WWE attributed the low turnout of the Goldberg vs. Triple H press conference for SummerSlam that took place in the Staples Center parking lot two weeks ago to the news breaking on the same day that Saddam Hussein’s sons had been killed.
I seriously hope Vince McMahon doesn't actually believe this, or else his company is in worse shape than we originally thought.
And the next low rating will be the fault of a recent downturn (or upturn) in UFO sightings. Summerslam will have a low buy rate because of magical pixies and fairies.
RantWars runner-up. At least I beat Dave Shilling.
Perhaps the 'press conference' would have had greater attention/local coverage if they held it in the city where SummerSlam is being held this year, instead of the parking lot where they held RAW the night before. Why people in LA would be expected to go out of their way on a Tuesday to attend an event hyping an event in Phoenix is curious, to say the least.

B....but, they had been building the feud for like, a whole week!
Personally I'd say the reason for the low attendance is that anyone who would go along to see 2 guys confirm a fake fight that was all but confirmed on live TV a few nights previous would have to be a smidge simple. I know you get to see them live and all but really, have these folks never heard of house shows?
How long will it be before it becomes Goldberg's fault that he wasn't able to attract lot of people to the presser?
Probably just around the time they find out how SummerSlam did on buyrates...

Considering the decline in house show attendance the past few years, probably not.

Either they're trying to save face or they're really in denial about the decline is business.
I really don't see the point in having a press conference for any event other than WrestleMania. One could argue that they wanted to hype the show because it's a Raw/SD joint ppv, but the only thing hyped was Raw and the Trips/Goldberg match. The entire thing was pointless.
Does anyone remember how much hype there was in the mainstream media for Shamrock vs Ortiz last year? It was the kind of hype that high profile wrestling matches can only dream of getting. No angles, just two guys trashing each other in interviews.
I'm not going to tell any wrestling promoter how to run their business, but if I owned my own company, I might have my writers take a look at why the Shamrock/Ortiz fight gradually snowballed into a big deal.

Exactly. This was the first thing I thought when I'd heard they did a press conference in LA. It's not like it would have been really problematic to hop on the WWE corporate jet for the whopping big one hour flight over to Phoenix. Where the local media probably would have had a reason to be interested in covering it. (Other than forest fires & monsoon storm coverage, news is generally pretty slow in Phoenix in the summer.) I'm sure the radio stations that WWE had been advertising on would have been on board, the TV stations are pretty desperate for much of anything, & I would have dragged my New Times columnist friend. As for "regular people" attendance -- I would have been there!!

Elimination Chamber? What the hell? Oh man, I'm worried about Trips. And I'll be at SS!(If my damned tickets ever come.) Do you guys think the change in this match is anyway attributed HHH's injury? What's that? The Hurricane is entertaining me?
