Alright, there's this girl that I'm pretty interested in and she's turning 15... I don't know her REAL well, but she likes the romantic kind of stuff. We talk a lot and I'm pretty sure she's interested in me too, just by the way we talk and everything. I know you guys probly don't care cause we're just a couple of teenagers, but I could really use the help... THANKS!

What's your cash-flow situation, apart from that suggested by your pseudonym (i.e. that you're a poor-boy right now)?

(Not that you should be considering expensive or extravagant gifts at this stage, IMHO, but it helps to know what your limitations are when making suggestions.)

Dude, at 17 and 15 years old, you shouldn't even be thinking about spending cash. This is where the lovingly put-together, nicely decorated "thinking of you and our songs" Mix CD is made, and given with a birthday card or something.

I have enough money, but I dont wanna go blowing like over $50... I mean I don't even know what I would buy her with that much money. To answer your question, cash isn't that big of a problem

spf is on the right track, particularly if you two aren't officially a couple yet. Go simple. Play off some interest of hers (a favorite band, a hobby, something you know about her) and give her something related to it that shows you've been paying attention.

If you want to spend a little and go romantic, flowers are always nice, but roses would be overkill (and often expensive). I've gone with daisies in the past in similar circumstances, with good results. Don't go overboard in spending -- you might need some of that cash if she responds positively and you start dating heavily.

Alright, well do you think I should get her something that will let her know that I like her or just a present you would give a friend? If I went with the CD idea I wouldnt know what music to put on it, I mean sure I could throw some music on a CD but I want it to mean something more than some good music. Any ideas what music to put on the CD...?

That depends. Do you want her to know (right now) that you really (like|adore|want to mount) her, or do you want to keep things roughly the same for now and see what happens?

Well me and her have been this way for quite a while, all talk and no action. So yeah I think I'd like to see it move up to the next level... So something more meaningful than a CD?

By the way... my birthday is about 2 weeks after hers and she keeps telling me she knows what she's getting me in this flirty kind of way. I can't screw this up...

If you've known her for any length of time there are likely songs that have some sort of special meaning to you two as an inside thing. It can be something you two have found humorous, something that reminds you of a situation you were in, anything of that ilk.

If you're going to buy something, don't go serious. Get things that will make her laugh, stuff that isn't serious or heavy or anything. And for the love of Bob don't get flowers.

Damn dude, at your age you would be a fool if you spend over $20...

And if I recall correctly, just about everything girls say at that age sounds flirty...

The CD's perfect, especially if you put some work into it. The effort will be appreciated more than the money, if she is at all worth it.

Does she have a favorite hobby?

The CD would be a good idea, especially if it showed thought.

I agree with skipping roses, but make sure that you know of any kind of flower that she dislikes so you can avoid sending those to her. My wife doesn't like carnations, so I avoid them; the first time I gave her flowers I scored points because there were no carnations. I didn't know that she didn't like them, I was just lucky there were none, but luck counts.

I just have a random bit of general advice.

When you're lacking a singular standout idea in a situation like this, you may want to bundle several non-stellar options together in a collection of smaller presents. That way, you have a better chance of her liking at least one of the things you got of out a collection, instead of putting all of your hopes into one present. I know that doesn't help much for an idea's sake, but it's a safe option to consider.

Here's one- never rule out buying something artsy or impractical. It offers the same vibe as the flowers, but won't be dead and smelling icky in 2 weeks.

If you're completely stumped, give her a story. "I don't want to mention what I was going to give you, in case I find it again in the future, but it was perfect. I had it right in my hands. On the way home, a bum attacked me and threw me to the ground. He stole your present and I went running after him. We fought for 2 hours, and while he got away with the gift, he'll never be the same again." (Here's where you hand her a fake eye.) "I did it all for you." And then mention something about how sore you are from the bum fight and need some "attention", which should segue nicely into that whole "move up to the next level" plan.

I'm sorry. Go with that first stuff though.

You CAN'T be serious. These are TEENAGERS here.

My advice: don't listen to any of us. I'm pretty sure Tha Puerto Rican (wienerboard.com) is still in therapy over the times he sought love advice (wienerboard.com) here. ;-)

How about this...

Don't worry about it. Get her something you think is nice. Treat her like a human being. Don't just slough her off when you aren't interested anymore. Let her go easily when she wants to take off.

Then, a few years later, you might meet up again when your hormonal chemicals aren't swirling around so badly. She'll remember, "Hey, he was good to me back then, maybe I should find out what he's about now." You might not click for good, but at least there'll be someone with good memories of you. There can never be too many of that.

The ghost of a steam train - echoes down my track
It's at the moment bound for nowhere -
just going round and round
Playground kids and creaking swings -
lost laughter in the breeze
I could go on for hours and I probably will -
but I'd sooner put some joy back
In this town called malice

Start listening for clues now. Whatever you get her, make it related to a time when you were "listening." That'll get you a lot more points than what you actually happen to get her.

Dinner. Show her you want to spend time with her, not give her something that she may or may not like. Lunch is less formal, but take her to dinner one night before her birthday, assuming she's got other plans on the day.
