I saw this on AS last night. I have no idea where to even begin but here goes. At the end of Fooly Cooly you are left asking yourself one question "What the hell did I just see?". I either didn't get the plot or there was no plot, the translation was exact and very hard to understand and the art was all over the place. Still the show was awesome. It's a shame it's only 6 episodes.
Blue Armada on the on the other hand I could live without. The best thing about it was the commercial where they ask why all the insects look like a woman's angry crotch.
Acutally, I've always thought the spelled-out way was Furi Kuri.
Anyways, up until Episode 5 it's just "a bunch of stuff that happened". Then there's actually some explaination as to why all these things are happening.
Unfortunately, Episode 6 doesn't answer all the questions. Rather, it's best to look at this series as an excerpt or story-arc from a much larger story. 'Cuz, there IS closure to the weirdness in town, but, well, no closure in the greater scheme of things.
Gosh, even trying to explain the structure of this series is tough.
On another note, I think it'd be kind of tough for someone who hasn't watched other animes to understand all the name-suffixes and other Japanese-isms. Discuss amongst yourselves (or yourself).
I enjoy the show, but it really just shows how perverted and twisted the male dominated Japanese culture is. The main character is what? 12 years old, and he's having all these weird sexual relations with older women. Geez.

A 6 episode Japanese anime series called "FLCL" pronounced "fooly cooly" or "furie curie" in Japanese. It currently airs on adult swim after family guy.

Well, I'm finally taking the plunge after rabid FLCL fanboys pronounced that FLCL was the greatest thing ever made, would change my life and make a man out of me.
The cult that built up around this show . . .frightens me.
So far, I'm ambivalent. It's not bad enough for me to aggressively hate it (No, that will always be "Reign's" place) but there's so much about it that irritates me I can't enjoy it wholeheartedly either.
The animation looks great (except for those "Manga-panel" scenes . . .GRRR. . .STOP THAT) but I wish to Christ they'd just slow down occasionally. The story of the kid dealing with his brother and his weird family and his brother's g/f always putting the moves on him is far more interetsing than that stupid girl on the scooter, and the animators wowing us with sly in-jokes to everything they've read or watched, ever.
In FLCL's defence, the second episode was a LOT better than the first.

While I do enjoy watching FLCL through, I can't say I'm one of the Fooly Cooly Zombies (I know a good number of these individuals, including my roommates) who would, if given the choice between food and FLCL would likely choose FLCL.. its ultimately one of those series that you either worship, or see, initially dislike, and finally settle into ambivalence about.. at least in my experience as an Otaku..
Trogdoooor!! Trogdooor!! Trogdor was a man.. I mean.. he was a dragon man.. I mean.. he was just a dragon.. But he was still..
TROGDOOOOOR! Trogdooor!
Burninating the countryside.. Burninating the peasants.. Burninating all the peopleeeee in their tatchroofed cottages! THATCH ROOFED COTTAGES!!
I finally watched my tape of the second episode tonight, and overall I think it's been pretty entertaining.
The first episode is really fucked up though. Between the beginning scene with all the sex, and the almost seizure inducing Manga-panel (Thanks for the name for that, Enojado Viento ) scenes with the two people constantly yelling "Furi Kuri", I thought I might have to give up on it.
I am glad I did not, as the second episode was much better. I am now emotionally invested, so now I have to watch it until the end. (But, that's not a problem; it only goes until next week )

I'm loving the show so far, bizarre-ness and all. It's the only thing I've seen so far that was more insane than Ping Pong Club, and it's considerably less disturbing to boot.

Anytime. Always happy to slap a label on anything I find annoying.
Episode 3 was on last night and It was a lot better than second which was a lot better than the first.
I find the less they have that annoying pink-haired girl with the bass guitar on the show (or failing that, just never have her talk or do anything to remind me of how goddamned grating she is) the better the show gets.

I will have to disagree. I think she is the best part of the show, as in a "what will she do" & "who is she", kind of way. I do agree that she is a bit grating, but the whole show moves at 100 MPH and I think it fits. It's like a full season anime condensed into 6 episodes.
On a good note (and I am taking this from the "Adult Swim" text messages between shows) is that they only made *one* edit, and it isn't until the 6th episode. Nice to see them not make to many edits.

It is Blue Gender. (which has been edited so far)

Anyone watching Blue Gender still? I figure I'll post this here, instead of starting another anime thread.
I'd like to point out that when Marlene teaches Yuji how to shoot, he gets squeezed against her busom and they edited it out. Which is funny for 3 reasons. 1.The show just SKIPPED forward 20 seconds. 2.Haru on FLCL can have an orgasm from Android Dad's chin massage. 3.They openly admit they see vaginas when they look at the Blue, but breasts? FEAR THEM!
Honestly, I think it's a Funimation thing. The editor there must be so used to clipping that he's paranoid about ANYTHING objectional.

PLEASE just give it time. I'm rewatching the early eps, and YES they are brutal. The worst parts are over though. Just hold on till Lisa Ortiz shows up. If that can't sway you, I don't know what can.

I caught an episode of FLCL while I was on vacation last week, and it thoroughly caught my attention in a "What the HELL WAS THAT?" kind of way. Which is a good thing.
According to the Adult Swim schedule, the series reboots tomorrow night, replaying all six episodes. Definite tape alert.

I am still watching Blue Gender. It comes off as a bit slow after watching FLCL going at full speed all the time, but what wouldn't?
I think it has been pretty good so far. I will tape and watch it through until the end, unless it gets *really* bad. It was on my "check it out" list anyway, and when Adult Swin was going to air it, that saved me from trying to find it elsewhere.
In fact, if it weren't for the reminder I set to start tapeing Blue Gender about a month before hand (and checking the Cartoon Networks schedule), I would have missed FLCL completely, which would have been a bad thing.
Here's hoping we get a good episode six. :)

Well I'd call that a good episode 6. Hamtaro reference! This was just as cool as I've heard, but not as confusing as some would have you believe. I had fun watching this, and didn't leave with any Lain-esque headaches.

It was kinda sad to see him end up all alone after Haru AND his brother's girlfriend left him.
That was a very open ended conclusion. But hey, like Bebop they left us wanting more and went out on top so I guess I can't complain.
Hmmm, well. . .my thoughts are more general. . .I was kinda happy since . . .

. . .Haurko got smacked around and if I got anything from FLCL it's a healthy loathing of her and characters like her. So seeing her get pasted with a guitar after 5 episodes of her grating on my nerves was sorta a blessing. As to why he ends up alone, I think it's more a metaphor of growing up--eventually you have to quit blaming people for your life, quit relying on people to give your life meaning and make it happen for yourself.
In this, it was a HELL of a lot easier to suss out than Evangelion.
In all, I liked it more than I thought I would (the music especially) even though I can't put it at "Bebop" level, because there'll always be some ambivalence. . .they HAD to do another "manga-panel" thing after all. . .

From an e-mail I recently received: "Privatizing Social Security" If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00.
