Probably not. And I apologize in advance because I know this topic comes out, what, every 3 weeks around here.
But I just read this in Edge's latest commentary, and wondered if him getting together with some of the WWE guys isn't the start of something else:
``The Crippler and I had a lunch with contest winners on Saturday, the day of the WWE event in Calgary. They were in for a treat, because another good buddy, by the name of Bret Hart, stopped by. It was awesome to see him, and he's doing great. Bret opened the door for me into WWE, and after reading his article this week in the Calgary Sun, I found out he considers me his prodigy. I wouldn't want to be anyone else's. We actually talked about our career paths and how similar they are. He began his WWE career in the Hart Foundation, and two Tag Team Titles. I basically started mine in E&C, and seven Tag Titles. He went on to win the Intercontinental Title two times. I went on to win it four times. He won the King of the Ring. I too won it, in 2001. He won the WORLD TITLE fives times. I ... still have to do that part, just bear with me.''
Now I know this wasn't the same as `Bret appearing at a WWE event' and that Edge and Benoit weren't considered his enemies or anything. I just wonder if between his Calgary Sun column this week, and Bret showing up at something affiliated with the WWE, in his hometown no less, isn't the first step towards him finally saying goodbye.
Or am I just reading WAAAAY too much into this?

Did you just call Chris Benoit boring?
No, Lance Storm has the boring `gimmick'.
Seriously, what on earth are you talking about? How did Benoit get mixed up in that? Yes, I know he was at the lunch, but......

CB, I think Inverse is kind of confused as to why you brought up Lance's name when he wasn't mentioned anywhere in the article.
But anyway, I still believe one day Bret will appear on WWE TV again. Maybe for his book, maybe to finally say goodbye, maybe at WMXX. Speaking of his book, I don't think it is even done yet. It seemed like it was going to be as long as 'War and Peace', based on early reports.
January 4th 1999 - The day WCW injected itself with 10 gallons of Liquid Anthrax...AKA...The day Hogan "Defeated" Nash to win the WCW title in front of 40,000.
I just re-read the column again. Storm was mentioned earlier as someone else Edge visited while in Calgary. I apologize.....

IMO, you're reading into it too much. Most of the Canadian Clan in WWE have connections to Bret in one form or another. This seemed to be just a case of visiting friends.
I'm pretty certain Bret will make an appearence on WWE programming at some point in the future, the problem that exists now is, Bret wants to do a "goodbye", Vince will only allow if it make him some money i.e. an onscreen angle.
Bit of a stalemate right now but I predict Vince wins and Bret gives in.

I think, if it does happen, they can make it beneficial to both parties.
Bret Hart does his little goodbye speech, say at Mania XX. Hopefully, he does it without any angles or a worked punch to McMahon, just a simple in-ring speech.
This launches the Bret Hart interview in Raw magazine, the Bret Hart segment on Confidential, and the Bret Hart `From The Vault' DVD -- and I'm assuming all three would be big sellers.
The Bret uses the new surge of popularity, and possibily the goodwill he's created with WWE, to launch his new book.
Everybody wins.

I can't remember if the Lunch contest was run through the Calgary Sun, but it might be noteworthy to mention that Bret Hart writes a column for the paper. Not a bad column, really....better than TJ Madigan's stuff, though.
