You know, when I looked at the thread title I thought, "CRZ's talking about Akili Smith, I'll bet." Sure enough. Can't say I'm too surprised he got let go, although he does seems to have that "big guy with a rocket arm we MUST be able to mold into a good QB" thing going for him. Heck, even Ryan Leaf was on FOUR teams (if you count the Seahawks).
Washington Huskies, 2003 Pac-10 football champs. Coming soon.
"Each time I've met Huffington, I wondered if she was not somehow the long-lost daughter of Madame Nicolai Ceaucescu, or a genetic cross between Martha Stewart and Count Dracula. Had this Greek-born harpy lived in medieval times, she would have been sewn up in a bag with a rooster and two snakes and thrown into the nearest river." -- Eric Margolis, Toronto Star
Well, Smith had the opportunity to engineer a game-winning drive last Saturday vs. Carolina...and flopped. He needed to show the coaches something in that situation to help his cause...and he failed.
Hell, he was pretty much just a warm body at camp anyway. Favre/Pederson/Nall is your QB depth chart.
But take heart, Akili Smith fans (both of ya)...several Packer QB's have gone from backing up Favre to starting for other NFL clubs: Ty Detmer, Mark Brunell, Pederson, Aaron Brooks...
Star wipe, and...we're out. Thrillin' ain't easy.

If you can't stick with the Cincinnati Bengals, you're done. No hard feeling, but you're done. Maybe he can come play in Canada, or hit the Arena League.
