I can't believe my team FSU broke the top 15. With their strength of schedule this year they're going to lose at least three games.

For some reason having Auburn, Michigan, and K-State in the top ten doesn't wash with me.

I can't believe the REAL F.S.U. didn't crack the top 25.

The Sporting News picked Auburn to win the whole she-bang, and had Michigan #4 and Kansas State #7 (I think.)

I'm happy to check out the Pac-10 from the coaches' point-of-view.

1. USC
2. UW
3. Arizona State
4. Oregon State
5. UCLA
6. Washington State
7. Oregon (LOL)
8. Cal

If NCAA 2004 is any indication, then having three Big 12 teams in the top five sounds about right.

As for the rest of it, the Big 10 looks like it'll come down to OSU/Michigan, as it should. Although a lot of that will depend on whether the NC-Double Assholes find something to pin on my man Mo Clarett. Lord knows they're trying their damnest to.

And this is probably Georgia's best chance to win the SEC, which means they'll lose to Florida. Again.

Fresno State has a REALLY tough first three games of the season...

#16 Tennessee
#2 Ohio St---nevermind, they bought out of our game this year due to FEAR!
#1 Oklahoma

I forgot about the OSU buyout, we've got a different OSU game, Oregon State. At least it will be at home, instead of on the road. TSN has Fresno State at number 21, for what its worth. We work out to about 37th in the coaches pre-season poll with 6 games against teams ahead of us. (Tenn, OU, Colorado State, Oregon State, Hawaii and Boise State.) It should be an interesting year for my Bulldoggies.

LET ME HOLLA AT YA PLAYA!

What is really sad is that Arizona St and Washington never meet this year.

But it's OK HuskieFan. Since the Sun Devils will be in the Sugar Bowl, Washington can still go to the Rose Bowl.

If these problems with Clarett amount to anything, Ohio State is going to PLUMMET.

I've got a hunch about Miami, since they're gonna be pissed this year.

All right, I'm enjoying Rhyno's "man-beast" gimmick: He keeps his hair long, wears full-body wrestling tights with a big "R" on the back and uses the "Rhino Gore" as his finishing move. Can't you imagine him watching the Discovery Channel one day while tossing around possible gimmicks and having one of those "Hey, wait a second!" epiphanies during a rhino segment?

To spruce things up, the WWF should give Undertaker and Kane last names -- like Undertaker and Kane O'Brien, the O'Brien Brothers -- just for comedy's sake. Hopefully the door's still open.

RVD is approaching the always-exciting "The crowd loves him, but he's not getting a major push yet" phase which helps makes wrestling so much fun. It only happens once every few years -- Stone Cold in '96, The Rock in '98, Shawn Michaels in '93 and so on. -- ESPN's Bill Simmons back in 2001

This is Maryland's year....mianly because they have to get it done before Miami and Virginia Tech come on board.

As Lee Corso would say..."not so fast, my friend" *points pencil at screen*

Lydell Ross, Clarett's backup had a VERY good freshman year before Mo showed up. He's still a very capable back that could start for half the teams in the top ten. And don't forget, even without Clarett, the offense is returning 10 starters from last year's team. And the defense only lost two player, albeit two REALLY good ones. They'll be fine, IMO.

And the NCAA's hypocrisy rears it's ugly head again. After a summer of letting teams play hopscotch between conferences without uttering a word, they come down with a force investigating Clarett's friendship with LeBron James? Bullshit.

I have no sympathy for Clarett. He keeps bringing added attention to himself. When it comes to the car he has apparently done one of two things.
1. Broken NCAA rules, although I will hold out a shadow of doubt that his parents got him the car, although who was it leased to, not Mr or Mrs Clarett.
2. Committed Insurance Fraud.

Ohio St. needs to take a hard look at Clarett and decide if they want to have this guy around and risk serious sanctions against their program to have a shot at two more national titles.
Or do they cut him off now. He has made it clear that he has no intention of using Ohio St. for anything other than a Pro audition (not that he's the only one) both by his actions and his statements.

Oh, lord in heaven, please let Clarett be eligible for the U-M vs. OSU game. If I am deprived the opportunity to read one of the OSU players shoot of his mouth about how easy Michigan will be, and then get slapped upside their heads at full-strength in the Big House, I will be SORELY disappointed.

That said, it sure seems like the NCAA has got it in for Clarett. Thay poor boy can hardle sneeze without the NCAA examining his Kleenex...

First off, according to a SI.com story, he was test driving the car in question (which isn't an NCAA violation), and he didn't file an insurance claim (which tosses the insurance fraud issue out the window). Filing a false police report is a misdemeanor, but as the article says,

Falsification of a police report is a misdemeanor. A person who filed a false report generally would not be charged for the offense unless it was connected to a more serious crime, such as insurance fraud, he said.

Keeping him out of practice is a good idea. If the NCAA, in it's infinite "wisdom" declares him ineligible, then OSU doesn't have to forfeit any games he would have otherwise played in. Also, holding him out of practice says that a) he's not more important than the team, and b) gets the media circus away from practice.

Or do they cut him off now. He has made it clear that he has no intention of using Ohio St. for anything other than a Pro audition (not that he's the only one) both by his actions and his statements.

There's NO way they cut him. Hell, players have been using OSU as a springboard to the pros for years. Heck, if HALF the players that left early stayed, OSU would have had at least two titles in the 90's. Provided they could have gotten that Michigan monkey off their back. Arrgh.

But we're getting off topic. I think the Sugar Bowl will come down to two games: OSU/Michigan and whoever wins the Big 12. I'll pick OSU and Texas.

Battlezone,
Thanks for the SI link; I didn't know he was test driving the car.
However, Must be a nice test drive program? I've never had a "test drive" where I take the car home, move all my CD's in, park on campus, go work out. I know GM has a bring it home overnight program, but isn't that only on new cars and I think you have to be approved for financing, something most college sophomores don't do.

As for cutting ties with Clarett. Yes many players have used OSU for a springboard to the NFL, however they either played by the rules while they were there or they kept it quiet. Thats why OSU needs to look long and hard at whether or not his guy is worth the headache.

Now in the interest of being fair:

Everybody says every year that Kansas State is so great and I still don't buy it yet. They haven't even won the Big 12 recently have they? And they don't exactly have the hardest schedule most years.

Auburn is a nice team. Usually a winning team, usually in the lower part of the top 25, usually a contender for the SEC West, and they pull up some good upsets over teams like Florida and Georgia but they've never been a legitimate national championship contender and I don't think they are this year either.

Georgia's best year to win the SEC was probably last year, and they did. They're still the favorite this year, but Tennessee will be better and they'll probably lose to Florida again. If Auburn really is as good as people say then that's 3 conference games they could possibly lose but i'd still put my money on them winning the SEC.

A look at some potential problems for Top 10 teams:

Oklahoma: Tough conference, go to Tuscaloosa non-conference (and they almost screwed up at home against them last year), and they have a QB who can't stay healthy. Will have at least 1 loss.

Ohio State: Putting the Clarett problems aside, they played with fire all of last season and didn't get burned. At some point, the law of averages kicks in.

Miami: Well, their back in reload mode. Should be battling for the national title.

Texas: Until they beat Oklahoma, I won't take them seriously. And, Simms being replaced will prove more difficult than assumed.

Kansas State: They'll find a way to screw up at least 1 game.

Auburn: Open against Southern Cal and play in the SEC. A two loss season would still be very good.

Michigan: Best defensive player might be in jail when the season starts. Get Notre Dame and Ohio State in the Big House, but haven't been invicible at home in recent years.

USC: Open at Auburn, and have to replace Palmer. I still have no faith in Pete Carroll.

Georgia: When your in the same division as Florida and Tennessee, its probable you'll stub your toe at some point.

Virginia Tech: I don't know why, but for some reason I think this is the season Virginia Tech really hits a wall.

Teams outside the Top 10 that might make Top 5 appearances this season:

Florida: They had everything break bad for them early last season. Could be dangerous in the underdog role.

Notre Dame: Tough schedule, but second year of the Willingham offense, and if Jones returns, they'll actually have a running game this season.

Oklahoma State: They've proven the past few years that they can knock off an Oklahoma or Nebraska, and might be able to build upon that.
