Take this for what you will, I knew it was early 60's sometime, I just wasn't sure when.
"Greg be working", said the Arab mockingly, as he wiggled his toes above the plumbers...crack. Greg was well aware that his wife was having an affair with this foreign man. But, Greg kept working, as per his probation.

He apparently aged himself up early in his career--he started wrestling at 19, so making himself over 21 would be sensible. Hence the 1962 date in the standard references. But Taker has set the record straight recently--of course, at this end of things, those odd two or three years are something you want to get back. ;-) He was born in 1965.
I was out of town last week, so I'm late, but I wanted to get out my thoughts on Vengeance.
1. Eddie Guerrero d. Chris Benoit: AWESOME match. Crowd was very hot, and it made the match even that much better. Many are complaining about the last 5 minutes being too overbooked, but I enjoyed the hell out of it, and thought this match great from start to finish. I love how Eddie is growing back his mullet. Personally, I would of started the PPV off with the Tag Titles and put this on 5th or 6th, but that's nitpicking. Again, an EXCELLENT match. VIVA EDDIE GUERRERO! VIVA CHRIS BENOIT! VIVA SMACKDOWN!!!
2. Jamie Noble d. Billy Gunn: Eh. Not horrible, but still bad. Tazz made this match enjoyable, because the match itself was not. With his new hair extensions, am I the only one that thinks Gunn looks almost exactly like Stan Lane? Gunn's wrestling is still the shits, though. The ending seemed screwed up. I guess we can look forward to some horrible skits between Noble and Torrie this Thursday. Huzzah!
3. Bradshaw wins the barroom brawl: Well, it was a comedy match, so as long as no one got injured, I'm not complaining. Besides, DOINK WAS THERE!!! YAY!!!!!! All I'll say is that this was 1000000000 times better than the Redneck Triathalon.
4. Benjamin/Haas d. Kidman/Misterio: EXCELLENT match. I'm debating on whether this or the opener was match of the night. Great fast paced action, with WGTT keeping up with the pace tremendously. Just about everything hit, and it resulted in a world-class tag match. VIVA BENJAMIN AND HAAS!
5. Sable d. Stephanie: About 100000 times better than I thought it would be. It was still horrible, though. Another push for Albert. YAY! This company is run by fucking idiots. As for the match; Don't care, don't have to.
6. Undertaker d. Cena: [rant] FUCK YOU UNDERTAKER! YOU RED-NECK, TOBACCO CHEWING, GREASY HAIRED, NO-TALENT, SELFISH, PRIMADONNA, SON OF A FUCKING BITCH! WOULD IT KILL YOU TO PUT OVER JUST ONE PIECE OF TALENT. WHAT? ARE YOU AFRAID TO ADMIT THAT SOMEONE MIGHT BE AS OVER AS YOU? THAT SOMEONE MIGHT BE READY TO STEAL YOUR GODDAMN SPOTLIGHT? TOO FUCKING BAD! STOP WORRYING ABOUT YOUR OLD SHOULD BE RETIRED ASS AND WORRY ABOUT FINALLY GIVING BACK TO THE BUSINESS THAT FUCKING MADE YOU! BURN IN HELL YOU REDNECK PIECE OF SHIT! BURN IN FUCKING HELL!!!! [/rant] Anyway, the match was still pretty good. But the ending sucked! [rant]BURN IN HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/rant] Sorry.
7. Vince McMahon d. Zach Gowen: I'm still trying to figure out who benefited from McMahon going over. Well, Vince writes the show, so I guess he can put himself over, smart booking be damned (don't worry, no rant this time). Okay match. About as much as you could expect from two guys this limited. I LOVE that one-legged asai moonsault. The one-legged vandaminator went awry, as the chair opened up and sliced McMahon's head open, producing a gusher that was SICK SICK SICK! Bad ending, okay match.
8. Kurt Angle d. Brock Lesnar and Big Show: Another excellent match. ME LOVE ANGLE AS CHAMPION! Big Show didn't factor in to this much, which is a good thing. Angle and Lesnar are gods among men. I thought for sure that Show would be the one pinned here, so I was quite suprised and shocked that Lesnar was the one doing the job. It's nice to be suprised once and awhile. Great match. VIVA ANGLE! VIVA LESNAR! Oh, what the hell? VIVA BIG SHOW!
Take this for what you will, I knew it was early 60's sometime, I just wasn't sure when.
About that link, Diesel was born in '59 and Sunny in '72. Now Taker, are you sure he was born in '65? I mean, some guys debut in the business as young as 14 so I don't see why his age would be a problem.

Them: Taker killed Cena's finisher, DAMN HIM TO HELL! Devil's Advocate: So the match would have been better if Cena hadn't gotten to impress us by giving Taker the FU? (Oh, wow, FU - Fuck Undertaker!)
Them: Man Taker just made Cena his bitch the whole match - that no-selling DAMN HIM TO HELL! Devil's Advocate: Because Undertaker must do that "internal bleeding" shtick in ALL his matches - hell, ALL the superstars do that, right? It's nothing special.
1. a kickout, especially with a mocking zombie situp, would have done much more. that was about as bad as when taker did the same after a vertical suplex to angle at fully loaded 2000.
2. well, it's not the best finisher, but still, what about a rope break or something?
3. Internal Bleeding= sure as hell ain't getting pinned. and I don't think people are going to buy a ref stoppage (shammy) or the Hogan-killing bearhug finish anymore.
I don't know a thing about Taker's motives--I'm only guessing. The birthdate comes from his recent tribute magazine--no, he doesn't say it flat out, but he gives enough info to do the math, and 1965 confirms other sources. His age comes up so often in discussions like these that I want to have the facts straight.
He ain't an old man. Hell, he's younger than I am. ;-)
I'm going to throw my two cents into the raging "why was Undertaker/Cena booked the way it was" debate. I think that both Taker's defenders and detractors are missing the story the match was intended to tell....
The match was about the danger of overconfidence, and how it can affect both the rookie and the veteran. When 'Taker did the pull-up pin, the point wasn't that he is so much better than Cena, but that he had made a mistake through over-confidence, a mistake that would cost him. Not the match, in this case, because Cena makes a similar over-confident mistake once he gets control, that costs HIM the match, but one hell of a lot of unnecessary pain.
On the other hand, I will readily concede that they did not take into account how easy it would be to take "Taker is just way better than Cena" as the story of that match. But I really don't believe that was the story they were intending to tell.

I liked the Eddie/Benoit match, except for the slow start. Eddie was hilarious pretending he got hit with the belt...Noble/Gunn was good for what it was. They kept it short, so no complaints (plus Torrie looked FINE)...TWGTT/Rey-Kidman was the best match of the night. Everything seemed to click in that match. Even non-wrestling fans that I was watching this with were impressed by Rey...The Bar Brawl was "eh"- a couple funny spots, but a lot of just standing around. And what did Bradshaw winning the match accomplish?...Taker/Cena- oh boy. I was disappointed to see 'Taker win, but even more disappointed to see him kick out of Cena's finisher. That, to me, was too much...Vince v.s Zach I have no complaints. Too bad half the crowd booed Zach after the match...Steph/Sable was okay for what it was. Pretty much the only positive-I liked the outfit Steph wore :)...The main event was another great match. The sight of Angle and Brock, both bloodied, crawling towards the middle of the ring to each other was awesome. A great PPV.

Yeah, and now poor Kurt's stuck wrestling Funaki on Velocity week after week. Damn that MARK CALLOWAY (I shall now use his real name, to show my smark-ish hatred for him!)
Seriously, guys, this has happened before. Somehow, in spite of all the screaming and pissing and moaning, the Undertaker has failed to ruin the careers of the people he's squashed in high-profile matches.
John Cena's on his way up. The fact that he got a high-profile match against 'Taker shows it. Start whining in a couple of months if Cena's stuck jerking curtains or wrestling dark matches.

Due to my last-second trip to Akron this weekend, I didn't get to see the PPV until today. Some random notes:
1) Eddie is the funniest wrestler they've got on Smackdown. Every little thing he did made me laugh in that match.
2) Billy Gunn really isn't as bad as he's made out to be. His offense is unique. He does a lot of swank little moves. I liked when he opened up the briefcase, saw the "equipment" inside, and immediately shut it. That cracked me up. Nice to see Noble get a PPV victory.
3) The barroom brawl could have been more entertaining. It was good to see Matt and John from TE3 there. Any idea on who the Easter Bunny is? I did like O'Haire beating the people with poolsticks.
4) I hate to admit it, but I am now a Charlie Haas fan. Not as much as I like Shelton, but Charlie is finally in my good graces. He seems to be selling better (although when he was walking away, he didn't sell the match like Shelton did...) and he's entertaining me. Kidman still sucks though. Anytime Rey and Shelton were in there together, I was a happy, happy man.
5) Although this wasn't Steph/Trish from NWO 2001, this still was entertaining as hell. Sable's kicks are super sweet...I think they may be better than Trish's. Steph is always fun to watch in the ring.
6) The Undertaker makes me smile. This guy keeps going and going. He still rules all and still has great matches. I love how people are always bitching about the guy left and right yet he can still just be as awesome as ever. The look on his face after he finally pinned Cena told it all...it was a look of "holy shit, that was close". Cena needs to release an album ASAP!
7) McMahon's blade job was super-sick. It was Taker-esque. At least he didn't bleed into Zack's mouth. The match was fun. Gowan is like a superball hopping around in there. His aerial moves are just pretty to watch. His moonsaults are freaking great.
8) Big Show keeps earning his spot as most-improved wrestler in the WWE with another good showing. Brock is so good it's scary, and Kurt is even better than Brock. Seeing Brock flip in mid air from Kurt's German suplex is BEAUTIFUL. Brock's running powerbomb of the Show was a rewind and replay moment if I've ever seen one. Kurt is the new champ, and that's all right by me.
Just so you know, World Champion Test never even crossed my mind even when he was fighting HHH. Honestly, at that time there's no way that stale piece of toast would make a good champ. He could get his revenge on Steph, but then what? Probably a classic feud with Bull Buchanan? After the Steph business is over, Test has to get himself over as a champion. He'd be more dead in the water than folks say he is now. I could just tell.
I think you're wrong there...
Test was VERY over at the end of 1999. I remember watching the Survivor Series - and with Test hanging out with the McMahon family all night, showing concern for Austin, etc. I figured he was definitely going to be the man to enter the World Title match and take the belt. He was also more than over enough to do so at the time.
Just 2 months later, with no direction or anything following the wedding, he was jobbing his Hardcore Title away to Crash Holly.
Since that time, I agree, he's been a big pile of nothing. Nearly redeemed himself on an episode of RAW where he called the cops on Triple H in retaliation for his wife being stolen, but he was promptly squashed...and perhaps it's for the best he was.

Y'know, I've never EVER been a Test fan. But at that time, even I thought they really should have went with a Test/Triple H blow-off match on a PPV (Armageddon). I still don't know why they didn't. Vince LOVES Test. He's big, has long hair, is a WWF-made creation.
I guess Vince couldn't pass up the oppurtunity to headline the PPV himself.

great, so what now in November Cena will be champ and Vince will need to find his brother so Taker can fall for a rollup? Or wait, how about HIAC at Summerslam? Oh wait, Rock will probably have to come back so he can put Cena over...see a pattern yet?
oh and BTW, since when did picking up the catatonic and the jamslam or whatever the hell he's trying to do make Billy Gunn good?

"Eric Cena". It could work. (:

Billy Gunn's at his best when he's on vacation. Far, far away from my TV and innocent wrestlers for him to injure.

I dunno, I still think Cena would have gotten more winning at the PPV, getting a "you got lucky son!" from Taker, than giving the win back next week instead of vice versa.
True about the Billy thing, but apparently all it takes to be 'improved' these days is someone to bump for you...
I hate to say this folks but Cena has already beaten UT. God wretsling fans have short memories and no it wsasn't clean it was due to interference by the FBI but some people have been saying that it would have beebn a boon for Cena but beat the UT semi-clean well he already did. Yes i know it wasn't on a PPV but how aboiut coming back to this feud later. Stop it u r being harsh on both so the score Cena UT 1-1 not 1-0
Wasn't ECW following Smackdown? So technically Lashley couldn't be there yet, it would give away the plot for the ECW show. Though ofcourse it looks lame when he doesn't show up on 'Friday' yeah.. I bet he will be there on Monday.
