In last night's Patriots-Giants preseason game, something bothered me, more than the Giants losing and SHOCKEY only having one catch. It was the fact that there were 2 Patriots that wore the number 49 on their uniforms. I checked Lindy's Football Annual and there was only one Patriot listed with that number.

Can the Pats do that?

Sure. Why not? It's just an exhibition game that nobody cares about.

Spoken like a true Giants fan whose team looked a little shaky even for the preseason.

I believe it's allowed in preseason due to the roster size before the cutdowns begin. If both 49's made the team one would obviously have to change numbers.

So you think Jake Plummer is the Answer?

I'd be extremely happy for him if he was. I'm extremely happy for anyone who makes it out of the football graveyard that is Arizona. And I'm an Arizona fan. ;(

Of course, if we could just convince... Bidwell (I think?) to leave town, then everything could be happy.

I don't think he is the savior that some of our local media morons make him out to be (hello Woody Paige), but I think he'll be consistent enough to make our offense fun to watch again. Of course you've heard by now that the reason he's sucked for so many years was because he was surrounded by all that suckitude in Arizona. Now he's surrounded by talent, and should he falter he'll have no one else to blame but himself. Fortunately, he has an element to his game that Griese never had--he can run. That alone should do a lot since they were in a lot of 3rd & long situations last season because Griese couldn't run out of the pocket. In addition, Shanahan said recently that Plummer's arm is a lot stronger than he was expecting, so all things considered, I think the offense will do a fine job. All Jake has to do is be consistent and not make silly mistakes.

That being said, the success of the Broncos will hinge upon the defense. We have a very inexperienced secondary, and two out of the four will be first-time starters. The sad thing is that they were mediocre even last season, and losing Tyrone Poole and Denard Walker didn't exactly improve things. What's even sadder is that Rodney freakin' Harrison called Shanahan to see if his services were needed, and Genius Boy completely dropped the ball on that one.

I'm predicting another 9-7 finish and hopefully a wild card berth.

Cool. I'm looking forward to Plummer making my Chiefs D look good for a change.

Making the Chiefs D look good is gonna take some work, and Dexter McCleon ain't the answer.

Seriously though, why didn't they do much in the offseason to improve that (besides Shawn Barber and McCleon?) Were they that tight to the salary cap?

He's a better answer than Stumbling Brian was - Clinton Portis is going to have a huge year and Plummer will be able to work off of that.He also gets to throw to Smith, Sharpe, Lelie and McCaffrey instead of just David Boston.

I'm a little bolder than Broncolanche - I'll say 11-5

I think so yes, they also brought in Vonnie Holliday (DE), and are really high on Mike Maslowski (MLB) and Scott Fugita (Strongside OLB). If Ryan Sims lives up to his first round potential, our D-line should be much improved. We also get the D's leader back, Safety Jerome Woods, from injury.

I think teams are going to stuff 8 guys in the box and let the ancient WR corps try to beat them. I don't have much hope for Portis this year, unless Plummer can pull the most miraculous of turnarounds this season.

UNITED WE STAND

Last night was a fun night to be a Pats fan... Klecko was a FUCKING BEAST. It was so much fun... fumble, INT, fumble, INT... as a guy that loves defense, this is going to be a great year.

I'm psyched.

Hey, this thread's back to talking about the Giants/Pats.

Yeah, Klecko impressed me, also Warren, too. Too bad they play for the Pats instead of the Giants.

As I said before, TO's stuff is all in good fun. There's no harm in pulling out a Sharpie or doing an endzone dance with the SF cheerleaders.
