He thinks he's Kurt Angle, I'm thinking. Needs more gold ones, though. "How many sumo medals do YOU have???"

KURT E. "TACHIKAZE" RIGHTMYER (I)

He's...wearing a TIE with that?

Website: None

So what the heck does "tachikaze" mean?: "Wind from a sword stroke" or "wind from a swinging sword"

Also: a class of Japanese naval destroyer (guided missile destroyer) Click Here (globalsecurity.org)

Occupation: Middlweight sumo wrester

He ain't heavy: According to amateur rules, "middleweight" is classified as "under 115kg (253 pounds)" for males - see http://www.usasumo.com/sumo/guide.html

You mean there are female sumo wrestlers?: Umm, sure. I guess (telegraph.co.uk). Lotta knockouts (fscclub.com) and I don't mean KO's, yuk yuk. (This link doesn't really fit here (askewreviews.com), but I had to include it anyway)

REAL Occupation: Substitute teacher

Education: Got his BA in English from UCLA in 1996 - at the age of 32

Too late: "...I'm not going to put on my sumo belt and stand before a crowd of reporters and talk about serious issues. I just have to be careful that I don't become part of the freak show."

And you thought running for governor was enough of a delusion of grandeur: Of Schwarzenegger, he said "I'll take him two out of three in the sumo ring."

Overextending a metaphor: Promises to "attack the 800-lb. gorilla of big government from every angle."

But It's a Honour To Just Be Nominated: Up for Pushcart Prize (pushcartprize.com) in Poetry in 2001. How do you get nominated? "Little magazine and small book press editors may make up to six nominations from their years publications by our December 1 deadline. ... There is no entry fee." Looks to me like an excuse to sell more books (amazon.com). And he didn't even WIN!

Everything's on the 'net: Here's a poem he wrote in 1995 (216.239.41.104) - that last line is a KILLER

Who won Big Brother 4, anyway?: "It's the ultimate reality show. You have people from all walks of life running, but the consequences for this are so much greater than who wins 'Big Brother 4.' It's winner take all here."

Not everbody could do it: Taught English in Japan

Why sumo wrestlers make the best governors: "Sumo is a very quick, fast, brutal contest. It requires a great deal of concentration and a razor-sharp mind. It's perfect training, because everything in this state is in turmoil, and it's hard for people to get a grip on it."

Duh?: "No one should get rich off the public till. That's one of my pet peeves. You don't go into public service to get filthy rich."

Hey, how about one more scary photo?: Rightmyer is in the bottom row:

All politicians lie: "We live in a media-saturated culture. I really believe it's possible for an unknown to get his message out."

And finally: "It's not a diaper," he insists. "It's a mawashi."

Quotes stolen from: Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, San Grabriel Valley Tribune

TOMORROW: I *promise* no more R's for a while

Cool pic of the Bastion Booger family reunion....

"Each time I've met Huffington, I wondered if she was not somehow the long-lost daughter of Madame Nicolai Ceaucescu, or a genetic cross between Martha Stewart and Count Dracula. Had this Greek-born harpy lived in medieval times, she would have been sewn up in a bag with a rooster and two snakes and thrown into the nearest river."

The Daily Show send-up they had of him (at least I assume it was the same guy, unless there's more than 1 person campaining for the Sumo vote in California) was absolutely hilarious. Not that there's anything wrong with campaigning sumo wrestlers.

Oh man I didn't even know about this. When did this air and did I miss all the replays already?

It aired a few weeks ago, although they are running repeats this week, so they might replay it.

I am just glad this recall isn't turning into a circus.

Kurt also has the honor of being the two of spades in the California Governor Candidate Deck of Cards.

Go for it. Obviously, not all of the candidates made the deck (there are only 52 cards, and they didn't throw the rest in as jokers).

FYI...

So this guy's Daily Show episode aired last (Thursday) night, so there's a good chance it'll get repeated this weekend.

I apologize if anyone watched that Colin Quinn show based on my recommendation. That really is the worst show on Comedy Central. It's a half-hour of Colin getting pissed off that no one's laughing at his Leno-esque obvious jokes.
