at Kaybee for $9.99 as well. It didn't come with a David Flair though - so you may have gotten a different set.

I've seen that set kicking around a couple of toystores in the bargain wrestling section. I've almost bought it a couple times just because the Malenko looks pretty cool. I just can't get over the fact that Ric Flair looks about 12.

I like the new figures mentioned above but the Austin seems way to big compared to Rock and Kane. I'm looking forward to the Booker T myself.

Ric REALLY looks young....with the haircut he looks more like Reid Flair than David, but I don't think Reid is that jacked.
BTW, $9.99? Crap! We paid $17.50 with shipping. Ah well, I won't tell her. She felt really cool after making her first EBay purcahse, and it is something I like...

Good call on not telling her, no reason to make her feel bad after she was nice enough to get it for you.

Anyway, I saw the same set and was tempted to get it, but decided not to, if it had Arn in there instead of Mongo or Malenko I would've gotten it in a heartbeat though.

As for the recent WWF action figures, they are really good, I have two Benoits (one comes with this boom box that plays his music and one comes with Kurt Angle's medal) and a Eddie Guerrero and Raven. The Raven is probably the best looking wrestling action figure I've ever seen.

If anybody is intereted www.wrestlingfigs.com has some pictures of some new wrestling figures that will be coming out soon. I believe this will be the first set that will have some of the WCW/ECW guys since they joined the WWF. The one that I think is supposed to be RVD doesn't look all that good, neither does the Booker T. The Lance Storm and Hurricane look pretty good. And some of them (especially Tajiri and Big Show) look perfect.

I also saw, but didn't purchase that set. Wasn't there also a Sting set that had Surfer Sting, Crow Sting and Wolfpac Sting?

I actually don't own any wrestling action figures, but quite a few superhero ones.

However, my favourite is the Fat Bastard from Austin Powers that sits atop my computer desk. Push a button on his chest and you hear a whoopee cushion-like noise and then him say "Sorry, I farted." Hillarious.

I've seen that Sting set, but I've never been that into Sting so I passed on that as well. I would however love to see an Undertaker set that went through his different looks.

Wow. Thanks for the link Quezzy! That looks like a US title on the Kanyon-a-like too. It's nice to see the real scan technology being put to such good use. Any idea which of these figures will actually make it as far as being released? It's just a shame that they come so close with some figures then louse it up with the little things. An RVD without black wraps (well, or a realistic head)?

Still, those figures look awesome on the whole. I'll look forwards to buying them and keeping them pristine in the packet and definitely not playing with them. Ever.

Heh. My little brother has a Mick Foley Action figure that talks when you twist parts of his body. And for awhile he'd just talk out of nowhere when we didn't even touch him and say, "HEY!". then ten seconds later, "Have a nice day!" I got sorta used to it for awhile. It sucks though cause now it doesn't talk. Man my life is boring.

Well i got that wrestlingfigs.com page from Lance Storm's website. Actually he just gives a link to the picture of his action figure, and by the address of it i figured out the homepage was wrestlingfigs.com. Anyway, Lance said on his webpage that he thinks they come out in May.

That Sting set sounds pretty cool....I'll have to look for it.

I forgot to mention something ridiculously absurd...Steve "Mongo" McMichael has an articulated ponytail. You can flip it to the front for that "[GIGGLE], C'mere, big boy" look, or flip it to the back for that "I'm a big girl now" look.

Just in case anyone is interested, the next set of WWF figures that were mentioned above are up at wrestlingfigures.com
and they're not bad at all. The RVD is a little disappointing, but some of the others, particularly Tajiri, look awesome.

Holy shit! Those action figures are awesome-- particularly the nWo set with (apparently) snap-on nWo T-shirts! I haven't purchased any action figures in a long time, but I might do so now!

Edit: Grr, apparently those shirts aren't snap-on, after all. I hope they do that sometime though, that'd be cool. Saves money from having to make two figures for each nWo member, wouldn't you think?

Radio shack had a white noise generator on display today when I went in. It was not that impressive, but I remember it being on the cheap side of things. I think it had 4 or 5 different settings.
