I agree with you guys about the Filmlook. It just looked kinda fake to me (I also hate the porn movies in 'filmlook' too but that's probably TMI). As for not letting your kids watch MTV ever: I HEAR YA! As much as I loved the Britney-Madonna kiss, I couldn't help but sit there, shaking my head and thinking that we are going to hell in a hand basket. I don't have a time machine, so I can not go back and visit Sodom and Gommorah. But if I could, I'm sure it would look just like the VMAs.

YOu have them stand on the stage with Avril "wont be around next year" Levine and that fat loud Osbourn bitch, and "suprise them" with an award? Hows about bringing Mark Goodman or JJ Jackson back, and have them narrate over some video clips about how they were years ahead of everybody else as far as making a concept video goes. Jeezus fucking Christ MTV, you have one of the few bands still around that MADE YOUR DUMB ASSES and you cant even give them some respect? A token moon man does NOT count.
Methinks someone got fired for screwing up the recap package. Sometimes, Avril y Kelly have a good reason for looking like idiots on stage (namely, there was supposed to be a tribute package, but it wouldn't run).
So Filmlooktm is the official name for that? I remember reading about how, back when it was called 24P, it was a boon for low-budget filmmakers. It wasn't as bad this year, but it's like music videos being shot in letterbox... you're not THAT important. At least with them claiming this was the "pop cultural event of the year", you KNOW they're just going to suck themselves off like that.

That's not as relevant as I first thought, but still, it's that she's pissing away musical talent with lyrical brainfarts. Yeah... that's the ticket.

To any impressionable teenagers who haven't already had your minds perverted by MTV and the rest of the media/entertainment industry: Don't do what they are doing (unless it's for a Girls Gone Wild Video we can purchase for $9.99).

The puppets doing the people's choice award promos were also pretty funny...I presume they're from some MTV show.
Lowlights were the utter lack of awards going to Johnny Cash, the White Stripes and generally anyone with talent. Good Charlotte won the fucking viewer's choice award? What the fucking fuck?

The puppets were from Comedy Central's Crank Yankers. The Eminem/Special Ed bit worked well, especially after Em used Ed's way of conversating in his acceptance speech for the MTV movie awards earlier this year.
And sorry to spoil the Good Charlotte haters, but they won for Viewer's Choice. That only means that more GC fans spent the 99 cents or voted on mtv.com for them to win. Don't pin this one on MTV. Of course I'm glad they won the award.
Speaking of GC, I will admit that their performance wasn't that great. Joel lost his voice midway through the second verse, and they limped to the finish. But still, a hearty Fuck You to Chris Rock for ripping on them RIGHT after the performance. If you want to rip them, that's fine, but not right after they play live for a world-wide audience. Oh, and BTW, Good Charlotte sounds NOTHING like Green Day anyways, so the joke didn't work on top of it.
Britney slipping Madonna the tongue though? Priceless.
(edited by Torchslasher on 30.8.03 2244) Molly, Stacy and Daffney all in WWE? I suddenly lost all my will to complain about anything regarding the WWE. Hope I don't lose my street cred for this.
TS, the greatest Wiener rated 6.1554 ever to live!! Oops, I mean 5.5...4.5?? Oh, dammit! I guess Notorious FAB was right.

The Brian Wilson gig has already been locked up by Axl. He's not gonna be the next MJ, the following just isn't there (Jacko was unbelievably off the chain in his heyday for those who don't remember... there's a reason he calls himself the King of Pop). I guess that leaves Cat Stevens. Poor Justin. Had Cash been there, it would have been phenomenal. MTV would have most likely told him to play a duet of Hurt with Reznor or something, only to have the old bastard turn it into a duet of Ring Of Fire or maybe even Head Like A Hole. That's a cover I want to hear.

Head Like a Hole? Now that WOULD be interesting. OF course, anything would have been cool if Cash was there.

Make sure Molly wins this year! Especially against Sable! Go to WWE.com and vote!

I don't think they'd be "telling" Cash to play anything, and I doubt Reznor was just hanging out backstage in case MTV wanted him and Cash together. And while I respect the guy, I think Cash covering "Head Like a Hole" would be very very awkward.
Knowing MTV, they probably would've asked Cash to appear in the opening with Madonna, Britney and Christina.

So they'd just let Cash out there with an open mic? An old man with opinions and a mouth is still a man with opinions and a mouth regardless of how old he is. And no, of course Reznor wasn't just hanging out backstage in case Johnny showed up. But there was this invention that they called a "jet". It was created a few years ago, maybe you've heard of it? And is covering "Head Like A Hole" that much more awkward than him covering "Hurt" in the first place? Or even "Thirteen" by Danzig? Listen, I'm not saying Cash is my Personal Jesus or anything, but the man is very talented. I'm sure that he would have been able to call upon his years of music experience and figure out a way to make the song work for him. But it's all speculation now isn't it? And is there a more fitting song by NIN for Cash to cover than "Head Like A Hole"? I'm sure that Flea would have been much happier if he had chosen to cover that song. "I'd rather die than give you control." Kinda better and more in tune with the attitude of the Man In Black than "What have I become my closest friend? Everyone I know goes away in the end". But I could be wrong...

Given that the Man in Black is in his 70s, and has seen many, many of his friends die... I think it's highly relevant for him to cover "Hurt." Regarding the song, Cash said something to the effect of "this is the song I would have written about my drug use, if I had Trent's songwriting talent." I'm paraphrasing, but the point is Cash has very much earned that song, made it his, if you will.

My point was that they would probably "ask" Cash to play something, not "tell." Especially given his status and condition.

You mean besides "Hurt"? I'm no authority on Cash's life and times, but I've got good reason to believe Cash is, so I'll trust his choice.
